You, sir, name? wrote:Dynatron is arguably some of the best stuff to emerge from the synthwave/retro 80s electro-genre (which is sadly otherwise mostly overrun with unoriginal Kavinsky-clones).

Some samples:

Unquestionable Judgement
73 Million Horsepower

Really solid, thanks. I'll usually just have a giant random YouTube playlist of those Kavinsky clones playing during work hours, so it'd be nice to mix it up a bit.

My favourite band is They Might Be Giants. (I see they've been mentioned before in this thread, but not since 2008.)

Alternative rock / "geek rock".

Song you've probably heard of:Some highlights:Some personal favourites:
But of course I like too much of their stuff to list everything here...

Between the Buried and Me is a nice progressive metal group, I think (I would classify them in hardcore metal though, unlike Tool for instance). Two titles I like are Sun of Nothing and Extremophile Elite

Frank Ocean. His music mixes so many genres - you dance, you get in a dark mood, you smile. His lyrics are so deep and interesting - every song paints an amazing picture. I also love his collaboration with Calvin Harris and Migos, "Slide." I really think that's going to be the song of the summer!

I'm a big fan of this Norwegian DJ, Kygo- his newer stuff isn't so great but some of his old songs are amazing.

If I may make my debut post, after years of absence, with proclamation of my favorite band The Dears.

They're a Canadian indie-pop/rock band with a style attributed to The Smiths.

A great song to get a taste is "To Hold and Have"

Maroon 5. Their song One More Night makes me pleased about sexy bad relationships. Adam Levine or however you spell his name is hotness-hotness. And he often sings about dysfunctional relationships or breakups. I love Maroon 5.

Asking Alexandria! Since Danny's back, their work is worth attention again.

I'm really surprised that Wintergatan hasn't been mentioned in here yet.

i would say Marcus Warner. He creates an amazing orchestral-synth-electronic blend that can be listened to for hours on end. Currently one of the most under-rated artists I know of. I would specifically recommend Homeward: as one of his best songs, but it's a hard cut to make. Give this guy some love, he deserves it!

I love Girlfriend is Better.

And yes, Stop Making Sense is wonderful.

David Byrne's book How Music Works has detailed passages explaining the concept of that show, it sounds like it was a lot of fun to come up with and perform.

Well have you all heard of this old, small-time european named Beethoven? Even he never heard of his music.

Jokes aside, if you like instrumental and atmospheric sorts of music as well as the lyrical stuff I strongly recommend Daniel Wentz. The sort of blend of electronic, symphonic and rock styles he writes probably influences my own songs as much as the actual bands I listen to.
If you look for him on soundcloud he's got a mix of music he's written for videogames or other projects, songs that didn't quite make the cut for those projects, stuff he's written on his own time and remixes of some of his old game tracks.
The best-known game he worked on is probably Red Faction Guerilla (although he wasn't the only composer).
Ship's cat, MPSV Iberia
Beware my original music which you can find on and other places besides!

So I discovered Aviators earlier this year (through a collaboration he did with Miracle of Sound, if I recall correctly), and I've been listening to a lot of his stuff recently, so i'm going to go ahead and recommend him here.

A few of what I believe are his better songs:
