2141: "UI vs UX"

Postby leeharveyosmond » Wed Apr 24, 2019 10:40 pm UTC

Image

Alt-text: "U[unprintable glyph]: The elements a higher power uses to bend that moral arc. U[even more unprintable glyph]: The higher power's overall experience bending that moral arc."

Yes, well, not forgetting U-2: the UI being encountered by the user, as photographed from 70,000ft overhead

Also, U2 is responsible for loading screens.

(That is, keeping the user from getting bored before the program finds what it's looking for.)

I'm interested in the cardinality of unprintability; why is the second glyph more unprintable than the first?

They only had a very small quantity of the special unprintable ink?

this should be the official spelling of english's offical new second-person plural

Hm...

Printable: A glyph used in 3-dimensional space, meant to attach to a 2-dimensional surface.

Unprintable: A glyph in 4-space, meant to attach to a 3-dimensional "surface". (Could possibly be printed with a 3-d printer, but not printed in the 2-d comic.)

E-M-Unprintable: A glyph in 5-space, meant to attach to a 4-dimensional "surface".

(Disclaimer: Not a topologist. No idea if the above makes sense to people whose knowledge of higher-dimensional spaces goes beyond Klein-bottle jokes.)

Quite amusing - not the comic as such, but the mouse over text...

The higher power, in the context of the comic, is Randall... and so he is discussing himself.

I am guessing here, but (in the name of friendly geekishness).... are you sure you don't mean ordinality?

I will note the arc of the final U is long but bends left.

The first requires an infinite number of brush strokes. The second requires an uncountably infinite number of brush strokes.

A perfectly unfunny option, User Engagement (UE) was forgotten. Shame shame.

Since many businesses really do mix psychology and marketing together, I'm starting to think we need to make UZ-design an official term.

Business as usual for startups. "People don't want to buy a quarter-inch drill. They want a quarter-inch hole!"
Maslow's Hierarchy of Startups theoretically gets us to U⍺, though I doubt that a new wave of re-branded professionals would do this better than our existing range of spiritual leaders and career counselors.

U2 is responsible for forcing unwanted data on the User and taking up drive space.

I thought the default unprintable glyph is . The even more unprintable glyph should then be that in another diamond, or box.
It's cooler up here.

Perhaps you've all got it wrong. The first unprintable glyph is "cocksucker" and the even more unprintable glyph is 'motherfucker'
