"Strip Games" Discussion

Postby SocialSceneRepairman » Mon Feb 01, 2010 5:07 am UTC

Behold my apathetic merging skills: The following 20 posts or so will not make much sense, but whatevs ~~Falstaff

Nice QC ref.

All right folks, who's gonna be the one to start strip Iterated Prisoner's Dilemma? How about me, Western Mass. (42, -72) geohash, next Saturday at four?

EDIT: DAMMIT. I thought I checked before I hit the button. All right, everybody outta the thread! (Also, added coordinates for geohash.)

That equation really doesn't make any sense. At least, not in relation to those n values given. I'll bet we see a correction soon.

Shouldn't that fraction be inverted?

I was quite amused with the Poohsticks reference as well, haha.

I wanted to check Risk, but then I figured it would be skewed by all the non-game google hits.

Surely that fraction is upside-down...

I had the same thought with Go...

Snakes and Ladders: 2.5%
Candyland: 0.02%

Comparing "'Mousetrap' game" and "'strip mousetrap' game" to try to get a reasonable comparison: 0.0015%

According to the formula, the value will always be greater than 1 -- the hits for "$game" will generally be a strict superset of the hits for "strip $game". If there are no hits for "strip $game", this will result in division by zero. I think the formula is inverted.

It may be fixed later; I've saved the original as proof.

n=0 would mean iterated prisoner's delimma doesn't exist but it's strip variant is a non-zero value?

shouldn't the fraction be flipped...

otherwise, LOVE THE ALT TEXT!

edit: scratch that last part, it's already been said. Wow you guys are fast!

shouldn't it be strip games divided by games? "poker" has more results than "strip poker"

This comic is, of course, like all the others based on Google results, going to quickly skew itself from sites linking to it.

Also, "Strip Magic: The Gathering" doesn't sound like it could be THAT rare. I know some people I could envision playing it. Or would the rules be hard to work out? I've never actually played Magic.

The only thing I could think of while reading this was:

"He is about to divide by zero, isn't he?"

Seems like iterated prisoner's dilemma would be pretty easy to set up, though you'd probably run out of clothes pretty fast.

Yeah, seems like the fraction got inverted somewhere along the line. Otherwise, great strip. Or, you know, comic.

I've never personally played strip Magic: The Gathering, but I wouldn't be terribly averse  .

Calvinball: 1.07%.

That qualifies as "frequent" :D

EDIT: This seems to be caused by two things:
a) "comic strip" is closely associated. No duh.
b) Somehow, "full strip calvinball" is part of a long string of spam keywords that many spam sites have copied (judging from the results). I have no idea how this happened, but I like to think someone at Obscene Spam, Inc. got bored.

And how would Strip Conway's Game of Life work?

I thought that was inspired by a QC strip, although I don't remember exactly what happened, just that someone made a comment that it would be hard to...um...something. Play? Understand? Remain clothed throughout? I don't know. I don't care enough to check. Fuggit.

Anywayyy...strip Iterated Prisoner's Dilemma sounds more than workable...it depends on the rules, though. This was my first thought:

c/c: Lose one article.
c/d: Remain fully clothed.
d/c: Remove all clothing, eliminated.
d/d: Lose three articles, or two if three remaining. (If one or two, eliminated.)

But that doesn't really work now that I think about it because you lose the iterative aspect...um...hmm. I'll be back when I've given this much more thought than it deserves.

This reminds me of the other day when the President was making his State of the Union address--I was talking about how there should be a drinking game based on it. Everyone takes a drink whenever he says certain buzzwords/phrases like "healthcare", "energy", "the state of the Union is strong"...

I think the alt-text's War Games reference makes the comic, but I also lol'd at the Conway's Game of Life reference. How exactly would that work. Perhaps you could run a simulation with ten odd different colours. Each player would bet a piece of clothing on the survival of a particular colour. Each time your colour became extinct, you remove a piece of clothing?
