Argghougame set match and SHUT UP

Postby Angua » Mon Jun 22, 2009 6:18 pm UTC

(For those of you wondering, Argghougooou! is what it shows up as on my BBC News Rss feed)

Apparently the tennis players are beginning to get a bit too loud with their grunting

I must say, I used to find all the noises a bit funny, but I guess that 101db is getting a bit loud.

It's not often that I allow an entirely description-free title to remain, but... well, I had fun here today.

Why doesn't every tennis player do it then?

I haven't followed tennis in a while, but when I did Monica Seles used to drive me nuts with all of her noise. I couldn't stand watching her and would usually just change the channel if one of her matches came on.

Hehe, I remember that I once heard a tennis match from another room in the house.

It went something like "*THWOCK!* *squeak* Ungh! *THWOCK!* EYAGH!" I thought someone was watching some sort of bizarre porno. :)

Yeah, well, it's obviously some sort of mating thing. Tennis is just an elaborate form of sock fetishism, anyway.

All the officials and spectators need to get over it. A sport is about the players. If we got rid of officials, sports media, spectators, coaches, and owners we would still have the players getting together in an abandoned lot.

I just watched some youtube videos of her playing.

I mean, there's the 'let off aggression' sound, but this one is louder than quite a lot of porngasms. Completely unnecessary.
Anything I said pre-2014 that you want to quote me on, just run it past me to check I still agree with myself.

I've heard that the reason they do it is to disguise the sound of the ball hitting the strings, but I'm not sure if that's correct. Whatever the reason, it's freaking annoying and I can't stand to watch matches with players who do this.

You might, but it gives them advantages to their game both physically and mentally. There might also be something to swinging your arms and exhaling. Point is, even I do it when I'm playing handball. Sometimes I'm not even aware I started doing it.

Quite frankly, bitching about an athlete making noise makes you a douchebag. I don't even care if it's golf and the guy is yelling, "get the fuck outta here" as he swings.

Would anyone complain about a football player making noise? And yes, doing this makes them better players, its not just for attention or to be annoying.

Punching your opponent in the face also gives you an advantage both physically and mentally, but it is still not allowed.

Shrieking like that disctracts your opponent and make it impossible for him to hear the sound of the ball hitting the strings. Both are unfair.

And yes, there is a definite physical advantage to exhaling while exerting yourself. And this may be accompanied by some sound. But the women make earsplitting shrieks that last for several seconds. That's a totally different animal.

Mores the pity, it might actually be worth watching if they did that.
