The OP's premise is a case of hindsight is 20/20. Generally speaking the more knowledge you have the better you are. This also implies greater wealth and less privation, since your experience means survival is less a function of random, uncontrollable events. And we have a lot of knowledge at this point. If we didn't the population couldn't be as large as it is. How good this is for the race generally speaking is unknown. If we have squandered too many resources today and have left tomorrow short, then your moral position today is the same as a parent who spends the rent money on drugs. And you can't know. As for your question, ask yourself at 60, you will know then.
