Alt-text: STUDENTS ARE CALLING PRESIDENT JOHNSON EN MASSE TO PROTEST THE BOMBING AND IT'S JAMMED THE WHITE HOUSE SWITCHBOARD. COULD THEY COLLAPSE OUR CRITICAL PHONE SYSTEMS? HAS THE FIRST TELEPHONE WAR BEGUN? STAY TUNED FOR MORE ON THIS DANGEROUS NEW TECHNOLOGY.

Eh, hit and miss lately. But I'm okay with that, because Randy's aware of it and doesn't need to be told a gazillion more times, guys.

How would you get a list of IPs and phonenumbers only?

Seriously, maybe IPs and a few other details, but only phone numbers? Does that include only landlines? Because I bet the total would be like 5 numbers, everyone has VOIP/mobile these days, maaaaannnn

Um... isn't the point of Anonymous that it's a constantly rotating membership? People who participate in one raid might not participate in or even support others, just as long as enough people show up for it to be noticeable? What, has he put up a list of everyone who's ever posted to /b/? Seems like you could just run down /b/ - of course, if you don't mind getting a cache full of cartoon (...mostly cartoon...) kiddie porn.

None of the IPs in this range are Wikileaks. Four of them redirect to login pages for something to do with Salesforce.com.

Here's the code I used to find this out:

Code: Select all

>>> import socket
>>> for i in range(1,255):
...     print socket.gethostbyaddr('184.50.42.'+str(i) )

All the output points to 184-50-42-*.deploy.akamaitechnologies.com, where * == i. Akamai is a content provider network and has a ton of different clients—not sure if Wikileaks is one though.

Anonymous is clearly a group of hypocrites. Although, I guess you could say that they can be secretive because it doesn't matter who they are, while the things wiki leaks reports on are.

I figured it was something like that, given the bogus data returned by whatever query the website did. It's kinda hilarious that it can't detect a lack of information.

Numbers in IP addresses are limited to 0-255, so no.

Unless it's one of those fake IP addresses seen in a Sandra Bullock movie.

I thought Randall was addressing this, which I only heard about yesterday. Though, I could be behind the times, I guess.

Either way, I think Randall is just pointing out 1) their hypocrisy, and 2) that this ultimately doesn't work. People have tried this before with the dialing of land lines to overload them so no one could get through. Not sure if the alt text is true or not, though.
