0672: "Suggestions"

Alt-Text: An hour later: SUGGESTION: LICK HER NIPPLE MORE.

First: I was just thinking about how useless (and creepy) that feature is earlier today... So, Randall, get out of my head.
Second: I had time to refresh the forums multiple times, and then type out the alt-text by hand before posting this! I'm surprised nobody beat me.

Oh man, the Title text made me bust out laughing. I haven't laughed heartily at one of these in quite a while. Good show Randall.

Great commic.

I thought I'd missed a day since I'm rarely up late enough on a work day to catch a new strip. I was like, where'd this come from?

It does this? I wonder if it'll make a few such suggestions for me... potentially awkward. :-/

Yeah, these are useless. There's a reason why I "haven't talked to such-and-such in a while". It's because I have nothing to talk to them about.

Seriously it is a pretty creepy feature.

It told me to "reconnect" with my mother once. I talk to her every day, so stfu Facebook.

I don't know how accurate those screenshots are (college humor), but it looks like people are encouraged to try interacting with people who don't use Facebook much. A bit of a conflict of interest I think.

Reading between the lines, I get the impression the Facebook popularity is dropping. The software has no way of knowing when you stop interacting through Facebook and interact in the "real world" instead (as a few people have mentioned).

Disclaimer: I don't use Facebook. I did create a Myspace page for a specific purpose, but haven't touched it in over a year (could be deleted by now). I think from a technical point of view, Facebook is better: they actually use encryption for logging in. I think their HTML is better too.

Myspace: 63 errors, 20 warnings.
Facebook: 40 errors (0 warnings)

To be fair, it appears Myspace has more content on the opening page.
Though, the famously simple Google has 42 errors, 2 warnings. One of those 2 warnings: "Using experimental feature: HTML5 Conformance Checker."
Did you get the number on that truck?

Its telling me to reconnect with my freshman year RA. Hmm... I don't really intend to lock myself out of my room again, and besides getting him to let me into my room, I never really associated with him.
Great, now facebook has me thinking I am a bad 'friend' (read aquantance).

Is it me, or is the profile picture a frame from a previous comic about "not taking responsibility for someone else's happiness"?

EDIT:http://www.xkcd.com/383/ Maybe?

That feature can be somewhat... disturbing sometimes. Recently, it started telling me to add the girl I had a huge crush on all thorough middle school as a friend, since we had so much in common. Ah well, I suppose the feature could be handy if you want to catch up with someone you haven't seen in a while.

Facebook has utterly creep'd me out before the whole "You should reconnect with so-and-so" schtick.

Facebook has consistently recommended that I friend a girl that I haven't seen in years, who knows no-one that I know (is friended by no-one I know either,) lives halfway across the country (and has never lived near me,) and shares almost nothing in the way of interests with me. I met her on one of my travels, and got invited out her way (Dallas, TX) later. I proceeded to get scorned as only someone from the Northeast can, and we just never spoke after that (had no reason to.) Hell, I even used a different email address back then.

So how the hell did Facebook figure out that we had some sort of connection?

Creepy...

I was expecting it to be computer savvy girl (Is that megan? Or BHgirl?) working hack-magic to get the guy to say hi. But that would be not just creepy, but kinda cute, which is totally not their play style.

Yeah, I hear that. Some people I see on there I have no interest in getting in touch with again.

But I still consider them my friends. :)

But others you would like to get in touch with, but you know you shouldn't.

I consider them my enemies.

Only half joking!

I get buzzed to reconnect more with peeps I have friended as a formality, but I know are those that only log in every 6 months or so to accept new friend requests, read birthday greetings from 3 months back, then move on. One guy I'm being told to go find him a profile picture because his is blank.

Facebook has been telling me to add (an account that claims to be) David Bowie as a friend for months now. I'm not really sure why.

I decided about a year or two ago (3?) to quit facebook. I had my account deactivated but they make it very very hard for you to get RID of your account completely. They just wont DELETE you without a longer process.

Then about 4 months ago I got an email that I had reactivated my account. Apparently all that you need to do to reactivate an account is to know the email address it was started with. That's it. No password. No nothing. So someone (or creepier, Facebook) reactivated an account I had tried to kill years ago.

And they could do it to you. Ever had a Facebook account? Someone know your email address? Guess what... Black Hat guy is going to reactivate it for you.

And yes. I now read it. F*ckers.
