Oh man, this one was truly epic. I wasn't even expecting a joke, so that was an added bonus.

I really hope this comes out in poster form at some point.

Pure awesomeness. When will the poster edition be available?

Absolutely outstanding. I have no other words than that.

And I'm with Previous Poster- a Wheel of Time chart would be a fun mess. I tried sketching out book 1 from memory and it's not too complicated.... Once people start learning to Travel, however, things'll get messy.

Awesome!!
I regret the use of the movie version for LOTR, but it's ok. It must have been already difficukt enough to do.

Like someone said, a chart like this for Wheel of Time would be ... ... Even better. I would worship someone with enough crazyness to do it.

Oh, and the Primer graph needs MANY more repeating loops near the middle end.

LOTR, Jurrassic Park and 12 Angry Men were all something else before they were movies, but LOTR is the only part you choose to complain about?

So fucking awesome.

I'd love to see one of LOST, including the flashbacks. That would be hell to make though.

No, it's showing when Elrond brings Aragorn his sword.

I registered there just to say I'd buy this as a poster in a heartbeat, and I want more of them! More!

Back to the future was a good suggestion.

Ie, I just now created an account here to post this closer to the source, possibly increasing the chance that Randall will see it and fix it.

Hooookay,

now I have to go and get that "Primer" movie. It doesn't seem to be avaulable on the European mainland, so I'll have to order from the UK, which means I'll pay twice the price.

... but thanks for pointing me to it!

Also: The hobbits meet Aragorn in Bree, at the Prancing Pony. Quite some time before the weathertop incident. This is both in the book and in the movie. This is as far as I managed to follow the plot lines thoroughly, so cheers for the effort! And yes, a poster would be appreciated! Just go over it before and remove any mistakes pointed out by some OCD LOtR fanatics in this thread... (like me?)
Speaking of which: You could alo do a poster comparing Book and Movie (normal/extended version?) ... if you have nothing to do, that is. Which you don't, I assume...

Cheers,
Zak

People moaning that the LOTR timeline is from the films not the book:

If you care so much, dig out your copy of the LOTR and construct your own timeline from the dates given in the appendices.

And my ax.

I would love to do one of these charts myself. The only two I would consider would be the entire Back To The Future saga (as someone already mentioned), and The Prestige.

The Prestige would be way more awesome, but full of spoilers, and agreeing with it depends on your interpretation of the film.

Actual spoiler here for the Prestige:
Spoiler:
The Prestige would just have one line splitting into two and ending over and over again; 'twould be interesting indeed.

While it is an awesome comic that obviously took a long time, I take issue with the LotR and Jurrasic Park Movies being graphed over the books.

This is all.

At the beginning of the movie wasn't Gollum still chilling with Sauron?

Re: LOTR - I think it's a testament to the Jackson films that a similar chart for the Tolkien novel wouldn't be all that different. In fact, looking at the films on this level make them seem like an incredibly faithful adaptation. In the novel you wouldn't have the blip where Arwen intersects with Frodo at the Ford of Bruinen, the lines for Saruman and Wormtongue would extend a lot further, and you would need a whole other line for Bill the Pony (who is acknowledged in the Extended Edition at the entrance to Moria). But most of the changes in the adaptation aren't discernible in Randall's chart.

Also, I want a print. It would go well with my maps.

I would have preferred it if you used the original book LoTR plot as source. But it's well done nonetheless.

Heh, Primer. Never seen, but already heard some scary stories about it. 12 Angry Men only got a ? from me, though. I'll have to look on IMDB.

Esoto wrote:I think there are two obvious (okay, maybe not so obvious since people missed them) reasons on why the first chart is from the LOTR movie and not the LOTR book.

1. The comics is called "Movie Narrative Charts".
2. The rest of the charts are also from movies. It would be weird if there was a book before all the actual movies, plus Randall would have to rename the comic (see reason 1).

Unless Randall decided to leave the LOTR book in there anyway hoping people would think it is a movie but only the more observant ones would notice it is about the book, which would be cool, except then he would be tricking (reason 2) and lying (reason 1) to us!!

and I don't think Randall would read the entire LOTR book when he can just watch the film. Although he may have read/seen them before, he'd still need a refresh.

I watched Primer, too.

Seriously, did anyone understand the plot? I've got a headache now and I think... yes, I'm bleeding out of my ears. And my handwriting is all screwed up. (No change there)

Brilliant movie though.

Magnificent, truly... the LOTR one is mind-blowing, a lot of time obviously, well done.

Can I just make one ~tiny~ suggestion? Argumentatively, shouldn't Obi-Wan's line continue like a dash or something as 'obi-wans ghost' that continues on to the end? But i guess then you'd have to make 'ghost lines' for all of them... question is, would this make it more or less awesome...

But seriously dude you rule, that's stellar work!

The chart left out Sam getting the ring. This irked me.
