This isn't quite accurate for me. I have to get out of bed and move the two feet to the desk where my laptop is before I can check up on my friends all around the world.

I think I want a laptop now.

On the other hand, I might never get to sleep with that next to my bed...

GET OUT OF MY HEAD! I'm under the covers on my laptop as we speak!

I would post pics, but you probably don't want to see them...

I like how tiny this comic is. It's very efficient.

That's just inefficient. You totally need to rectify that situation.

I have my laptop on the opposite side of the room from my bed, right next to the alarm. I've probably smacked it once or twice trying to get the alarm off...

1)Get under the covers
2)catch up on the lives of friends around the world
3)goto sleep

A couple weeks ago my roomate and I started racing each other in mariokart on our DSs when we both woke up and were still laying around in our (respective) beds.

I've fallen asleep with the laptop, only to be awakened by either the noise of the fans, struggling for air, or by the ow-hot-burny-burny that tends to build up when one covers a lappy with a blanket.

Also, hello xkcd's fora! :]

I'm not supposed to use the Internet whilst in bed. I have occasionally watched DVDs (stargate...) on my laptop from bed though.

But isn't this becoming like going out into the world only to have something to write about in one's dear diary? Except that now it isn't diary, speaking to an anonymous future reader, but rather whoever's in your social network at the moment.

Should I twitter about wanting to go to pee, or should I pee first and express my experiences? Hmmm... maybe I should blog about the dilemma.

Yeah, it's surprising how fast you can adapt to a lack of sleep.

I mean, you never adapt completely, but you get used to the hallucinations eventually.

I have a chair sitting next to my bed. On the chair, my Macbook. On the plus side, the chair is a plastic one with a pattern of holes in the seat, so the laptop stays relatively well-ventilated. And yes, my daily routine starts with me struggling to open my eyes, hit snooze on my alarm (which is actually located away from my bed in a misguided attempt to prevent me using snooze too much), and doing a quick check of things on the computer (mostly the state of my torrents, which I leave running overnight). Then at night, more computer until much too late, and collapsing into bed (which I am conveniently already in).

Are there any xkcd comics that are a smaller size than this one? 336px × 197px is really good.

My laptop is too big for that to be in any way comfortable. Which probably goes against the entire idea of a "laptop".

Idea- touchscreen monitor connected to pc that can be moved around... possibly wireless

That used to happen all the time to me. One of my parents would stumble in, glare at me, and say "don't you know what time it is?"

Then I moved to the basement, and that stopped happening, except on rare, rare occasions. ("Michael? You're up at 7? ...oh.")

Of course, now that I'm off at college, it doesn't happen anymore...although my roommate gets annoyed occasionally.

I now have an EEE PC that I can comfortably use in bed, but it's usually easier to VNC from my Palm to my desktop and check on torrents, the overnight email, etc.

And a PDA is a lot easier to use in the loo than balancing a laptop, even a little one like a 1000H!

so according to my calculations i am within 10 feet of either my desktop or my laptop 99.8% of the time. I have my laptop in what has been dubbed my "nerd bag" which i carry with me at all times. From the time i leave my dorm in the morning till the time i come home at night. MY desktop which is always on is moderately reachable from my bed however i usually use my laptop.
