EDIT: AW DAMMIT don't tell me this is going to get deleted just for broken links just because they didn't revert the autocorrect yet!?

Yesssss! I was always rooting for Hat Guy.
I also liked the noise the sub made; it reminded me of an old Calvin and Hobbes cartoon.

Not to pick, but was "you took my hat" supposed to be in there twice? The second instance makes sense, the first one .. ?

This one disappointed me a bit, especially after the awesomeness of Journal 2, but if this sets it up for Journal 4 or some kind of continuing storyline, I'll be more than happy. However, despite my disappointment, I love how he pops up in a Russian sub while she's ice skating, since ice skating is usually done on ponds or lakes. Awesome...

I doubt it, due to the fact that Elaine no longer wears a ponytail (see here). Although she did as the series started in #2, second panel, she apparently discarded it during her training and wears her hair loose by the end. The girl in this comic wears a ponytail, and I doubt Elaine would have reverted to her old hairstyle.

...Or maybe I'm overthinking this.

Either Black Hat Guy has a submarine in a lake, or the girls are skating in the arctic, and I don't think the arctic has many trees.

He's gone to quite some lengths, I'd say...

Yesss! Win. I was always rooting for Hat Guy.
Also, I think that might be Elaine Roberts. She's certainly the type to have friends who do nothing but defeat other people and ruin their souls. I wonder what she'll get up to once she realizes that sub's computer systems are still active and hooked up to missile launchers.

When I saw the title, long before the comic really showed up, I almost knew what was going to happen - except I didn't predict a stolen submarine, Elaine and that they didn't kiss.

Whoa, I *loved* it! Classhole becomes a kind of entity with the first instance, with no need for balloons or skis: the universe says "You took my hat"! He wins! And I've put a lot of exclamation marks here! I can't stop saying how I loved this comic!

The hat stealer is in cahoots with Elaine Roberts, what can this mean? I wonder if this will lead to a Classhole vs. Elaine face off - who will win? Coding, katanas and rocking out vs. sheer determined remorseless bastardism.

I can see this turning into a fantastic back-and-forth between the two of them, seeking to Mario each other in ever more spectacularly classholish ways. Unfortunately, I can't think of a decent ending for them, as the only options I can think of are (a) mutual destruction, and (b) finally deciding to team up and/or make out, both of which would, in my view, weaken both characters. Of course, I'm no Randall, so I look forward to seeing what he does. I'm sure, no matter what, we haven't seen the last of this woman.

(P.S. the URL stuff-ups were part of the April Fool's joke, so that whenever you typed xkcd it got turned into Questionable Content, even as part of a URL.)

It's funny as hell, but I was sort of hoping that he wasn't going to get it back from her. The idea of the Black Hat being like the Red Hood or the Green Lantern Ring or the mantle of Dread Pirate Roberts was pretty damned sexy.

Oh boy. Now it's an entire series. I predict this growing into an epic saga wherein they engage in encounters of escalating intensity, each 1-upping each other with each meeting while at the same time increasing their mutual attraction that neither will admit, for to do so would be to concede to the other, and they are both too proud for that; Duel after duel culminating in a final confrontation that will finally destroy them both, but in their final moments they will realize their feelings for each other, and will die in peace, as equals.

...Or maybe this is the last one that Randall's going to do. I dunno. I lost the planchette to my Ouija board the last time I moved.

Controversy? It just means that the url for "comic #404" takes the user to a 404 error. What could be simpler than that?

Edit: hang on... we should really be posting in the other thread - it being created earlier, and having more replies.

BHM is too useful to the comic to just roll over and die. Besides, epic rivalries are always better than dropped plot threads. I just hope further iterations of the thread focus more on oneupmanship than the actual hat. Hat-swapping is dull. Escalating classholishness to see who more deserves the title is awesome.

I read it like that Family Guy episode where Stewie "marries" Olivia, then comes back home early one day and finds her with another guy. They're playing silly putty, and Stewie says, very slowly, "Is. That. The silly putty. I gave you. This weekend?"

I guess it's pretty much what you said, but I'm on a Family Guy overdose lately so everything references to it. Good comic.

Who says that the comic is contemporaneous? Why couldn't the "blond" be the future Mrs. Roberts. At some point there had to be a Mr. Roberts.
