I think it's because newspapers in BttF are magic. Like how they update when the timeline changes even though the time traveler doesn't.

Likewise Marty's newspaper shows him (and the audience) the story that's most important to him on the front page.
The thing about recursion problems is that they tend to contain other recursion problems.

Because the only usefully (meta-)stable continuum is one in which that particular information (of all the potential information) is conveyed?

Though "Oh, Nixon's seeking another term" is hardly going to be groundbreaking (after the fourth, after the third, obviously happened) by then it would be like the UK under Maggie Thatcher, half a dozen years later, practically a whole generation of voters hadn't really known any other Conservative Party leader or PM, until she suddenly wasn't either and they had to start getting used to references to the PM using male pronouns!

Given how tied-up the town is, I'm surprised at the relative prominence of the factory news. Either the 'free press' would have been quashed to downplay this unpopular thing, or the marvellous opportunity, spun as a good thing ("Jobs! Jobs! Jobs!", pesky health studies and such news having been suppressed), would be heralded to high.

Well, just that the universe runs on a sort of sci-f quantum logic:
  1. The newspaper displays the most interesting story on the front page, because that's the logical thing to do.
  2. The most interesting issues for Marty are (respectively) Doc's status, then Hill valleys fate, and the presidency.
  3. Everybody gets the same paper (when on the same day from the same publisher)
Because of quantum, we can compound any two of those, but not all three. So each of the below are true, but all of the below are false.
A & B The front page stories are the things most interesting to Marty.
A & C The front page is the most interesting thing to the aggregate of everyone.
B & C What's most interesting for Marty isn't what's most interesting to the aggregate of everyone.
The thing about recursion problems is that they tend to contain other recursion problems.
