Title Text: Platonic solids for my real friends and real solids for my platonic friends!

At a wedding I attended when I was about three, I was very disappointed to get a glass of orange squash instead of a piece of toast at the relevant point in the proceedings.

Not sure I've quite got the hang of this yet.

This one works even better in British English:

Ladybirds for my real friends, and real birds for my lady friends!
Generation Y. I don't remember the First Gulf War, but do remember floppy disks.

There is a ladybird crawling up the wall 2 feet from me right now. If anybody wants it, just let me know, we get them crawling out of the light fittings in this office, it's not like there's a shortage.

If anyone wants to offer me a bird, please choose one that eats insects like ladybirds and is trained to leave droppings outside.

Assuming the first panel is a common toast, I've never come across it. I clearly need to attend more weddings.

Makes me wonder why my real friends seem more complex than my imaginary friends.

I don't think there are any that eat insects like ladybirds. If you want one that eats insects like birds, you might have more luck ;)

This would make a fun (and mostly nonsensical) random toast generator. Problem is, I can't seem to find a list of separated compound words.

Sextants for my real friends,
And real tents for my sex friends!

Apparently, it is "a toast dating to at least the nineteenth century".

Not quite on topic, but a quick surf reveals:

'A true story about Rev. Spooner when he was at a dinner at Oxford: He was proposing a toast to begin the evening which was supposed to say, "Let us raise our glasses and toast the dear Queen (Victoria)." What Spooner actually said was, "Let us glase our asses and toast the queer dean." '

I'm sure I read recently that the Royal Navy has dropped (or is under pressure to) one of its long-standing wardroom toasts:

Toast: "Wives and Sweethearts!"
Muttered response: "May they never meet!"
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Note to self #1: At wedding, distribute champagne glass shaped pieces of toast.
Note to self #2: Find bride who will tolerate #1
Note to self #3: Notes to self do not need to be posted publicly.
Note to self #4: Bride must also tolerate impulse to make publish notes to self.

It's all a matter of how you perceive them. Our perceptions add an imaginary component to our real friends, making the relationship complex.
