Yay, AotC, and with Sustainabilizer! Awesome installment, Jose. I take it you've done a bit of sailing in your Tim. :)

I had a feeling that post would Pope me. Let's see, a decree:

Discuss an Outside hobby or endeavor of yours that we may or may not know about.
OR a hobby or endeavor you would like to take up in the future.
Or something you used to do, but you don't anymore.

When I was young I was a voracious reader. Somehow in college I lost the habit. I got it back for a while some years after college, but now I hardly ever read. It really bothers me, but I always seem to have too much work to do. I really should do something about that.

ETA some formatting.

My hobby is gardening in pots.
Often, very large pots.

Unlike pets, plants can be ignored or neglected for days.
Unlike pets, plants often respond to neglect by Blooming.

For decree, my history with reading is a similar one to Laura Mae June Bug's. However, while reflecting some time ago (well preceding the latest, topically related - not RELATED! - most recent othercomic), I realized that in fact I still do read a whole lot. It's just that my reading time that once was fully devoted to paper-based media (there was nothing else, effectively) has been mostly taken over by various offerings on the Internet, of which the OTA's works, the OTT and a few otherthreads on the forum are only a part.

One other thing I used to do before the dual time-grabbers called University (which has been replaced by a succession of FFSes) and the Internet entered my life: collecting and superdetailing car models in H0 (1/87) scale. In fact I still collect them, it's just the superdetailing of my acquisitions that has been put on hold indefinitely.

In the spoiler is what I regard as one of my best efforts in that field:
Spoiler:
Image

For reference, the way it came from the manufacturer looked like this except for the different main body color.

That particular model is currently boxed up at my parents' place, but to demonstrate the size of those models, here on the palm of my hand is one I bought more recently which is in the same scale and has practically the same size:
Image
(On the other hand - pun not intended, but certainly not avoided either -, over the years, the general level of detailing done by the manufacturers of this kind of models has become much more refined. The model on my hand has a lot of detailing like chrome strips, badges etc. done by the manufacturer that I had to paint on myself on the older model and others of its time.)

ETA: In other news, on the weekend I visited an old friend who has moved to a town with a very RELATED name:
Spoiler:
Image

The coat of arms of the town shows an also very RELATED molpy in triplicate:
Image

In fact, the next village has a name which is even more RELATED:

(Otterberg translates as "otter mountain" or "otter hill", Otterbach as "otter river (small)".

I've been on a friend's sailboat, but I'm hardly a sailor. But I think little bits of detail help the film crew figure out how to shoot the thing, and if I can save a day of production and a day in the editing room, that's a million dollars right there. And then I take all the money I saved, put it in the bank, and use it to finance the film in the first place. Clever, no?

I dot know.

I do know sailing is hard work and a bit on the dangerous side.
I started sailing a 12 foot boat when I was 12.

When I was 36, I sailed a 36 foot boat.
I'm too old to sail any boat, now.

Maybe not a hobby but I recently bought myself the new Fitbit smartwatch, upgrading from my olllld original Pebble. It's pretty good but doesn't yet have an OTC-themed watchface like the Pebble does. I may have to put some work into fixing that. Anyhow the 'kinda hobby' thing is that I've been putting a lot more Time into exercising lately. Todip I did a Run for an entire Shortpix! And I got back Inside before the weather became a bit Zanclean, which is molpish.

I got a version that fits that description, so yes (I think). I remember noticing how large those numbers were and wishing they could be a lot smaller.

Eternal Density wrote: (OTT:2650:0) […] Do you like books of fiction? […]

I read all the Harry Potter books. They're the only "officially published with an ISBN and everything" fiction books I've read in the last 20 years. Given the choice between fiction and non-, I prefer the latter because it seems more relevant. Nevertheless I don't find time to read nonfiction books either. I've also read a lot of non-ISBN-tagged fiction online (mostly thanks to the OTT).
The best thing about books is that you can skip around, which is particularly good for finding the answers to questions that the author seems to have decided to put somewhere near the end. For that reason I didn't start Homestuck until its author claimed to have finished the series. I treat fiction books like textbooks — about half of the exercises have answers if you turn to the back.
The second best thing about books is that you can skip around, for finding a bit you knew in advance you were interested in. Finding the context for a Shakespeare quote is a typical example. I don't do that often with fiction, but it's happened.
Also of note, in Homestuck after about the first 10,000 words of dialogue, I created a tool to auto-convert the dialogue to remove the l33t-sp34k encoding. For that reason I would not have read Homestuck in printed form. (After another 10,000 words of dialogue I simply started skipping all the dialogue, and I don't think I missed much.)

Oh, I'm so sorry. Have you not been feeding her enough nails? Sometimes, if a car doesn't get enough nails in its diet, it has to scrounge around for them.

A brake caliper is the thing that squeezes the other thing to make the car stop. The other thing is a brake pad, and it's made of asbestos. Blowing on them isn't a good idea, since that blows asbestos dust around.

So glad you have True Blue too.

Or, the call of the Outside is strong. Hot day today. Good day to sit in the pool. But I played flight simulator. (I use it to keep my instrument skills sharp, or in this case, to knock some rust off of them).

I should have done this last year but I needed to set up an old computer that had a joystick port and could run my old program, and all my old machines have something wrong with them. But I finally buckled down and got to work.

1: I couldn't find the old program to install. I have the empty box (I put all my computer disks in one place, but not that place, and I don't know where that place is any more.)

2: I got an old machine up and running, but discovered it didn't have a joystick port.

3: I couldn't find my joystick for quite a while. It wasn't where I thought it was, so I looked in all the other places, only to find that it was exactly where I thought it was, and I just didn't look hard enough. ("Hard enough" amounted to simply looking in the right direction and recognizing it. It was right there.)

4: The joystick didn't have a joystick output; it had a USB output. I could have done this on my present machine a long Tim ago.

5: My present machine dual boots Linux and Windows 8. Windows 8 is kind of broken (beyond the broken that it starts out as), but the more important issue is {see #1}.

6: Linux has a lot of free stuff. I wonder if it has an open source flight simulator. Of course it does. So I downloaded it, and though it took a bit of Tim to get used to, I'm using it now and it fits the bill. Newer versions are available; perhaps one of them will show vertical track too, but for now this is fine.

So.... who do you trust more with a Mighty Engine - me, or First Cleric?

No, I meant that I was hoping they could be drawn in a smaller font, so that they take up less space on the screen. And indeed, that seems to be what you have done, based on the image accompanying your comments. I imagine that you changed the 25 in "pygame.font.SysFont("xkcd,sans", 25)" to some smaller number ("smaller" referring to arithmetic value this time).
My alternative solution was to add a line right before line 88:

Code: Select all

        self.fsmall = pygame.font.SysFont("xkcd,sans", 12)

and down around line 663, change "self.screen.blit(self.font.render(…" to "self.screen.blit(self.fsmall.render(…". This makes the debag text smaller without affecting any of the other text.

Hi guys, ED, I liked your spoilers, I haven't read anything else in the last four NewPages, but I'm sure there's a lot of treeish and wingish content that I'll be able to see when I reach it on my blitz.
I decided being in the present made blitzing the far past more difficult, so I've been reading on b's mirror, I just stopped in to give a public service announcement: Incredibles 2 may trigger seizures in sufferers of photosensitive epilepsy. There’s a fight scene in a room full of patterned strobes, and in the darkened theater there will be no steady-state light source to provide refuge for your eyes. The scene is only a small slice of the movie but it’s enough to absolutely ruin your day if flashing lights can hurt you.

Welcome, itaibn, Revealer the Recent! Take a chair and make yourself comfortable. (I see, ucim already prepared the comfy chair for you.)

Yes, the Time comic is over, but our discussion about it is not. And as ucim pointed out there are more stories in the spirit of Time. One of which, BSTA, is currently ONGoing. Yes, it's different from Time, but it keeps up the spirit of Time as a slowly evolving, very elaborate and very confusing story which needs the collaboration of this thread to understand it. (Awesomeful, balthasar_s! I guess we shouldn't eat the cassette. And it's a treeish lamp.)
