buffygirl wrote:Hello my molpies!

As some of you know, my mathematician father died last month. Among other things, he worked directly with Kerr, Schild, and Penrose.

So I have a question. If I found a handful of books that look like they originally belonged to Arthur Sullivan Gale (strangely, these are German textbooks that were re-bound in the 1970's), are there people who would find that cool? It looks like he (Arthur Sullivan Gale) penciled his name into the blank pages of the front matter of these books, i.e. these books apparently belonged to Gale once.

Note that I have been able to identify some of my dad's other ancient books via Amazon, bookfinder.com, or abe.com. And I know that I can contact university math departments and other places.

But I really wanted to get a knee jerk reaction from my mathematics friends here.

LURVE YOU ALL!! MWAH!!

Hello, yes, German mathematician here. For full disclosure, though, I should admit that I actually haven't been seriously working in that field ever since I got my degree and left university. As such, yes, I do find those books kind of cool but not to such an extent that I would make any significant effort to acquire them. If I'd find them, for example, in a flea market I would be willing to spend a few Euros on them, especially to save them from getting dumped, but that is about as far as I'd go, quite honestly.

Speaking as one OTTer who has recently lost a parent to another: all the molpishest, and stay strong.

Edit: Oh, poped. Decree: Appreciate your loved ones. There will come a Tim when one of you isn't there anymore.

Also, happy ten thousand, addams!

Hello. It's been a long time since I started (and eventually stalled) reading through this thread. Mostly just want to say hello to ED in a less ephemeral medium than LRR twitch chat. I've seen a few of your comments scroll by over the past year or two (mostly on VOD replays, sadly).

With how slow the OTT has gotten, perhaps I can finally keep up with the present, but the archive, and thus all of the culture and jargon still seems like a near impenetrable wall that would take years to progress through at the level of time I would be willing to in it these days.

Welcome, Uristqwerty, Revealer the Recent!

A lot of our culture and jargon (which we call "OTTish") is documented in the XKCD Time Wiki. The OTTsford Molpish Dictionary is also highly recommended.

It's one thing to read through a list of jargon, or even watch a record of it slowly developing, but I suspect that to really internalize it takes practice over an extended period of use. Also, I have posted here before, it was just... 2018-11-25 13:57:33 UTC minus 2013-11-16 22:39:21 UTC... Over 5 years ago‽ And apparently stuck around for less than two months, definitely never making it anywhere close to reading through everything at the time.

Hello again Uristqwerty!

The Winter has returned here. Some days sleet, some days snow, some days merely freezing temperatures. I go to my FFS before sunrise and leave it after dark; I'm hoping to see the sun again on Christmas. It's nice to come back here sometimes and cozy up.

And that was the belated ONG of, by now, the latest-but-one phys frame. I did notice yesterdip that the botcastle, or at least its connection to the Internet, was down, but I don't know if it had been down for long enough to provide an excuse for our collective delay in ONGing the frames...

Here is the current phys frame:

Hi, urisqwerty! Nice to see you again! Pull up a chair and stay a while.

I'm currently in a place where, like taixzo, winter has started; at the moment, the ground is covered in snow. Tomorrow I fly home to a place that should be free of snow, and hopefully also of smoke.

Just wanted to pop in and wish everyone a belated Happy Thanksgiving, or, if more relevant, a happy 19th of Visitation, Ja! I wanted to let you all know that I continue to be very thankful for this thread, and for all of you. This is a beautiful place.

Edited to fix typo.

No snowpeople. There wasn't enough snow to make snow people, there was just enough to make the roads a mess. The shuttle ride to the airport was exciting at times. :| i did want to go and stomp around in the snow, since I dont see snow very often, but the snow started around 10 PMH and we had to leave at 7 AMH. It looked pretty, though.

Dear addams,

congratulations on 10000 posts!

When I thought about a RELATED (and affordable) present for you, I stumbled upon a castle, for sale at 1 EUR.

ImageImage
(click for seaish versions)

Here are some more pictures.

It's one of Germany's most baobabish castles, and it has been visited by at least two OTTers.

Ah – sorry! It has been sold already – to a company that belongs to the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony. They want to make sure that the castle will remain open for the public. Okay, next Time you visit Germany, I can take you there.

Molpish wishes,
Peter

Also, welcome forward, Uristqwerty! :)

The castle, of course, is a protected historic landmark, so owning it comes with a whole set of obligations. Above all, it badly needs restoration with an estimated cost of 27 million Euros. So don't think you've missed a bargain. :?

No, that's not how it works.
You're in panic mode now.
Decisions like this one will not work in this state.

Good luck, my blitzing friends!

That is quite some panic mode!

Actually, that's about how I feel about this concert I have coming up. There's one really hard piece that is killing me. (Not literally.) (Not yet, anyway.) EE:EE:EE!!

ETA Wow, no posts at all since I wrote this. :( Where did everybody go? I guess it is getting to the holidays. I have excessive amounts of Outside coming up.

I think "Excessive Amounts of Outside" was the name of VHF's reunion album and tour.

You helped Addams stay in her home, and gave her a better life. She thanks you, and so do I.

Hello everyone, it's like a tree to see so many of you!

The other dip I found (or the youtube algorithm found for me) a molpish video story about someone searching for a long lost friend, which I'd like to share cos it feels relevant to OTTerness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVlZMOB-Sq0

Uristqwerty wrote:Hello.

Hello Uristqwerty! You're lucky to have seen me, cos I don't comment live in a lot of Twitch vids. Though when I do I do tend to be talkative. I was the 5th most prolific chatter in Desert Bus this yip!

I had an idea for a hotdog but I don't know when I'll have time to cook it because I need to finish off writing my fiction and I keep getting distracted from doing that.

Wait for it.

So todip my sister broke our moving castle because she didn't coma enough and tried to molpy down while driving.
Happily she's fine. If there wasn't a guard rail, she wouldn't be. Now the guard rail needs replacing.

Spoiler:
Oops I made a video about being two yips cancer free, a handfull of mips ago, but I never uploaded it.

Google gave me results for snow on ham hill, and snow peas with ham, when I searched for snow ham.

Wow, ED, you must have posted that as I was editing my post!

Sorry to hear about your sister, and very glad that she's ok. That's scary.

Two yips cancer-free, yay! It's been 8 yips for me. Although now I hear that the things I got to replace the things that were removed due to cancer, can also cause cancer. That is really really really unmolpish.

Wow, you did post that as I edited two more lines into my post!
I wasn't expecting anyone to be active right now cos there's only been a page since I last ketchupped.

:( unmolpishness. But these days most things seem to cause cancer one way or another :( We have to live on and not worry about it too much. Though I can't always help that.

[edit] 5555th post! So glad I noticed that before closing the tab.

I hope to keep having Excessive Amounts of Outside, especially the WFFS part. Current condition: hopeful, and accepting of thoughts, prayers, job leads, etc. Last weekend the Wolpies joined many similar wolpies and their families in a parade. 'Twas rainy, but fun.
