Quick heads up that I'm planning on putting Wheel of Time 3 in signups soon, hopefully at the end of the week. Game probably won't start until Meta Mafia is over.

As mentioned before, I plan on making this partially PyP. Players will be able to pick their Ajah colour (I'll summarise what that means in the sign up instructions). I also will want everybody to submit an optional secondary win condition. I haven't decided whether players will get their own submitted condition or somebody else's yet. Feedback is welcome.

I like the idea of randomizing the secondary win conditions better.

Yes, players should not be creating win-cons for themselves.

Yeah, I've been toying with a similar mechanism to what Madge did with her impromptu mafia game with the roles, so where some players may get their own, but then again, may not. I'll also balance them so that nobody is unfairly penalised/benefiting regardless of which method I choose.

Actually, that's not entirely unthematic from Wheel of Time, IIRC. Don't cats get on really well with Aes Sedai, and dogs hate them? Or am I getting it the wrong way around? It's been a while since I finished reading the series...

@fb- that's the nice thing about having such cruddy meta that no one wanted to pick me

Meta Mafia

Spoiler:
I'm pretty much at the point where I can say whatever the heck I want because either someone slips and votes town (seems more likely than not mpolo) and we try to speedlynch him, or I get lynched and LG and jimbob have two more chances, hopefully with more town cred (although I'm not as sure about LG).

I think you should write one secondary win condition yourself, and throw one submission out (Madge did something close in Impromptu), so that no one can be sure that theirs will be in the game. I think I made this suggestion for the last couple Secret Santas as well.

So I’ve been trying to think of a good secondary win con most of the evening. Ok, not entirely true. :? I’ve been trying to think up something that would cause maximum annoyance to Sabrar, either directly or indirectly. :P Examples:

1. You win if you outlive Sabrar. Do what you can to eliminate him early and often.
2. Your goal is to sit back and enjoy the show. You win if you have the lowest post count every day.
3. Your goal is to combat the content overload of recent games. You win if there are less than 120 posts each game day.

Ok, I thought about it, and regrettably, #2 and #3 are very bad ideas. Soooo jimbob, you should definitely not accept any submissions that encourage lurking and/or discourage posting. I shall be submitting #1. 8-)

Indecisive jester. Your goal is to be lynched on an odd numbered day or night killed on an even numbered night!

Big deal, I'll just submit a Guardian Angel for myself. :)
And someone should submit a Prophet whose goal is to predict when I will die, if ever.
In fact let's make the whole game about me me me... I've got some great ideas:
- you win if Sabrar finds you the most townie player two days in a row
- you win if you manage to be the focus of Sabrar's D1 or D2 tunnel but don't get lynched until D4

LET'S DO THIS!!!

Haha. I like the suggestions coming in. How about this one:

You win if you have more posts than Sabrar when one of you dies.

Or:

You win if Sabrar has the fewest posts of any player by the end of the game. For added difficulty, you may never vote for him or target him with a killing power.

(By the way, as much as I hate to spoil the fun, I won't be accepting win conditions that reference a specific player, such versions will have the player randomly selected).

I wonder who scum are going to kill tonight. Standard play dictates confirmed town, but they might be scared enough of BoomFrog and willing to let Madge vote for mpolo.

Spoiler:
Oops, I thought I posted this last night. I guess I was distracted trying to think of ways to annoy Sabrar. :P

LaserGuy’s QT notes wrote: I am disappointed that wam never sent me an orange. I had EPIC plans for that. Would have been comedy gold.
Missing out on this is the second most tragic thing to happen in this game. :( The first is that I didn’t get to use most of the flavor I had planned for Sabrar, which were some of the few bits I had written up in advance. I thought up an awesome exit, but it wouldn’t have worked for the pre-teens in the D2 OP, I could only have used it if Sabrar was killed N2 or later.

You silly silly man. Your gifts are that you have two children that want you. What else (besides a dog) do you need? :)

Spoiler:
I'm really annoyed that this hadn't occurred to me last night. There's a small chance
if town don't hammer of swinging the lynch at the last minute. For that to work, it'd require two townies to be asleep without votes down on the leading wagon, approaching deadline. This isn't going to happen, I feel, sadly: mpolo, wam and Madge may all be awake and online close enough that we wouldn't be able to pull it off.

Hi all. I've been on vacation for a while, and I'll be back in time for next game. I'm starting to doubt if I have time for Mafia, especially based on Meta Mafia and how dismally I played. Next year they don't have computers in school, so that makes it worse. Do you guys have any tips for playing Mafia if you don't have much time? Also, this is off topic, but where should I advertise a different forum game? I think you guys (mafia players) would be interested in it and able to bring it back to life.

The best way to save time on mafia is never ever reread. Just post and talk about what your current reads are, even if they are all gut reads. Point out things you find interesting about others post immediately. Don't try to keep anything hidden. This makes it harder to play as scum, but real easy to play as town (and unless you are freezeblade you will most often be town.) Although, since everything is gut reads, it doesn't take too much skill to hide your scummy decisions as scum, but it is hard to fake the care free attitude. Don't worry about keeping secrets as town until you are a more experienced player. And don't worry about being super careful. Sometimes the best thing a town player can do is make a carefree mistake.

As for other forums games, an advertisement post in this thread shouldn't bother anyone. We've recruited from other sections of the forum before, turnabout is fair play.

As this might cause some confusion with some people - Red Ajah is not a valid choice for this game, as this will be set in the Salidar rebel Aes Sedai group, which had no reds in it. If you have any questions about the flavour, I'm happy to explain them here, rather than via PM.

Mark, usually we spoiler anything even remotely related to a current game, like your comment that you believe you played dismally, which you didn’t. I think you played an excellent game, and I will write up my feedback for you and all the other players after the game is over. I would really like to see you become a regular member of our group. You don’t need to play every game. If school is an issue, than during the school year you can pick the smaller games, or the games with simple setups, until you gain more experience and develop the playstyle that is right for you. I am the worst player to give advice on how to manage your time. I am a wall-of-text player. I’ll spend hours composing a post. When I’m playing, I think about this game all the time and can’t turn it off. All attempts to alter my meta into a less time consuming playstyle have met with failure (but I may need to make another attempt at it if I’m going to continue to play here). So I occasionally need to skip playing a game when my real life is busy (as I am now, modding Meta Mafia instead of playing). But others in this group spend much less time each day playing, maybe they can give you some advice (like BoomFrog’s excellent advice a few posts above this one). And always feel free to ask any questions.
