Does that imply you think anyone not voting for you isn't scum?

Unvote

M almost certainly stands for Moriarty; the criminal mastermind behind most of the crimes in the novels. Mycroft is in the novels as well, but is a relatively minor character.

Ah. That's interesting. I'd forgotten about him.

Yes I would say that would make sense.

Now... what meaning does he have....

Hey guys,

Due to delayed and missed flights, transits and running around airports in three different countries in the next 24 hours, I might be unable to post for the next 36-48.
I apologize and will be posting regularly after that.

You'd forgotten about Moriarty? Well, that's a bit surprising.

Besides the omission of 'Holmes' in the title, it's suggestive that we all received an email, which would be mildly anachronistic if we're in the original canon. In the TV series Sherlock, Mycroft regularly sends texts to Sherlock, which he signs with 'M'.

I don't watch the TV series and it's been a while since the books.

I won't be able to post Fri-Sun, but I can post today. So some rolespecs and ideas:

- 3 mafia. 4 possible but unlikely. Wouldn't be surprised to see a godfather
- 2 independent, 3 possible. I'd guess SK and jester, maybe a survivor
- remainder town. probably a cop, a doctor, and a vig. Although I wouldn't be too shocked if we didn't have any investigative roles and had to rely on scumtells and giving the box to the right people.

So something along the lines of 8/2/3 sounds most reasonable to me.

Hey stubbs, funny that the first game we get to play together is here :)

Stubbs was in the last game I modded over at Mafiascum.

@dim: are 2 indies common round here? Your setup spec sort looks like a generic description of what 13p games look like within the boundaries of the roles the mod gave.

Mafia kill and a SK would make for a real quick game.

And I despise jesters.

Jesters are horrid, 3 scum + sk out of 13 is ridiculously scumsided unless town has some serious PR's.

moody, why did you start box-voting but not normal voting? And if you had to box-vote someone at the moment, wouldn't it be yourself?

You should have seen us in Worst Roles Mafia. My only Mafia partner was himself a jester. That was horrid.

Anyways, I'd suppose voting for yourself for the green box only makes you seem untrustworthy.

I have nothing to go on so far. Awaiting more players.

a. I figure that box-voting would be less offensive than lynch voting, and it being early D1 I don't have any strong scum feelings yet.

b. Since this is my first time with voting for something other than lynch, it didn't occur to me to vote myself the box. It also seems a little gauche.

Worst Role games are good fun.

I'd think voting for yourself to get the box is quite reasonable. If anything, it's untrust-ing, rather than -worthy, which is sort of my default setting as town.

Hm actually you make a good point. I got accustomed to play non-vanilla games that I assume there are a few cool town PRs. But at the same time 2 mafia in my opinion would be too weak for the exact same reason. So I'd rather assume something like 8/1/1/3 and be more cautious than less mafia or SK and be proven wrong.

You'd be surprised. With 2 anti-town kills each night, EV's tilt away from town really quickly. I guess we'll find out eventually. Do you guys announce LyLo?

Do you guys reckon the setup note about a possible non-cult recruitment role means anything? Does wam like leaving red herrings like that?

My first game here had 3 mafia, 1 SK, an indie role with a one-shot suicide day kill and a mod that could ignore one action every night, with 11 players. Town won.
Although that's a bit unfair; the mod and the aforementioned indie role had the express intent of having everyone die (or reach a 1v1 situation with two kills involved) and town did have a Doctor (whom we lynched :( ), Cop, Roleblocker and Vig.

serrapaladin wrote: Do you guys announce LyLo?

Sometimes.
Will LYLO/MYLO be announced?

serrapaladin wrote:Do you guys reckon the setup note about a possible non-cult recruitment role means anything? Does wam like leaving red herrings like that?

Mason Recruiter is included on the list.

Anyway, because we're all having fun on the speculation:
2 Mafia (at least one with an additional power - I think that's implied by the setup anyway)
At least one indie, no more than two (probably SK, maybe a Survivor too)
Two to three VTs.
Some combination of town power roles. Cop and Doctor almost certainly feature, the rest might be more unusual.

Anyway, no reason not to do this.

There's a guy after my own heart.

Lord SK would also work as a recruitment role.

Doc/cop would make sense, as could Moriarty as some sort of Godfather (or lord SK?). What sort of a mod is wam? How guessable do his setups tend to be?

@mod: can you confirm whether the source for this game is actually the BBC series?

Everyone that hasn't seen the series should really take a few hours out of their life and WATCH IT! (am I allowed to post links?... I hope so :|)

Anyone want to talk about bouer's little bit of denying the antecedent and unvote?

bouer joke votes, dimochka OMGUS's, bouer immediately unvotes, yet dimochka's vote still stands. Is this a serious allegation, or just forgetfulness?

I'd hardly say dim's OMGUS looks serious, but his lack of further interaction with bouer is interesting. He seems to completely disregard bouer's unvote and doesn't respond to his little fallacy-quip. He obviously continued reading, as he responded to me, so why no response to bouer?

I'm new to the mafia subforum, this is only my second game. No history with any of the players. I was just joke voting and unless Dimochka says something to the contrary I'll just assume he is too.

I might as well
Box Vote: Bouer
for now.

If I had to guess setup I'd say that there is probably 0 or 1 indies, and a large mafia with M as the godfather. This is purely based on flavour, in the sherlock universe it is hinted that virtually all crimes are controlled by Moriarty.

dim, you aren't, perchance, scumbuddies with bouer, are you? This didn't really go on for long enough to be conclusive, but early banter between two people abruptly stopping is a decent connective tell. I'm still not quite willing to let this go.

Do scum have a QuickTopic or something for daytalk?

I'm considering how we should do the box thing. Self-voting is of course silly; surely it's implied you'd always also vote for yourself. As soon as people start to form some reads, we should at the very least discourage self-votes (perhaps until a decent number of people are also voting you). I'm not even sure how much sense it makes to keep both votes running at the same time. If anything, I think it might be distracting to be discussing both sets of votes simultaneously, plus ranking people by towniness gives scum a lovely hit-list. And then there might be people that wouldn't even want the box. I could imagine us doing some sort of self-nomination plurality vote at the end of the day, but I need to give this some thought when I'm not falling asleep.

Vote USN

green voting for yourself is essentially anti town because scum can coordinate and we cannot.

I think we should discuss which power from the box should be used (on whom) if someone gets it. That reduces its utility to scum, because we can check in the next day whether the right item is missing.
