Sherlock Mafia - Game over - someone wins!

Postby wam » Wed Aug 14, 2013 6:22 pm UTC

Standard Rules
Spoiler:
1. Do not talk about the game outside this thread. Apart from a properly labeled spoiler in the discussion thread.
2. DO NOT TALK ABOUT THE GAME OUTSIDE THIS THREAD. Apart from a properly lablelled spoiler in the discussion thread.
3. Please stay on topic.
4. Don't lurk through the whole game; if you need to drop out, TELL ME.
5. If you aren't part of the game, please do not post in the thread
6. Once it is nighttime, do not post in the thread
7. If you die, don't say anything for the rest of the game except a simple, "Bah, you got me," which reveals no information.
8. You may not post verbatim or quote from your role PM. Paraphrasing is fine.
9. You may not edit your posts. This is to preempt the possibility of cheating by sending messages to other people and then editing them out.
10. You must play to your current win condition
11. All Pms must be sent to both mods, (wam and Suzaku)

Game Specific Rules
Spoiler:
1. The deadline applies even if the mod is not online to call it.
2. If at any point a player receives a majority of votes, then the day ends, however, you may keep posting till a mod calls it, however, any votes, unvotes or actions submitted after this will not be counted.
3. This is a semi-open setup. You can ask questions to the mod; you may not get an answer though.
4. All votes should be made by posting on a new line, IN BOLD. For example,
VOTE: wam
5. You must post an Unvote before you can make a new vote. For example,
UNVOTE
VOTE: tim

6. If you have questions, either post them IN BOLD in this thread, or PM me.
7. You may only communicate with other players by PM if I have specifically said you can do so.
9. Players cannot target themselves.
10. At the start of each day phase I will reveal the alignment and power of all people killed
11. If votes are tied at a deadline it will be a no lynch
12.NO cryptography under any circumstances!!
13. 3 days without posting gets you a warning, 2 more days and you will be modkilled or replaced with no regard to balance. If you get 3 warnings your modkilled or replaced.

Setup notes

Spoiler:
- There is no cult, other recruiting roles maybe present
- There is at least one vanilla town
- There are strong anti mass claim mechanics in place. Those of you who have played my games before or played games with me, know my dislike of mass claiming, so go on try it I dare you!
- Sanity of any role is not guaranteed
- The Town win condition is " You win when all threats to the town are defeated"
- There will be a second set of votals (in green) this will decide who at the end of each day will get the box. Inside the box there are the following.
-

1 Shot watcher
1 Shot Tracker
1 Shot Cop A
1 Shot Cop B
1 Shot Cop C
1 Shot misfiring Pistol*
1 Shot Role Cop**

Cops A-C are Insane, sane and random (the sanities have been pre determined at random).

* Only has a 50% chance of killing the target, has a 5% chance of killing the user, has a 10% chance of killing someone at random and a 35% chance of not going of at all in which case it can be returned to the box.
** If used on anti-town will return a VT result

Once something has been used it is no longer in the box. When you get the box you are told which of the options are available.

List of possible roles, I am happy to explain how any of them would have been interpreted for this game. Also I may or may not have used some of them as one shots, also where applicable they could be town, scum or neutral.

Box sounds fun.

Is it possible to use the box plus your own power at night?

Yes it is in addition to any powers you may or may not have

Also there maybe a short delay as I am rejigging the setup due to an error in the signups, a player got lost!

- Do you have to use the box if you have it at night, or is it optional?
- If Cop A is paranoid and was used on night 1, when someone gets it on night 2, will they be told that Cop B and Cop C are available, or that sane and random are available?
- Are the mechanics for voting for someone to have the box in any way different from those used to vote for lynch (other than color)? Also can we use something like "Box Vote: wam" rather that putting it in color? Color is annoying to add to phone posts.

And I will probably need a clarification on some of the roles below, but I'll see how many of them I can find via google

It is optional

They are told cop B and C are avialable.

Nope the mechanics are the same, I would prefer colour but if I misinterpret a vote thats not in colour I take no responsibility.

So, wait, what is Box and how does box work?

We vote for someone to receive the Box and someone to lynch?

Anyways...

He sighs exasperatedly and explains that it doesn't include clothing. I chide his boss for being unspecific, re-adorn my coat and get in the cab, speeding off into the foggy London night*

When I first read it I saw "someone knock him off." I was worried that having 13 players messed up the game enough for Wam to want to get rid of me quickly.

The box sounds very interesting; we make it explicit not only who we trust the least (the lynchee) but also who we trust the most. Hint: you can trust me.

Your taxis all pull up, you are bundled into an abandoned warehouse, there is a gallows with a note pinned to it.

If you are familiar with the game of mafia you will be in your element, each day you must pick one of your fellows to lynch. If you manage to remove the threats I will let the remainder go, if you don't......

Next to the gallows is a box with an engraving on the top

Box of tricks, will open once per night.

The questions is who do you trust with it, who will use it correctly?

All role pms have been sent, if you did not receive one please let me know ASAP

It is now D1 13 alive 7 to lynch deadline in 7 days. You may commence

I have added the town win condition to the OP

Its meant to be an uninformed mafia, i.e someone who doesnt know who the other members of mafia is but wins with them. like in lynxs recent game.

Sk lord is a role i striggled to describe its basically a serial killer who can recuit an assitant. Appeared in jedi mafia (I think). Roband and i played a variation in GOT where he was a sk and I wanted him to win.

Mimes are effecitvely a jester cult however one dies the other must die that way

Coroner can investigate a body and find out who killed them

strong man has an unblockable kill

Ah, so that's the sort of game this is. Good to know.

And wow that's a strong variant of coroner!

Are roles just randomly picked from that list, or is this a predetermined setup with a bunch of other roles added to the list to cover up which roles there are?

I wrote the setup first then added in a pile of other roles that are standard or that i had enjoyed in the past or that i had considered adding. Also before people start analysing it, it was written randomly and them run through random.org.

I read them on the apple book store. It appears not as many of them are free on the google book store, but here's one to start you off.

Does anyone think it's a little suspicious that Dimochka used parentheses?

Parentheses are usually indicative of a sniper rifle scope, such as (.) aiming at someone's head. So yes, I'm also a day vig.

...

If I get lynched because I used parentheses in a sentence I'm going to be very annoyed.

Is this going to be based on the standard Conan Doyle literature or the recent BBC series? Since it's just called 'Sherlock', I thought the latter, which would make 'M' stand for Mycroft.

I, for one, find ellipses much more suspicious than parentheses.

Conan Doyles' is the only true Sherlock Holmes.

M might stand for Mycroft (Holmes, Sherlock's brother).

Anyways... who to trust and who to not...

But I do recommend the books to anyone who can find them online. The stories are great.

Agreed, but I'm also somewhat partial to the BBC series. It's perhaps some of the best TV released in recent years, and Benedict Cumberbatch and Andrew Scott are truly excellent.

Does anyone think bouer is scum?
