Re: Multiverse Mafia Night Five: Hammer Time!

Postby Lataro » Thu Aug 15, 2013 7:06 am UTC

Today marked a series of tales, all with their own lessons on how the multiverse functions.

First, we had the tale of Angua. She could arguably have been considered the single most powerful being in all the universe. So sure in her neigh immortality was she, that the thought of anyone greater than her, had not been given much consideration. However, when an universe of infinity is but a a flea on the back of dog on a world bordering on infinity itself, surely, others must exist. It was the combined might of these others that brought Angua down. While trying to discover her identity, a journal was found on her body.

The Chronicles Of Kanbabrif wrote:'Treason' exists in lands governed by law. Ivalice will soon have no laws, no government.. no land, even. It will cease to be. There will be naught left of Ivalice - not even the memory. I will obliterate all, in such a manner as to make the gods weep. And when they descend from the heavens to reproach me, I will purge existence of their tyranny as well.

What did it mean? What was Ivalice? Surely those here knew nothing of it, coming from other fleas within the multiverse...

Angua is dead, her role was as follows:

Role: Kanbabrif
Alignment: Survivor
Flavor: To fully understand who you are, you must not only be an avid FFT fan, but you must also know a bit about the FFT community. In short, you are not a God, you created God. You are a being of unlimited power, except for in this game, since it would be impossible to balance your full might for it.
Power: While your magic can not be matched in diversity or power, your best creation is the legendary Banish 2 spell, which not only destroys your enemy, it also reduces them to a crystallized essence. You carry the mighty Nagarock sword, which in any other hands is useless, but in yours it shines, able to inflict any and all statuses on your foes. You are also nearly invulnerable to any form of damage, and the fastest thing to ever exist. Unfortunately, that does not translate well into a balanced Mafia role. You are able to cast Banish 2 each night, it is a blockable kill, however, if successful, you’ll grow in power from absorbing the essence of your fallen enemies.
Win Condition: Survive until the end of the game.*

*Note, she was culted, and thus, the win condition was changed to Total Factional Domination.

Our next tale was of a wizard who took shortcuts though magic to obtain immense power of a different type. While no means a match for Kanbabrif, he was powerful in his own right. The problem was, taking shortcuts to power as he was had its risks. Heedlessly ignoring the advice of his former mentor, that magic was a force of balance, and not just power to be used for selfish ends. He paid the price though, when his rush for power ended his own life, as his powers were turned against him.

Lynx has been killed. His role is as follows:

Role: Evil High Wizard
Alignment: Wizardry Mafia
Flavor: There are many paths in life to power, some study their whole life and give themselves to their work, improving though hard work and determination. Those people are fools. You’ve learned far more than they have in significantly less time. You’ve chosen the darker route, taking unethical shortcuts to obtain your power. You are the Evil High Wizard.
Power: You are able to cast up to three levels of spells per cycle. Your prepared spell list is as follows, read viewtopic.php?f=53&t=71196 for spell descriptions. All references to good and evil are reversed.
Win Condition: Total Factional Domination.

Spells Remaining:
Level 1
Shield, Bolster
Level 2
Spectral Horror, Re-Raise
Feats
Quicken Spell, Silent Spell, Extend Spell (2 left)

These two tales ended in death, but a lesson was learned this day. For no matter how powerful you think yourself to be, in the endless expanse of the infinite infinities, you will always meet your match.

Someone has cast Drain Magic!
Someone has cast Magic Missile!
Someone has cast Magic Missile!

A Missile is following Suzaku!
A Missile is following Valius II!

Day Six starts now! Eight alive, Five to hammer! Deadline is this time next week. About 11 PM UTC -9 Daylight Savings Time Wednesday August 21st.
DS9, after being told the story and moral of the boy who cried wolf by Julian.

Garak: "Are you sure that's the moral?"
Julian: "Of course. What else could it be?"
Garak: "Never tell the same lie twice."

Good that Angu is dead, but at last we do get the reveal that there IS a Cult.

No quite sure why Lynx is dead, but as he was Mafia, I have less of a care.

No Townies, so can this game get any better?

Will the Cult Leader please jump upon this sword? -|===>

OK, thought not.

This does not give me faith in Snark. If Angua turns up Cult, then Snark, despite his previous results, comes under suspiscion.

Erm...
Why?
For the same reason you gave. There just wasn't a need for the comment and especially of that style.

This is a good outcome.
And now we know there's a cult.

Also, wam is still probably an evil wizard.

No.
I don't understand why you might suspect Snark more because the lynchee flipped Cult, rather than not Cult.

Oh bollox!

Mixing Stubbs with Snark.

BN <= Must READ, not SKIM.

Actually with Angua confirmed as Cult, I now go back to the link I picked up with Wam.
We know that Wam is not Town, so is Wam the Cult Leader?

I think at this stage, we do need to rid ourselves of a known non-Townie.

I'm more interested in the Angua BN link that stubbs flagged up, I do need to go look at that though.

What I think we can all agree on is that the odds of me having been culted are low.

This is a long shot but

What night was angua culted?

Also I was roleblocked last night.

So Angua was a survivor. Before she was culted, at any rate.
That certainly casts suspicion on wam, by his own argument that there are unlikely to be two survivors in the game.

The fact that he's survived this long after that whole survivor-no-jester-no-survivor claim mess indicates another powerful role (neutralised that MM, yes?) - anyone else thinking SK at this point? We know there's an 'evil ritual' flavoured NK around, which didn't happen on a night he claims to have been RBed.

Vote: wam
as it's the best thing I can see right now, and I'm sick of the way day starts and ends have ambushed me this game.

Need to see if Angua's interactions with any player changed notably from one day to the next - there's a good chance such a player will be the recruiter.
I need to be more awake than now to do that, though.

Don't have much time, but I'll post my results.

Cop on Suzaku: not town
Jailkeep: wam
Busdrive: Xenomortis and lynx

So I think I succeeded in my bonus win condition

More later. I'm on holiday

Luckily Suzaku already has a missile after him.

Stubbs, do you mind Jailkeeping me on future nights? I've used all my useful spells up so I don't need to be doing night actions, and I'd appreciate the doctoring. For what it's worth, I sent the missile at you N4 and shielded it away D5 after believing your claim.

I'd be happy lynching wam, but Suzaku (not town) is voting wam, which leads me to believe that wam might not be the best choice.

That confirms my gut feel, big nose cult leader suzaku recruitee. That las post by suzaku looked pretty bandwaggony. My bet is that were in lylo against the cult and their puahing me as they easy lynch. So far what bn and suzaku have done suggest an agreed overmight plan to push a lynch on me.

Yeh, yeh.

TBH, given Snark's cop of Suzaku, it now becomes moot as to whether its Wam or Suzaku that gets lynched.

So I will switch or not, based on the other votes. Makes no difference to me.

Hey guys.
I'm at an airport so no time to read.

All I know is that if I don't use my power ASAP, it will kill me. Therefore:

Banish Shot: BigNose

It's random. Based on the merest shred of evidence. Once again I apologize for this. All sorts of flight jumping bs going on with delays and transfers and offloads.

Well I at least got a chance to read the day flavour post.
It seems that I am targeted.

I can only hope that once my daykill flips (if my hunch was correct) then you will see that I am in fact town and thus that someone will shield me.
If not then good luck.

The day had been fast, and the night faster still, those remaining were eager to discover who among them was their enemy still.

BigNose is dead! His role is as follows:

Role: FPTSLBOOIA
Alignment: Town
Flavor: I don’t know your origin, however, you have existed here for some time as a joke role. Once again, you take center stage and shine, you Flying Pumpkin That Shoots Laser Beams Out Of Its Ass!
Power: Can choose to fly at night, making them immune to all night actions, but only if they are not role blocked. Can choose to arm lasers at night, a person that targets them that night will then be killed (blockable by doctor), even if they were flying and so the targeting night action had no effect. Failure to submit this action will assume no powers active at night. Target killed will have a hierarchy of triggers that are already assigned.
Win Condition: Eliminate all anti-town factions.

Also of note, Valius II had barely started their sprint from the missile when it sped up and took them down mercilessly.

Valius II is dead, their role is as follows:

Role: (Inherited) Mega Man
Alignment: Town
Flavor: The blue bomber! You’re here and ready to Rock and Roll. Okay, bad pun. What is there to say? You’re a hero, a beacon of light in a troubled world, a savior for those who can’t protect themselves!
Power: Each person that is lynched, you gain some of their power. How much and so forth will be determined at the time of the lynch taking place, there is no exact science to this, just like some of the weapons you gain when you kill a boss in the games!
Win Condition: Eliminate all anti-town factions.

Six alive, Four to hammer! Deadline is same as previous day! About 11 PM UTC -9 Daylight Savings Time Wednesday August 21st.

Day Seven starts now!
