Here's my new exercise plan: Stretch.

I ride my bike to work often - except I forget/get too lazy to stretch. It's gotten to the point where I can barely touch my toes - I dance so being able to touch my toes is easy.

Here's my new diet: eat healthy food, in moderation.

I've noticed that I don't realize I've stopped being hungry until I've eaten so much that I'm uncomfortably full. During this next week, I'm going to eat slowly and mindfully, and stop eating before I feel full.

Here's how I'm going to accomplish this: guilt!

I'm going to use this forum to keep track of how I'm doing. If I gobble down a bunch of homemeade apple cinnamon oatmeal, I'll have to sheepishly tell you all what I did.

Negative motivators: I'm afraid of getting sick. I feel guilty if I overdo things. I don't want to put on weight.
Positive motivators: I like feeling healthy. Doing things in moderation make me feel better about myself. I like the way I look when I'm fit.

Now all you have to do is (magically!) make those positive motivators your own ... which is kinda hard. But possible. Habits take time to learn. Be patient with yourself. :wink:

You would be surprised. If you think about what certain foods are doing to your arteries long and hard enough, you will start losing your appetite if you even try to eat it.

I agree. Guilt works badly in making me do things, but it's wonderful for making me NOT do things. Example: Guilt won't motivate me to exercise. It will stop my hand from reaching for that doughnut, however. It all depends on how much work is involved -- Not eating cake involves not going to the trouble of buying or making cake, so it's easy. Not exercising is also easy, though. Laziness has kept me thin and flabby.

You can always try just setting limits before you start eating, and make those limits physical ones. If you say you only want to eat a plate of food(however much you decide that is), pack it into a fixed volume container and leave the food source so that it's more of a chore to go back for more than it is to discontinue eating. Do this until you don't eat as much just habitually and your stomach will shrink over time, so that even when you may occasionally over-do it, you're over-doing less because you can't comfortably eat as much.
