Indeed.

It was supposed to be "When you see it you'll go Awwwww!" ...

but the cat was giving me such an evil look that it was closer to "When you see it you'll freak" than to being a parody thereof.

Well, I just finished going through those albums and uploading the cropped and scaled images. Cheers, everyone!

That was such a tedious pita I'm considering not taking the camera on my next trip at all.

Waxing gibbous, so the left edge ought to be dark. 3 got the red colour but 1 and 4 got the surface detail.

It is a beautifully clear night and my fingertips hurt from handling the bare aluminium tripod.

I was hoping to see the Andromeda galaxy in some pictures, but it's not easy to aim the camera nearly straight up on a tripod.

It started out cloudy here, but thin enough cloud to be able to see the curve of the shadow's edge, then that cleared and it became a beautiful night.

A beautiful, cloudless, January 4am. I'm not convinced I've warmed up yet.

Two sets of batteries down and the third wouldn't supply the power to take stills, so I have a series of video clips instead. Gave them an hour of charge and went back out to get the curved shadow edge on the other side too.

120mm is best i can do...i think i need something better for the sky one of these days...the non smushed shows the stars around it but this upload looks rather dark unless you click on it. This was during the full eclipse i just left it exposed longer to get the red and the highlight on the edge

Those are some great pics, Sableagle!

Been taking lots of pics of the gorgeous places I hike everyday lately, and sharing with various internet communities. Figure I should share some here too. These are from my two hikes today; I should post some more from the even more gorgeous sets I've taken earlier this week and last, some time soon, maybe.

The Ventura River on my lunch break:

Gridley and Fuelbreak Road trails behind the foothills of Ojai, after work this evening (first time I've ever been up Fuelbreak, too):

I particularly like how this one shows the scars of the Thomas Fire amidst the new life of spring:

There is a house hidden amidst the distant house-sized boulders in this photo. Can you find it?

I think this is the high point of Fuelbreak Road trail; I came from the right and it continues down to the left:

I loved the flowers among the ash. It was almost as if they were celebrating having had a fire and cleared away the brush.

I took a vacation last weekend

Image

To the LA Zoo:

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

"A zebra named Debra, or as you say in America, Deebra" - Trevor Noah

Image

Image

Image

Also Joshua Tree:

Image

Image

that last flower is my new favorite minced oath: "oh fiddlenecks!"

Image

I like that one little spot of color in the desert, though there's more elsewhere:

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

never seen a bee warning roadsign before

Image

yo dawg i herd i liek takin pictures so i took a picture of me takin a picture so i can take a picture of mah picture, dawg

Image

those are people up in the top right, for scale

Image

Image

I finally saw a joshua tree in Joshua Tree and then my camera died

but I just used my girlfriend's for the rest of the trip, to a couple other places over the next few days. more pics of that later.

finally back with more from that vacation, but first, just some flowers around the neighborhood:

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

now back to the LA zoo:

Image

found where they keep the raptors:
Image

Image

welcome... to giraffic park:
Image

(fun story: I said that while approaching this exhibit, and started humming the JP theme song. hours later, I overheard some kids at the zoo singing the same theme song as they watched elephants or something else, and I wondered if I I had started them on that)

Image

Image

i am no mere cat:
Image

back to joshua tree:

Image

Image

Image

Image

this is why it's called the High Desert:
Image

Image

hey an actual joshua tree, in Joshua Tree:

into the anza-borrego desert, especially galleta meadows:

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

this metal dinosaur is also a pretty princess
probably some kind of magical girl too
japanese magical princess metal dinosaur raptor attack go

Image

juan bautista de anza cosplays as a metal statue cosplaying as himself
Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

carlsbad flower fields (should be called carl's GOOD flower fields amirite?)

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

you hear about the lady who went to work in the tractor factory while her husband went off to war?
she ended up writing her husband a john deere letter

Image

Image

and finally back to the san diego zoo safari park again:

Image

Image

Image

Image

what do you call a nosy dinosaur?
a rhinosaurus
Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

it's so much harder to get good pics of animals than it is of plants, so most of my pics from the zoos are not worth posting, even even the ones i did post anyway are questionable

I found this cute little frog in my garage today. I’m pretty sure that it’s Eleutherodactylus marnockii. Interestingly, this frog skips the tadpole phase entirely: it hatches as a little froglet. They don’t need water to breed. I was shooing him out and doing this with my hand helped control the way he jumped.
