English is not a good language to curse in. I like German terms like "merkbefreit" (exempt from remembering something and thus from changing ones behavior like a human being would do), "hirnkastriert" (brain-castrated), dumm wie Toastbrot/5 Meter Feldweg" (dumb like toasted bread/5 meters unasphalted road).

But I want to introduce one from one of my conlangs: k~hilih~s (pronounced like /gi:lID/ (in X-Sampa), alternative transliteration: geelith)

English is a great language to curse in, especially as you can compress a lot of meaning into a relatively short turn of phrase. It's just not many people are very creative with cursing in English because English-speaking societies still work up sex-related taboos as too linguistically powerful, and resort to them instead.

I tend to just string together alliterations when I curse. (it's amusing when I unconsciously do it in public too. People react weirdly when you yell "Raucous racing raccoons!" or "Jumping Jews of Jerusalem!" in public ;) )

a few years ago my friends and I created a swear word to encompass all the evil and negative energy associated with every curse in the universe combined.

it is limited to 3 uses per year.

i think if I put it in a spoiler tag, it doesn't count...

Phlook. The "ph" is pronounced like an "F" so it really sounds like flook, but it's not. It's a phlook. Can be used in pretty much any situation as a verb, noun, or adjective and doesn't really hve a specific meaning. It is the embodiment of pure trashiness, that's it.

Ex.

"You're such a phlook."

"Nice way to phlook that test, dick face."

"This food tastes so phlook!"

The norwegian word for "fuck" (the swearword, not the sex0r) is "faen".. When typing that on cellphones with T9 wordlist they say it should be "fafo".. I like it, so I sometimes use fafo instead of faen:) Sounds less harsh too. And it's a cute word. And most ppl get it actually (I'm not the only one who uses it)

English is a great language for making up words! That is why slang changes so often.

The malleability of English is both its greatest asset and its greatest weakness. Words can mean many different things in many different contexts. Inventing new contexts is the fun part of the language! Although it is frustrating, because too often is the general looseness of the language taken advantage of by people who don't bother learning the basic ground rules for spelling and grammar, for example run on sentences.

Given the way english works, it seems as if it would make more sense to just steal
whatever curse words you need from other languages.

Although, depending on context, it's hard go wrong with
"cum burping gutter slut", "thumbless waste of air", or "target".

If you're looking for something to yell after you opened a door
and stripped your toenail off, I guess you probably want something
shorter, (and which would properly be called an expletive).
I usually just hiss, though.

So are you after creative insults, expletives, or supernaturally backed ill-wishes?

I'm Joeldi here. I usually just use normal words in awkward situations My two most common ones are 'feet' and 'chickens'

for example, if I were to be caught off gaurd, a comment such as "Holy feet" or "What the chickens?" might be said.
I am also known to cram a bunch of h, e, g, m, i, and t's together in extreme moments of swearing. I leave you now with
what I said when King beat me for the fifth time in a row on Tekken 4: "Oh my hgemiffigentishbom, can he gemehgrrrr..."

Like a few other people on this thread, I use normal/acceptable in really weird places; if my toe was just stubbed: "Ow.. Ow.. ohh.. man... f*ckin' almanac!"

My made up curse word would be spignat.

I think that anything with IPA:/x/ (like ch in "loch") works fantastically as a curse-word (particularly if you put it in several times) like "khanahk" (/kxənəxk/). My personal favourite for toe-stubbings and so-on is like "yaischk" (/jəɪɕk/).

One of my favorite insults is one I got from Pynchon's Against the Day:
Aitisi Nai Poroja, which is Finnish for "Your mother fucks reindeer."

Beyond that, I'm not too creative with coming up with my own. I stick with the classics.

Some of my own personal favorite words to use are as such: pussy wrinkle, cum bubble, ass squash, dick vomit, benji headed bastard, fucktard, fuck rag, corn wedged cunt, and one eyed blue balled saggy tit-bagged bitch eater. i took a swing at that last one but i've a couple of these words from other people.

...Impressive collection we have so far. I myself am fond of using "pants" in many situations - it earns "wtf?" looks from an entire room if done properly. "Fuckbeans" and "fuckballs", for whatever reason, are also appealing. I guess I just needed that cadence after a single-syllable curse. Additionally, simply "balls" will get used - this confused my roommate greatly at one point (I said it while knitting, when I dropped a stitch). She thought I meant actual balls; beach balls, or something. I replied, no, I meant testicles - and upon her reaction (violent blushing) proceeded to spend the rest of the day randomly and inappropriately exclaiming, "Testicles!"

The best part was when our other roommate caught on, and out of nowhere, blurted quite merrily "Pussy!"
phisrow: "You know, I only need one hand to operate a blowtorch."

I find that as i avoid curse words so much, and even now i cant bring myself to say the F-word, even in text, when i do say it the people around me are so taken aback that it works just fine. also i find that it is much more fun to use eloquent insults then actual curse words, thus limiting myself to exsplitives.

ACK!!!!! said with the right intonation works just fine

I had a professor - a crotchety old guy, who had a habit of smoking a pipe indoors, something expressly prohibited that no one under the age of 70 could get away with - who, while trying to get a digital projector to work, exclaimed, "oh, BALLS." That moment will go to my grave as one of my fondest memories from college.

Not to get all serious, but can a curse word really work if it doesn't reference some sort of taboo? Granted, the way we use them today, they're just sort of general grunts of displeasure.

Why is it that people who dont curse, or those who avoid actual curse words looking at this forum? shouldn't they go to a site called http://www.ohmigodimacunt.com? i dont want to be mean to the little care bears that are coming on this forum and trying their little elmo best to insult someone, but its stupid and they should be castrated. shouting words like "balls" is kewl at times but the only reaction from it is shock and suprise. its a gross term, and people arent used to hearing it but its not a curse word, and it insults no one. Erm, what? You have something against people who don't curse, or those who use unconventional curse words? Why? As I understand it, the point of the curses this thread are not to insult, but just to be something to shout when you're frustrated (or they seem to be that in general, some of them are for insulting people, and I think those work). If you were trying to actually insult someone, sure, some of them might get you laughed at instead of feared (or whatever you were trying to instill), but there's no point in bitching out an inanimate object.

(for the record: yes, I curse when I'm angry. It usually doesn't make me feel any better, though. I'd think that yelling "oh, spoons!" or somesuch instead of "fuckfuckfuck" would make me giggle and lessen my annoyance, which is generally a good thing.)
you may remember me from 2008 or 2009. I left for a while. I'm now sporadically back. I tumble here.

Hmm... since the creation of the thread, I've realized I can't come up with something that can verbally replace 'WTF." (example: holy puppet in a sausage factory)
So I've just been using "Holy something in a somewhere"
