Do you sing along when you're listening to music?

Postby The Hyphenator » Fri Feb 15, 2008 12:44 am UTC

I sometimes sing along to music; I find it's more fun than just listening to it alone. So do other people do this or am I the only one?

Always.

If I'm listening to music that I didn't choose for some reason (someone else is playing it, etc.) I don't necessarily sing along, because I often either don't know the lyrics or don't like the song, but I figured that situation didn't count.

Alot of the time I'm only listening to music in my head, and then there's not always a vocal component to the singalong, but I think I usually mouth words or whistle tunes (when it's instrumental, or when the instrumental part is more important to me than the words).

I frequently do, but mostly only when I'm alone, and never when it is bad music.

Rarely. It tends to depend on the artist, actually. I've noticed that Luxuria pretty much forces me to sing along... it's eerie, but very nice when I dare give the music a listen. Other than that, I barely sing along to music, but due to Luxuria I picked otter/duck. ;)

Often. Unless it's instrumental. Then I mouth band it.

My favourite is singing along when other people are listening to music. Best way to get people to turn down there iPods.

I often sing, but nearly ALWAYS make sounds along with the music, even if they're really quite sounds that I can only even feel in my mouth.

Indeed I do, but usually only when there's nobody else around. I can't stand the sound of my brother singing, and thus wouldn't want to be labeled a hypocrite by inflicting my singing on others.

I always sing along with the music, but only if I'm alone. Only time I'll sing along with it in the company of others is if they're singing along with it as well.

One little thing I do that others may not do is if possible, I try to imitate the singer's voice as much as possible. I find that almost anything by the Beatles is easy to do that to. Sometimes I can do it with the Eagles, Billy Joel, Steve Miller, and several other male singers. I can only do it if there's no yelling or screaming in the song involved.

If I'm driving, almost always. Doesn't matter if there are people in the car with me or not. Otherwise, rarely.

I picked often and rarely because since there were 2 poll options, I had to pick the maximum amount. Some songs just make me want to sing along, but some I am content to listen to in silence. If I know the lyrics well enough, though, I'm pretty much guaranteed to sing along.

In public, I usually will sing along still (if it's a song that inspires me), but kind of under my breath, so others won't be annoyed. I'm not a very good singer. :P

Like Gelsamel, I often sing, but pretty much always make a noise of some sort. Not necessarily a vocal noise (explanation). I don't often sing along if it's a female singer.

Pretty much always, unless I don't know/can't figure out (coughR.E.M.cough) the lyrics. I sing terribly, as well, so to make up for that I do so loudly. Yeah, most people don't like to listen with me...

I sing in the car fairly often, especially if I am alone.

I do have a tendency to go around humming music and randomly bursting into song.

I mostly sing when I'm in the car.

When I'm not I feel less inclined to sing along for some reason.

I sing everywhere except the office. When I'm the only one listening I will sing along with music, but mostly the tune is in my head. It's especially common for me to be singing to myself when alone in a public area, or at least when no one I know is particularly paying attention to me. It makes me happy when people comment---"you're a happy soul", or something similar.

Strongly agree with the car loudly comment.

Sometimes. It really depends. I'll sing along if I know the lyrics, and if it won't bother anyone. There are only certain songs I'll sing along to whilst walking down the street (for fear of sounding insane); of course, I counteract this by lip-synching to pretty much everything else while walking (and doing silly air-guitar movements, as well).

Almost always. To the point that if someone asks me a question while I'm listening to something, there's probably a good three-fourths chance that I'll sing the answer back in time with the music.

My non-music-nerd friend was delighted and fascinated to find that I do this too. Any time I sing along, it's usually automatic (I swear I'm not conscious of it) and traditionally in harmony (I've been an alto too long).

I do this too, often to artists that based their career around catering to the sort of people that don't sing along to songs (like Nirvana - say, "In Bloom," which openly mocks people who sing along).

There's a significant difference between 'often' and 'rarely'...where is the 'sometimes'?

It really depends on the music I'm listening to, and how much I like the song/artist.

I almost have to restrain myself not to. I've had people come up to my housemate and ask if she lives with "that girl who sings," and I had some couple come up to me in a restaurant a couple stops away from my place and say "I recognise you! I love your singing!" Garners a lot of funny looks, though admittedly not as many as the air conducting does.

I wish I came across more singing and dancing in the streets. I mean, why aren't people having more fun in life?
