Oh picking one favourite is impossible, however, a steady contender would certainly be...

Tool - pushit (live)

-from the Salival box set

You really need to hear a high quality version of this song to truly appreciate it and like Maynard says at the beginning of the song... "just shut your eyes and go there"

Hmmm, if you'd asked me last month, I would have said "Still alive". Now, it's dropped to an awesome top song, but probably not the best.

My favorite song changes so often its hard to pick one. It all depends on my mood and what I'm into at the time. Currently I've been listening Streetlight Manifesto a whole bunch and this is one of my favorite songs. http://youtube.com/watch?v=8NTyCLU0Gv0 That's got a pretty bad quality, but the song is still incredible.

Ayreon - Across the Rainbow Bridge

This song never fails to wow me. And I must have listened to it upwards of a hundred times by now.

Bellamy is such a musical talent.

Some of the choices here so far have proven to be rather shit, though.

"Demons" by Guster. It's not the BEST song I've ever heard, but it's my favorite. I have a lot of memories attached to it, I love the lyrics and the tune and the band, and it's just got so much feeling to me that it's my favorite song to listen to.

I'm going to go for obscure. Niamh Parson's version of Fear A Bhàta. It can be found on Blackbirds and Thrushes.

I think my favorite song changes regularly, right now it's Fake Palindromes by Andrew Bird. He's so cool.

This song is, at 11:24, too long to be uploaded to YouTube in its entirety, so bits were snipped off of the beginning and end. A song about how John Petrucci, the guitarist of Dream Theater, reflects on life in a band and how it affects his relationship with his wife, it manages to be sad without being cloyingly wangsty, has some amazing instrumentals, and is currently my favorite song :D

Endless Sacrifice

Apocalyptica's cover of Welcome Home (Sanitarium)

It's not a perfect song, far from it, it doesn't even sound that good during numerous moments, and I really can't stand Metallica (yet hate it when fans don't credit original songs, ala Jeff Buckleys adoring legions and Leonard Cohen)
But for some reason the moment I heard it, it made me fall instantly in love with stringed instruements, so much so that I now play the violin (if you can call what I do 'playing' the violin)
It completely changed my entire way at looking at music, my entire knowledge of music used to be Linkin Park, Queen's Greatest Hits, and the MTV Nirvana live album.
(not that the last two aren't amazing)
It threw the small 14 year old conceptions aside and opened my mind to a world of music, from Reggae like Desmond Dekker and Willie Williams, to Jazz like Miles Davis, to Post-Punk like The Birthday Party or The Cure, to actual Punk like The Clash or the Ramones (shut up), to Classical like Vivaldi (hate Mozart though, don't get be started about him), to Spoken Word Poetry to Delta Blues to Post-Core Punk to Industrial, to true Alternative Rock like The Pixies, to that new what they call 'indie' stuff these days with Feist and Arcade Fire, to French folk, to the seriously Avant Garde, to 60's-70's Folk, to everything you could imagine. Oh, and especialy Post-Rock.

Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon, I treat it as a song. No person should go through life without turning the lights off, turning your brain off, and dedicating 45 minutes to listening to this album from start to finish.
Who are you and who am I
To say we know the reason why?
Some are born; some men die
Beneath one infinite sky.
There'll be war, there'll be peace.
But everything one day will cease.
All the iron turned to rust;
All the proud men turned to dust.

Sufjan Stevens' For the Widows in Paradise, For the Fatherless in Ypsilanti.

I should disclose that I have a personal attachment to this song, but I adored it even before that came about.
