It's an interesting one. The genre-juggling is done pretty well for the most part. The lead actress, An Seo Hyun, is fantastic.

Paul Dano is very much a New Sincerity actor - going off on a tangent from method acting -, which often impresses, but it can be uncomfortably intense, which is part of the package. Jake Gyllenhaal is a little too weird. Some parts of his performance are quite disturbing, others are just awkward to watch. Tilda Swinton is very "Burn After Reading" (though not her character from it).

The real conflict in the movie is left decidedly unresolved.
There's a certain amount of freedom involved in cycling: you're self-propelled and decide exactly where to go. If you see something that catches your eye to the left, you can veer off there, which isn't so easy in a car, and you can't cover as much ground walking.

I agree about the lead actress, she was great. Ditto Paul Dano. I don't know what Jake Gyllenhaal was thinking with his performance though!
