Wipeout HD

Postby Jack Saladin » Sun Sep 28, 2008 5:52 am UTC

It's Wipeout, it's on the Playstation Network for PS3, it's like 20 bucks.

If anybody here has it (and you few PS3 owners on these boards should really get it, it's great), I'll race ya. My PSN is Dormin.

How awesome is it?

It's so pretty, and playing against real people is so much fun.

My PSN is r1chardj0n3s - I'm in Australia tho (UTC +10)

I'll be playing in like 20 minutes and staying on for the next, say... five or six hours. Message me if you're on during that time.

Bah, only because I had to jump off the game :)

Seriously though, is there some way to easily play against a friend or am I missing it? If the game isn't listed as started by them you're pretty much screwed???

Also, the text message interface is teh buggy. I spent a minutes once because it wouldn't let me write "I" -- every time I hit space the "I" was removed -- and then got your message asking where the hell I'd gotten to :).

I shouldn't play Rapier class on maps I don't know :)

Nahyeah, if they're not hosting it's impossible to find anybody. The online doesn't have the widest set of features in the universe.

And I'll happily accept a rematch... I'll even let you choose the speed and track. :P

I was wondering, how many people here play with pilot assist on? I didn't for a while, but the game seems to be more fun with it on, as I spend less time forcing myself on a wall.

Set it to Phantom speed. Turn on Pilot Assist. Hold down X.

You will get a decent time. On thin tracks with harsh corners like Ubermall, you will get a fantastic time. When I say "hold down X", I mean it literally - you don't have to touch the directional controls once.

Pilot Assist is pretty much an auto-pilot, and it makes some tracks (Ubermall and Sebenco Climb) extremely unfair because PA players can take those corners at break-neck speed whereas everyone else has to slow down, and others (say, Sol friggin' 2) extremely unfair because PA players literally cannot fall off the track.

I won't play PA players. I can usually beat them because of all the disadvantages they have (can't take the best lines, slight speed cap), but it's still unfair and they can mess you up with your trying to beat a legitimate player by being impossible to pass. And, like I said, on any track where falling off is a constant risk such as Sol 2, it's just a farce.

I don't have a problem with people using it offline - whatever you find fun, it's your game (though the mind boggles at why someone would want to play that... defeats the purpose if you ask me), but the fact it's allowed online is just ridiculous. You'd never find a FPS with an optional aimbot packaged in there, and this is exactly what this is... Hell this is worse. At least you'd have to run around with an aimbot, instead of just holding one button. And you can't even see when online players are using the damn thing.

I didn't realise you could play with PA online! How can you tell if they have it on?

Yeah, I realized today that it's really not terribly challenging. But then without it, the game becomes too challenging and I crash into every damn wall. So, I'm at a loss.

I'm not even sure why it's available online, it might be nice if they took it down in the update. I never see anyone else crashing into walls like I do, so I wonder sometimes how many are using PA.

Also, is anyone else getting weird random game freezes? And is it possibly to send chat messages over the internet?

You can't, which is the worst thing.

Practice. Wipeout is all about memorising the tracks.

Seriously?

Well I mean over the online mode in the game. I looked in the game guide and there was nothing, and I plugged in my keyboard and nothing happened, so I'm not sure.

The way some guy above was talking, I thought you might be able to send messages in the lobby to people that aren't your friends while waiting for the game to start.

Douche.
