Goozex - Game Trading Site

Postby MFHodge » Thu Jan 10, 2008 8:40 pm UTC

Goozex.com

I signed up for this service last week and it is going really well. Here's how it works:

  • You add all the games you want to get rid of to your Library.
  • You add all the games you want to your Requests.
  • All games have a point value from 100 ($5) to 1000 ($50), that is controlled by Goozex.
  • You have trade credits that you buy for $1 each (you get a few free ones also) that pay for the service.
  • The system finds people who want your games and gives you an address to send it to.
  • When your game is received you get points and your Requests can be processed.
  • When a game is sent to you, it consumes a $1 trade credit (that's all the cash that's required).
  • When you first sign up you get a free 100 points and one free trade credit. You get one more free trade credit when you get your first positive feedback.

I have sent out six games total and have three in the mail to me, and have enough points for a high profile game. Obviously you have to wait in line to get newer stuff. Most of the games I have sold were older ones that I never would have touched again, and a couple DS puzzle games that I have traded for others.

If you sign up with this referral link, I get some trade credits: http://www.goozex.com/trading/asp/join. ... 1646125955

That sounds like a really neat service. How do the points get added though? By this I mean how does the service know when you send a game or when your intended recipient receives it?

Here's the step-by-step:

  • Seller gets an email saying that says someone wants their game.
  • Seller clicks a button to say that they agree to send the game.
  • Buyer's points and trade credit are "put on hold".
  • Seller prints a pre-addressed label (optional) and sends the game off.
  • Buyer gets the game in the mail and tests it out.
  • Buyer gives Positive feedback for seller.
  • Points are moved from Buyer to Seller.

If you get a broken game, pirated copy, or nothing at all, then you leave negative feedback and you don't get charged the points.

I looked at this a while ago, but I never saw an answer to this: What stops someone from just leaving bad feedback every time they get a game?

Same reason you don't tell PayPal that you were sent a broken [gadget] when you buy it through eBay.

I try never to over-estimate human decency nor human intelligence (not even my own, most of the time)

I really like the idea. I'm assuming that it's a North America only thing, though.

So, how do new trade points enter the system?

If I trade game X to someone, and game X is worth, say, 500 points, then that means I gain 500 points and they lose 500 points. If someone trades game Y to me, a similar thing happens. Essentially, you "give" the other person points to get a game, and you "get" their points when you give them a game. If the number of people using the system grows but the total number of points in it does not, then points will eventually be scarce.

How do new points get created?

Everyone starts out with 100 points (that might have been a limited time offer, though). You can also buy points at a rate of $5 = 100 pts.

I'm actually a little frustrated with the people who signed up for the free 100 points, and then get a free $5 game. New users have a limited number of trading slots. I currently have 5 outgoing trades available, and three of them are to zero-feedback users. At least one of them (probably 2) should have gotten the game a while ago and he just hasn't left feedback. So I can't make more trades until that trade auto-closes after three-weeks. It's not really screwing me - I'll still get the points - just slowing me down.

I'm bumping because Goozex is running a special offer for the month of March where all trades are free. You only use points and don't have to pay the $1 trade credit. I took the opportunity to use up my stockpile of points for a few games that I was waiting on.

Bumping your own thread? Tsk tsk. I wonder if this is even the right color modpen.. -ST

Wish I had the 950 I need for Guitar Hero II (XBox 360)... :-(

Maybe I'll miraculously trade away two games this month.

Say, does this cover Europe as well, or is it only active in the USA?

Also: This is an ingenious way of making money by the company hosting it. I take it that you can only exchange your points for more games and not for money?

USA, Canada, and one Caribbean nation (Bermuda maybe?).

Yeah, it's a pretty great business model for them. There is no way to sell points, just trade for games.

Also, they are running a special for the month of March where you don't have to pay the $1 Trade Credit. I took advantage of the offer to jump on some of my "on-hold" games that I was going to wait longer for. I've gotten 5 games in this month, including Call of Duty 4 and Uncharted for PS3, and sent 3 games out.

Cool, I've been using Goozex for about a year now, and I love it, I'm out of points though. I'm way too poor to buy new ones, so if anyone would like to trade, check out my goozex profile and see if there is anything you like. I'm trying to get Shiren the Wanderer right now, so any help is nice, here's my profile
I currently have two games up for offer, so check them out.

The second one is a referral link if you want to help me get some points

I might be somewhat interested in this idea in some way. I'm not crazy about using eBay for hard to find games. Although I'd probably be more interested if they did older games as well. Does anybody know if their friend GameTZ.com is reliable?

I put up Xenogears as disc only (which annoys me, since it's disc and case, but NOT manual), and immediately matched up, which was pretty cool.

You could just pay $5 for 100 points.

Man, things go surprisingly fast. Like, seriously, who is asking for KOF:MI? I dunno, but I'm shipping it out tomorrow along with two other things that I forgot what they were. And getting The Godfather, which is great since I just got GTA4. I need to buy a couple trades, though.

This is true. I might just do that, depending on the wait for the rest of my games.

Video Game Trading + Free Game

Postby b hythloday » Thu May 08, 2008 10:35 pm UTC

I'd like to alert people here to Goozex, in case you're unaware of it.

Essentially, it is a site for trading video games. You get "points" for sending in video games that you no longer want, and in return, you can select games from other people to be sent to you.

Here's the kicker, though: anyone who registers before June 30 gets 100 free Goozex points to spend on a game. No credit card, no monthly fee, just a free hundred points. So if there's some old video game that you really want, here's a good way to get it for free.

For reference, here are some awesome games that are worth 100 points on Goozex:

Sims 2
Command & Conquer
Diablo II
Call of Duty 2
Star Wars Battlefront II
StarCraft
Battlefield 2: Special Forces
Doom 3
Quake 4

oh

I'm sorry, I didn't see that thread

I just figured now would be a good time to tell/remind people about this, given that the "free 100 points at signup" offer ends in less than a month, according to the site

You also figured you could use your referral link to get you 100 points per signup, too, huh?

God, I've been sending more games than I've gotten. So far I've received Godfather and Munch's Oddysee with Mega Man: Powered Up on its way, and sent like five or six games, and have a stack of four more to send out. Hopefully I'll get Mega Man Legends 2 soon. Stupid 1000 point PS1 games.

Actually, that's a good thing since I want to clear my back inventory.
