I'm currently in the process of making portal videos... showing all of the lines, really cool parts, and the first time introducing game concepts, while skipping all of the puzzle-solving, for people who want to see the "story" but not all the gameplay. AFAIK there's no such thing out there yet. Should I bother making a new thread for this, or should I just put it here when I'm done?

I LOVE the personality core character. It would be interesting to meet the personality cores that dropped off from GLaDOS in the first game although mabye you only meet this one.

I printed out two copies and posted them on the bulletin boards where I work, in a medium-sized public library.

Since 4PM yesterday, three people have taken tags. I wonder if Valve hates us yet.

Oh, hey, guys, I bet most of you haven't heard this line yet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BStTaGSnbQ

You wouldn't hear it if you were:
-not trying to get the radio achievement
-trying to get the radio achievement, but actually good at it
-not screwing around for no reason and trying to get stuck

Haha, I did that during my playthrough with my friend, long before the radio achievement was added. I believe I was screwing around for no reason, though.

I got that in level 13... if you trap all the boxes in the room you start in, with the button, but you're in the main chamber (and there's nothing on the button) then you'll get the same message and the door between the rooms will open so you can portal back in and get your boxes.

Hey, does anyone know how co-op will work for PC? Will it support the use of two mice? Or can you connect an Xbox 360 controller?

So, I FINALLY finished the radio achievement, hoping it would make the extra radios go away. They didn't. The only ones that are supposed to be there are the one right in the beginning, the one in the room with the boxes in chamber 16, and the one in the hole in the wall at the beginning of chamber 18. Having radios playing that music at you the whole time ruins the mood. Anybody know a way to get rid of them?

*update*

So far, most of the tags are gone, and we've had two complaints. One was a woman who was upset that the "company" had been allowed to cover a corner of her sign (on a public bulletin board), and the other was from a guy who wanted his cake. I think I've rather accomplished my goal of making life a little more surreal.

How about:
Spoiler:
"This is not a competition right now. But if it was, Orange would definably be winning."
Made me laugh out loud. Oh and the
Spoiler:
"If you fail, I'll make you wish you could die!"
which references the re-spawn in the Co-op.*

*left that unspoilered as it's a big part of the gameplay, to make co-op more forgiving and allow you to fight each other on occasion, and not really a spoiler.
It's all physics and stamp collecting.

They so need to expand on the "cake" idea. Something like "The cake is a lie... but truth is in the Pie!"
Then you can spend the entire game in pursuit of the pie!

Actually, I think Valve said there will be absolutely no mention of cake in Portal 2.

by far my favourite game ever!
I really like trying to get the least portals on every map (or even beating the gold records set by valve)
I made a little script as well which adds a portal count (and timer/step count... but im crap at them, so didnt set good times/steps for them) to the advanced chambers and then set records for each of the advanced chambers... Watch here
if anyone is interested in the script I could try find my link for it...
also... cannot wait for portal 2... noel fielding as the personality sphere is pure brilliance!

Not to be a portal hater, but I think this forum gives good supporting evidence that the orange box was really a multiplayer game with a singleplayer campaign, an interesting puzzle game, and some added freebies (TF2's thread is literally 8x longer than portals and years after release still has not left the front page for a moment). As much as I liked portal, TF2 was simply so much more the main entree on a legendary full course meal. I am worried portal 2 may suffer when it is placed front and center rather than "ZOMG AAAAND PORTAL!"

I like potatoes as a side but not as a main dish.

Or that's because the TF2 thread has many more posts because it's multiplayer. People can talk about new things they got up to, organise games and all manner of fun things to do with multiplayer.
Portal, being single player, doesn't lend itself to vast amounts of continuous talking beyond 'Yup, that as fun'.
It's the same with any single player game.

Well, when the Orange Box was released Portal was a fairly low budget experiment. After it was widely regarded as the best game ever made (relatively speaking), it naturally got extra funding and a brighter spotlight for the sequel.

I bought Orange Box for Portal, and also to check out this Half-Life thing I'd heard of that seemed popular. I've played TF2 a grand total of once so far.

The fact that a lot more talking has been done about TF2 is probably less to do with the quality or popularity of the two games, and more to do with the fact that Portal has barely changed since it was released, but TF2, as I understand it, is constantly being twerked, and new stuff added. Also, Portal, being single-player, is pretty fixed-length... once you've played through it a few times, you've seen pretty much all there is to see... TF2, as a multiplayer game, always has another round you can jump into. So yeah, don't confuse amount-of-discussion-generated-over-long-term with quality-of-game or even popularity-of-game.

It's like a book you read when you were 14 that you will talk about without ever picking up again for the next 50 years. I understand the infatuation but I don't think there was nearly as much substance there as people make it out to be. "Best game ever made" is a big title for something that by most definitions wouldn't even classify as a full game! I'm not trying to troll here, I really enjoyed portal. I just don't want to see portal 2 turn out to be the next spore because of over-hyped lunacy.

That's fair, I just object to the idea that Portal must be the also-ran of the collection behind TF2 just because the latter is talked about more and has a more long-term community following it. Plenty of people bought Portal stand-alone, or as the main draw of the Orange Box, not just a side bonus, and it stood up fine.

Personally I think Portal deserved a very large majority of the praise and hype it got, and would definitely class it as a real game, despite the length. But both of those are opinions, and you're free to disagree with either.
