I was running away from the Balrog from LOTR, except it was as big as a 4 storey building.

It was one of those chases where you can easily outrun the big bad monster, but it has some way of tracking you and is always coming after you without resting.

Then of course came the classic "runing away dream" trope of my legs ceasing to work. Fortunately, I could still pull myself along the ground with my legs floating in the air behind me. But by this point, the Balrog had turned into a bunch of MIB who were trying to capture me because I'd escaped from some secret underground facility. I hid in a barn, but the owner ratted me out for a tenner.

I dreamed that I was at a house party in a small, suburban house. There was a band playing in the lounge room and Dangermau5 was doing a DJ set in one of the bedrooms.
Except when I went into the bedroom, Dangermau5 was lying on the ground and then a second Dangermau5 wearing a black mask instead of a red one came in and only played two songs. He then took his mask off to reveal that it was actually a girl. We sat on the bed and talked until the party ended and the band from the lounge room came in and asked me where I wanted to sleep.
I said I'd just have a look around and find some space to lie down. Wandering around the house, I saw every room was full of passed-out partygoers.
The dream then warped to me standing in the doorway of a busy train. As it pulled out of the station, the Dangermau5 girl came running down the platform and gave me a letter. I was looking at the letter, trying to find a name on it so I new whom to give it to when the girl jumped on the train and snatched the letter out of my hand, 'it's not for you! It's for him' she said angrily as she passed the letter to a random guy standing behind me.
As the train drove on I asked the girl if she was going to be ok and why she got on the train. She said she'd be fine then I woke up.

So I was in a dark house. And I guess it was one of those halloween type haunted houses. Only it was in an actual house, and as far as I could tell it wasn't halloween. So anyway, there were a bunch of those people that jump out from nowhere and scare you. And one of them did that to me. And so in order to try and avoid that, I crept along the walls, feeling them for people. I finally touched one. And at first I didn't really know what to do. But then they said something along the lines of "so you know how to move around in the dark too" (which I know I'm not remembering correctly, but it was something like that). But it was just some other person, not one of the scary people. And I could tell from their voice that they were a girl. And I have no idea why, but I said "kiss me." And so we kissed. And both irl and in the dream, I haven't kissed anyone yet. And I remember the kiss actually being really sucky and anticlimactic. But even so, I was excited about it. A couple seconds later, the lights all came on. And it turned out it was one of my friends (both in dream and irl), which was awkward. But even more awkward, she has a boyfriend (again, both in dream and irl). And I don't really remember what happened after that, but I think there was a bit more.

So I had a weird dream last night, apparently my dreams can be influenced by what I did during the day, which is weird because I was playing FFX and reading my PHB for D&D v3.5 before I went to sleep. But my dream took place in the Halo universe, which I'd just beat the campaign for ODST that night. Anyway, I was apparently an ODST Drop Trooper. I say apparently because that's what my hud looked like. And I had a combat shotgun and assault rifle, my prefered guns when playing multiplayer. So, anyway, I'm fighting the Covenant when I'm forced up a ladder in a construction site, and run across a steel beam and jump onto a higher platform. I then proceeded to use my shotgun as a boomerang, which is weird because I was trying to use it as a frisbee. And then it cut the steel cables holding up the steel beam. And then I woke up.

Everything was set at night and I was a collage student. I was sitting in history class with my high school english teacher and he told me to fetch me a steak for my ultra final test. So I ran out to get the steak at some other bulding down the way next to a river. I entered the river and there was that..ugh..that thing from lord of the rings. this thing. (not the orc)
Image

It was guarding the steak. I was all like, nah I'll get the steak later, so I went upstairs where I got shackled and had to copy papers. I escaped because I told the jailer guy that I was actually the ghost of Christmas past. I went downstairs and tried to get the steak again. Then I was like, screw it. So I went to some bookstore and checked out a steak. I brought it back to my teacher (who now was dressed in hawaiian get up) who gave me a piece of string as my grade.

I had a dream where I went to a baseball game with Sarah Palin. This game had quarters for some reason, and she shot a moose during half-time. That's what happens when the TV is on Good Morning America when you're asleep.

That same night, I dreamt that I had a perfectly normal day. Nothing weird happened, except that the car had never been invented. Everyone rode around on donkeys. I also met a kid from France who told me that he was my best friend. We couldn't understand each other, yet I had known him for 8 years.

I haven't had any memorable dreams lately, so I'll transcribe one of my older dreams from my Dream Log.

This one was first written down on January 19th, 2009 at 1:29am. It's a 'camera' dream where I'm not actually present in it, and it is as if I'm watching a movie.

It's dark. A white-suited man with a large blade, much larger and wider than a katana, casts his blade upon the ground next to a corpse (possibly fresh murder). He quickly walks off just as three people swim up to the scene (there's a annulus-shaped pool near the body; the center area has thick bushes). There is a woman out front and two guys in the back. The woman, who is scantily clad in a very revealing bikini, quickly exits the water to look at the body. (I do not know if she knows it's a body). Just as she does, the field of view rotates to the left. A siren is heard and red/blue cop lights flash in the darkness. Instantly I think, "It's a setup". When I focus back onto the three they are all somehow fully clothed and the pool has vanished and has become paved like a driveway. Both men are in suits, while the woman wears a white dress. The two men do not see the body still, but the woman slowly (but with great haste) creeps off to the left to avoid line of sight with the cops. The camera changes to follow behind the woman as she keeps out of sight from the two cops and their dog. When I focus to actually see the men from a vantage point almost behind the woman's shoulder I can see the two cops have them pinned on the ground. The cops' dog (not sure the type, I think German Shepherd) is just sitting there, not chasing the woman who is now my focus.

She is conflicted - she knows she is innocent but does not want to get taken in. Slowly she turns and walks away, but she thinks to put her hands up in surrender as she does so. She puts the bushes between her and the cops. She is ignored. A few paces out of line of sight, she drops her hands and picks up the pace. She turns off the circular path and into the pine bark and elephant ears surrounding the pavement. After walking through the 'garden', she comes to a generic green lawn. Gradually walking faster, she goes across the lawn. A bark from the dog is heard. She pauses and turns for a moment to look back towards the source. She notices no pursuers, and breaks out in a panic-filled sprint. Every few paces she looks back over her shoulder. The camera follows closely behind and I see it's now a suburban setting. To the left of her is the corner of the house. She runs onto more pine bark at the corner and takes one more look back - her face truly in panic.

I wake up. It's the only camera dream I've ever had (or at least that I can recall).

I had a dream where I was living in this big massive fancy house with a lot of people (some were people I knew but most weren't) and it was pretty awesome, except sometimes people were going missing. Then I discovered we were actually wooden people and there was an alternate universe of real people through one of the cupboard doors. Every month one of the wooden people had to be taken to the cupboard so that the real people would have something to use as firewood. If they didn't have anything they would try to come through the cupboard and kill us all. We had been using all the nastier people in the house but soon there were only three or four of us left. None of us wanted to go (obviously) and we felt that none of us could agree on who would go and it would just end up in a fight which nobody would win.

So we ran away from the house and discovered that outside was "real" too. We felt really out of place and nobody would let us stay. We ended up staying in a game store because the guy who owned it was pretty out of it on something and didn't care if we were there or not. That was when I woke up.

My dreams often do... Not sure if they'd be novels anybody would want to read because they are normally completely bizarre.

I dreamed I suddenly smoked a ton. Like, two packets in a couple of hours or something. I never held a cigarette to my lips in my life. Weird.

Then I dreamed I went to Japan with my dad and one of my brothers, as well as someone from school I haven't seen in years. But we only went for about a day and a half for a visit.

One of my dreams, I was at work, and I got a call from Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was a client of sunlife, and wanted me to stay on the line while he preformed some horrible illegal surgery on his friend, which he was trying to save. A full head transplant. It was illegal because, as Arnold put it "the medical establishment doesn't accept these dangerous things". He said it was fun, but he still wanted me on the phone for accountability sake. I was terrified he was going to kill this man, but I couldn't hang up.

He completed the head transplant, and of course it went wrong. The guy who's head was on a new body had major speech problems and was dying. At this point I got up the nerve to hang up. I then told my supervisor that I had just overheard Arnold killing a man on the phone. and they tried to go through HR and see what they can do. Then I get a call back saying that because I told someone, he's going to use his wealth to come and find me and kill me.

I was terrified to leave the building because I knew that, one day, Arnold would come after me and kill me, and there was nothing I could do. And no one really cared that I was going to be killed for something I had no control over.

Another dream last night, I was playing in this zombie tag game which started out with people burning down a movie theater, then trying to escape the zombies. We raided a supermarket and tried to get food before the zombies came. The game played over and over again. The zombies were just people who when they touched you you became one of them. It was interesting.

Another recent dream I had I was an elf, but one of the elves from dragon age: origins (in other words, oppressed and hated). I had recently realized I could go elsewhere, I tried to escape from wherever I was. I followed some train tracks to an all elf town. Of course, this was all modern-esque (the place didn't seem familiar, but there were roads and shops like normal). So I went into one of the stores, and it was an elf clothing store. I then tried on elf clothing which looked weird on the rack, but actually kind of fit me. Most of it was too small, but some of it was really awesome. I kept feeling like I had a deadline, like I had somewhere to be.

I dreamed that I kissed a really good friend of mine, someone who I never want to start a relationship with despite the fact that everyone thinks I'm in love with her.

I was in some sort of medieval city, not unlike Jerusalem in the Assassin's Creed game. For some reason, I had no shoes on as I wandered the streets. I found my slippers in a gutter somewhere, took my iPod out of my pocket and swapped my slippers for my iPod. I walked away, wearing the slippers and looking at my iPod, saying "I hope she's alright...".

I then found my boots next to a wall. I swapped my slippers for my boots and continued on. I then found my favourite Converse and swapped the boots for Converse. I wandered on for a bit, looking through cities and being scared of the other people in the city. I then thought that I had to get back before X time and then rushed around searching for my slippers, boots and iPod. They weren't where I'd left them, rather unsurprisingly, but I was so shocked that they were all gone!

I then found a wall with lots of shoes along its base. There I found my boots, with my slippers inside them, like the slippers were wearing the boots. Inside one of the slippers was my iPod, with a smiley face on the screen. I then took off my Converse and carried all three sets of footwear and iPod bundled up in my arms. That's where my dream ended.

I was dreadfully confused by this dream.

I can understand that.. but when you do kick around the idea of getting together, everyone will say I told you so.

I had a weird dream..

I was like driving or something and we stopped at this park or cemetery or something. I was with like 2 people I didn't know and my ex girlfriend(we were together in my dream). Well she left her phone somewhere or lost something so we were all searching and she just kept yelling.. Then we found it and idk how but we ended up at this huge mansion. It was a halloween party but very few people were dressed up. So as I was walking I saw Three Days Grace and they came up to me and was like hey and stuff and I was like. Oh me yarm you guys are amazing and they were like, come on. So I followed them to this huge room where basically everyone was drunk. The band started talking to themselves with stuff like "dude this is going to be so funny. He'll do whatever we want." and one guy was like "Lets make him be stupid." And then they started shouting "Chug chug chug" and I didn't drink.. but I just kinda disappeared. Then I was with this girl(who I like, but it will never happen) and we were talking and stuff. I hadn't physically seen her weeks. We haven't actually hung out or anything in months though. But we were just catching up and some weird way she like bent over and her arm was against mine. And then she like started talkign about somehting. She was like saying "We aren't together. We don't sleep together. We don't do the sleep in a bed together" or something really weird(which is something she might say randomly at times lol) and I was like "What!? Is that your way of saying we never have sex? " and we both laughed. And I just remember hugging her and wanting to kiss her. Then I went back over somewhere and I was with my ex girlfiend(together in the dream) and we were holding hands and she was like pulling me along to go somewhere. And we went through the row of seats that were crammed with people so that she could sit in the middle. She also had a teddy bear for some reason. Well we sat down and I noticed that a lot of people from my old church was there...

then I don't remember anything else so I guess I woke up

This is why cough syrup and crystal meth before bed is NOT a good thing.

Last night I had a dream where I was hooked up to a bunch of wires connected to a generator. These wires were going to shock me in 10 minutes, but they could easily be disarmed by changing the wallpaper on my computer. The problem: The only person in the room was my grandfather, who can't even get on the Internet. Somehow he ended up installing ubuntu on my computer, and then I exploded.

When I came to, I was in a mall where everyone was singing Christmas carols while holding flashing signs on a conveyor belt. I left to go build a spaceship (as everyone else does) and talked to my best friend who apparently speaks French. Then I went to Dillard's and rode the roller coaster in the lingerie department, where I subsequently 'projected' my breakfast onto my friend. But she was okay with it, so we slid down the track and bought shoes.

I only had 2 lucid dreams (3 if you count one where i realized it was a dream, so i said "I think this is a dream...slap me!" It didn't work, so I hunted down the friggin vampires that kidnapped one of my best friends....I was 8 )
From those two dreams, I only remember one well enough to talk about it: I was racing with my car in the street(something Id never do) , and I was in a huge accident. I wasn't injured. I realized it was all a dream. The police was on its way...There's no escape (Im in a tennis court), but...it's a dream!!! a very narrow road magically appears leading out of there, but Im not fast enough to get away from the police!!! I need a bike!!! A motorcycle appears!! woooo freedom. End of dream.

Car accidents where a recurring theme for some time...a recurring one was driving in the highway, and going really fast, scary fast...there's a curve ahead, but I cant make it, suddenly, Im in the sky and I see the car explode...I wake up.

Ive had lots of dreams about trains (or subways), sometimes, I need to catch the train, and run all around Buenos Aires trying to find the right station for the right train...

A recurring one was being in an inmense field of railways (the only thing you can see is parallel railways), which seems empty, but every time you step on a railway, a train comes at huge speed...Im constantly jumping from railway to railway, trying to survive...It gives you a whole new perspective on Frogger.
In an alternate version of this dream, I manage to get on the previously unexistent station, and realize theres a secret soccer field beneath it (not exactly beneath, its in a pit next to the station, but you can only access it from a staircase in the station)...I play some soccer and go back to the station...Im waiting for the train and casually step on the railway...then I remember the friggin trains...too late, here we go again.

Another train dream is about running inside a train for some reason, I don't remember this one...
Another recurring one is having to change from subway to subway constantly, the trains reach the next station in seconds, and i have to get down and get on the other train, that's already closing its doors...and then I have to get off that one and oh god its so crowded, and I can't make it to the next one....

God was inviting me and some family into his house for dinner. Unsurprisingly, in this dream, God was being played by Morgan Freeman and the back porch we were standing on looked exactly like the back porch of my parents' house, as did the back of the house. Once we walked in, though, we were in a completely unfamiliar kitchen. Nothing too lavish, and actually a bit run-down, but definitely a place I wouldn't mind staying in. So we stayed for a while, and put together some sandwiches...there wasn't a whole lot of food, but there was definitely enough, and for a while I imagined that this was eternity and, all things considered, it wasn't all that bad.

Of course, my mind gets bored with this after about ten minutes and decides to shift to something else. I'm still not entirely sure what was going on, but it felt a bit like a movie would if it was actually happening in real life around you, and I was a character in said movie. The only thing left over from the previous dream was Morgan Freeman's character, but there was a definite implication that he wasn't exactly who he had been claiming to be. At one point, there's a small group of people walking down a street with me, and Morgan turns from the conversation he's in to say "But he (referring to me) knows who I really am, right?" Then he winks at me, which is simultaneously the coolest and freakiest thing ever. (No, I don't know who he really was.) After that, all I remember is sitting in a house later that evening and listening to some pretty young girl pouring out her life story to me.

I'm not sure where it was going from there, but it looked like it was going to turn into one hell of a great movie if I could have stayed asleep for more than twenty minutes at a time last night.

I dreamt I made some things out of skulpy for my family and my mom hid them in a park for "me to find". She said she didn't like them and wanted a blanket or table instead and wondered why I had money.
It wasn't encouraging.

Cytoplasm: I have catoragized some of my family into lolcats.
Felstaff: For a drudging Thursday afternoon, that level of cuteness has really made my day. Can... Can I keep you?

I dreamed that everybody had a shopping cart as a pet and you got a remote for them so you had to learn how to drive them... I wasn't so good at this...

It sounds like some kind of anime, like pokemon or digimon, but with shopping carts...That could actually work (no, it wouldn't...)

I dreamed about trains again...they just won't leave me alone!

My sister tried to kill me, threw my computer down the stairs and walked around our parents' house angrily for a while.

I've decided to avoid her today just in case...

I dreamed I worked for/in the version of Hell in Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality series. I worked in Collections, to be specific....when people made wagers/sold their souls, we came to, well, collect. I was just a sub-intern though, or something. Still had to follow around someone more experienced than I was. Surprisingly, it was a fairly pleasant place to work. In fact, with all the partying going on, I was very confused about how anyone got anything done.
Dear xkcd,

On behalf of my religion, I'm sorry so many of us do dumb shit. Please forgive us.

Love, Aikanaro.

Ever have those dreams that are just so good that it makes you sad when you wake up? I just woke up from one.

Everything was perfect. Nothing was bizarre or out of the ordinary. I had everything that I was reaching for. But it wasn't that it was all handed to me, I felt the satisfaction of having worked hard to get all, and it make it so much easier to work towards the next set of goals. I was so happy. I was actually making progress and feeling very fulfilled.

And then I woke up. And remembered that things aren't that way. It feels like a step backward. Into a pitfall trap. It kinda hurts. But it's also kinda sweet.

I think I'm going to go do something. I haven't had any motivation like this in awhile.

Yeah - I've had several what I'd term 'realistic wish fulfilment' dream, where I'd succeeded at something I really wanted (got into some group/school/course I really wanted to get into, got with some girl I really liked, finished a tough/important project, &c.) - all well and dandy, makes for an awesome dream, although as you say it can be a little sad when you wake up and realise that this amazing event never happened. I've had a couple of dreams in my life that were like that, but even more annoying, because they (or at least the memories of them) were so realistic, I couldn't tell if they'd really happened or not for a while (sometimes several days). That's pretty depressing, when you spend a few days unsure if this awesome thing really happened - not quite believing, but really hoping it did - then you find out it didn't.

I went into a cupboard in my brother's room and found Thom Yorke in a studio. He played me an unreleased song on solo piano, and while he was playing and singing all these things happened with it, like lots of little cubes falling from the ceiling and the whole room filling with water. It wasn't a great song though.

When I left I asked him to give me something to prove it wasn't a dream, but he more or less said it was a dream. He gave me a pikachu stuffed toy anyway to stop me asking.

I had a dream that I was about to skydive out of a plane, but looked down and saw giant snakes below me, so I didn't want to jump. I may have been in a jungle place, too. That is what happens when you watch someone play Katamari right before bed.

I had a dream that I was talking with Mal Reynolds about all the reasons he hates fanfiction about him, while the rest of the Firefly crew acted out examples of terrible fanfiction in the background. It was an amazing dream.

I wish. It was hilarious.
Especially since every fanfic example seemed to included Simon and Kaylee making out somewhere in the background.

Oooo, weird dream. These are just the notes I typed up right after waking up, so they aren't exactly very cohesive.

Spoiler:
Alternate world that seemed to be far in the future. (It started as a dream about a game, project entropia, but then I fell asleep in the dream in my house for some reason).

We sent out search parties daily, but I was never in them, so I mostly got reports back about what happened.

Around 12-15 people that I recall, including my mom, dad, sister. Also a few people I don't know, such as a woman who wanted to save... something, and one or two children.

It was centered around my house, so many of the features were present, though it seemed that my house expanded to accomodate everyone in the group.

When I finally decided to leave the house (incidentally, when I found ruins, there were many of them connected oddly to our basement), I saw a beatiful landscape, dotted with architechure not entirely unlike that of the greeks/romans, though this seemed to be on an even greater scale.

Somehow I recieved knowledge of the timeline, both pre-post the "modern" age, I was unable to discern the amount of time between them, but it seemed to be a "flow" through many seperate ages, which would abruptly end and transition to a new age. I don't know anything about them, though I knew that we were in an age immediately following the modern.

**See attachment for diagram of ages**
Incidentally, there seemed to be lights moving along the diagram, through the ages as if to show possible flows.

Oddly, when I turned in a different direction, I saw hints of modern society, including a few moving cars (though, this was all sparse, not crowded) with drivers. I started to run in that direction and came upon people sitting in the back of their house.

These people looked like normal humans, and there was a small family of them (I recall a woman, male child, female child, though not specifically a father figure, but it seemed like a cohesive whole). When I tried to communicate with them I found they didn't speak english, though apparently they had learned some from conversing with others in my party.

Two vests that caused the wearer to become homicidal (we had to kill them), included both a woman who tried to run a large ridable lawnmower like device into a fueling truck, which would explode and kill everyone inside (which happened to be almost everyone in the party, don't ask where any of thes came from...?). We got everyone out and then used leverage from the doors of the van that survived the explosion to crush her. The other guy seems to have just gone crazy, but I only remember this vaguely.

Also, there was mention of food shortages, but I never noticed a lack of food available (though I never actually ate any).

Twoards the end of the dream, I gleaned more knowledge from the ruins, or something, and saw a pattern that coincided with the end of the age. Later on I found out that one of the members of my group created that symbol on a quilt (or other fabricy thing) and gave it to the family of non-english speakers that lived near us.

So, as far as I'm aware, we were the sign of the apocolypse, fun.

I had twice before had a dream wherein I was distracting guards etc. so that Jews could escape from death camps (though these were much lower security (straight barbed wire fence & about 1 armed guard every 25m)). Two people manage to cut out a huge section of the wire to help others escape before being gunned down. The next day, it's repaired and the whole perimiter is more secure (two barbed wire fences(!) and about twice as many guards. The section that was cut out now has 4 fences but nowhere else does) Anyway, there's a nearby power station or maybe it was some sort of plantation starts leaking noxious gas in fairly hefty quantities. Cue the escape. We walk across some fields and through a muddy wood and head down a slippery slope. The girl I'm walking next to (the only person I know in real life) steps on a pebble which then slips away and she dies.

Last night, I had the same dream but this time I grabbed the girls hand and watched every step she took. I helped her through the wood and was ecstatic that I'd managed to save her.

It was the best dream I've had in a long time.
