I'm a DOS password.

The long version could go on beyond the character limit, but that covers the basics. After years of voice chat confusion over pronunciation and definition, I solidified the shortened pronunciation of "gyroscope" and modified my definition to include both spinning and sandwiches. GyRo the Spinning Sandwich is something of a full title I guess... That's still probably more than you cared to know.
I came here to read a cool post, a witty dialogue, a fresh joke, but stumbled upon a "bump"...

I was using a spin-off of my name and then decided I didn't want that broadcast all over the Internet so I decided to go by something else and Flying Betty had a nice ring to it. No other significance.

Well, when I started off on internet forums, I found a user named Hitman_Hart and I always admired his intelligence, posting style, and generally power over the forums. Not only did he basically control everything on that forum without being a staff member, but everyone on that forum revered him as a dictator and never once tried talking back to him. I always wanted to be just like that so I started using his username, since it does look pretty cool. I don't actually like Bret Hart though; I just use this avatar as well because the original Hitman used it.

Felstaff is consistently awesomer than I, but far too new to have fully established himself.

I do not feel that awesome, and I know that I do not hold such high esteem or impunity.

I don't, do I?

Sleepygamer. . . too early to say, and that's your problem.

Mine comes from a running gag in my Physics class, where when asked on exams for an example of a digital signaling system, we always put down beacons (Spanish Armada and Lord of the Rings style). My normal username is Zickor but since that has no grounding in logic and intelligence, I decided not to have it.

Felstaff came to mind first because of his endless wit. He's like some kind of wit factory.

And I_D was next 'cuz she's epic.

Torvaun is pretty cool, but he's no raptor Belial.

I started with a list all possible alphanumeric characters and went through them in alphanumeric order.

The first one was available.....

0_o I could've sworn I posted here, but I can't find my post.

Anyway....

Mine can be obvious but not. When I was thinking of a username to use back in the mid 90s, I was also reading the X-wing series by Michael A. Stackpole. It was centered around Rogue Squadron, founded by Luke of course. I remembered he was red 5 in the original EpIV, so I went w/ Rogue5. Slap an underscore and a couple of letters, and I got Rogue5_jm. Turns out Rogue 5 in the X-wing series is Gavin, so that became my nickname.

A lot of people think it's an X-men reference, interestingly enough. While I do find Rogue to be a very interesting, I've never been too big of an X-men person.

I find it incredibly funny for you to have referred to I_D's postcount as an e-penis.

I think what I find most compelling about I_D is that, assuming everything she's said about herself is true, there would be damn near zero chance of us having any of the discussions we've had without internet intervention. Besides the geographical gap, she has a fear of my gender and major difficulty with conversation in general, and I have paranoia, introversion, and misanthropy keeping me from dealing with other people, let alone allowing them to learn potentially harmful things about me. The sheer unlikeliness of the thing makes it more special, I suppose.

I find that I_D has an energy that a lot of people connect to on these here fora. That's what makes her so damn popular.

@sleepygamer: I third the notion.

THE CONCEPT OF SNUGGLYBEAR CONFUSES AND INFURIATES US!

I can seriously do a good Lrr impression. I will record it someday. My voice (when Lrr-ing) is about a semitone or two out from Lrr's, but that's only because you don't really have control over pitch when you use the fire. And I just can't manage Lrr's voice using heat.

On-Topic: I've considered changing username SO many times, but I'm sure it's a hassle, and people would stop recognising me. And sleepygamer is a pretty cool username in the end.

Torvaun's avatar is a girl (or I'm making an epically exponantial mistake here), and yours is one of two bears.
Which brings us to the question: Does a somewhat smart and witty semi-old-member-of-these-fora-guy with a creepy woman/girl-avatar likes a relatively young-member-of-these-fora-guy with a two-cute-bears-avatar?

Yes, it's a girl. Specifically, it's Summer Glau from the R. Tam Sessions. No, I am not female. If it's confusing, I'll switch. And to answer your other question, no, I'm mostly just antagonizing him for sport.

As it appears I have yet to grace this topic with my presence, I will give my short soliloquy for the sake of completeness.

The prefix Dob- is a nickname I've always attached to myself, and one I derived at around age 5. Over the 13 years since then I've been known as many various derivatives of Dob-, some embarrassing, some annoying, some entertaining, others ridiculous.
"Sir Dobblesworth" was one I got given sometime in around 2005/06 by one member of my school year. I guess I took a shine to the regal aristocratic feel of it. So over here in xkcdfora I am Dobblesworth, your friendly neighbourhood Naga. I also use Lord Henry Hugh Dobblesworth as a guise to evade the authorities every once in a while.

I go by about 3 different aliases; v1ND, (the)flyinghippo, and Deuce.

Originally came from back in the days when I played Halo PC. Focused on sniper the most part. Vindicare is from WH40k and is like some uber-sniper guy so yeah I used V!ñD!C@Ré or something to that extent. Latter I shortened it to just v1ND.

Flying Hippo came out of some conversation with a friend back in grade 6-ish. Starting to use this one less.

Deuce came from when I played Guild Wars. Joined my first competitive guild and they already had a guy named Mike so since I was the second Mike I became Deuce.

I think I've posted my fora-username, but it occurred to me that I actually use a different name on steam with a completely different origin. A friend of mine mentioned that someone somewhere had used an upside down Anonymous as a username, which was awesome. So I set about digging up characters for an upside down version of "upside down", and I used that as my CSS name for a while (uмop әpιsdn). I thought it was awesome, so it stuck. Most games don't support the characters though, so it's kinda limited. It's always fun when people say "Oh, so THAT'S what it is" after playing for a few hours.
