Your Life Goals

Postby The Scyphozoa » Sat May 22, 2010 4:51 pm UTC

The interesting ones, that is. List yours here.
EDIT: There seems to be some confusion. When I said "interesting", I meant "over the top".

-Leave a stopwatch at home and bring one in a car, and drive fast enough long enough so as to see at least a 1 second difference due to relativity.
-See this one girl I knew, who I would describe as "evil nerd witch", drunk. Likely never going to happen, but I have speculated that, when drunk, she would acquire lasers in her eyes, because she is that evil.
-Revolutionize the gaming industry. And I mean bloody revolution.
-Freak the hell out of some secret organization.
-Your mom.
-Lie down on the top of Mount Everest, with an erection, and say, "Better add another foot to that height reading."
-Restart a meme that everyone has completely forgotten about, and have it catch on as if it's new.
-Divide by zero.
-Donate money to Chuck_Norris, and watch the Internet's outrage.

Make a big difference in the life for many people (like at least 50 or more)
Make a short film
participate in Free Hugs event
do Urban sports (youtube - Neg's urban sports, from Balls of steel TV program)
Join the Mile High Club
Make an awesome band with someone

And a wild and unlikely one:
Participate in arranging a Live AID 2.0 (just cos its such a good idea)

Didn't have one yet, so I'm making this right now.

- Racing against Dexter Holland from the Offspring with his brand of hot sauce as prize. And not a regular race. But a Walrus race.
- Do hippie things.
- Meet random people on a random way to go on random adventures and to eventually become president of Chile.
- Walk around in a lobster suit for a legimate reason.
- Learn to do the dance from the video of ONE by Yeasayer.
- And as least, a boring but serious one, learning to play an instrument.

President of Chili, eh? Sounds tasty.

Oh! You must have meant Chile.

Both is good too.

Edit: Also, in my defense: in our barbarian country it's spelled like Chili. Didn't occur to me that it was different in english.

Good fucking plan. Right, there that one is.

Except I've got no clue who wrote my history text book... hmm. Perhaps not the instant route to fame I thought.

Well, the idea occured to me as a history teacher wrote a part of the history book we used in our 4th year. It made a sort of celeberty in our school.

My interesting realistic goals are:
1. Work a year or two or three abroad.
2. Go back to Japan at some point.
3. Do a big trip around the US (or at least visit a lot of it).
4. Experience zero gravity (not one of those falling plane thingies) - I'm convinced this will be possible within the next 30-40 years, so I'll be able to try it. Not sure if I'd be allowed to go when I'm 80. :)

Get a PhD/DPhil/MBBS/MBChB (i.e. earn the right to a Dr. prefix),
Paddle all Three Grand Canyons (Verdon, Colorado & Stikine)
Climb one of the 8000+ metre peaks,
Have at least one child,
Get aforementioned child to be as curious as me.

Of those I expect to easily achive all but Paddling the Stikine and Climbing an 8000 metre peak, both of which require the kind of commitment that precludes settling down until you're already old and grey (or the world's most understanding partner, preferably both).

I'm also very tempted to include "Serve in HM Forces", I don't know why but I feel quite strongly that I ought to, I don't know if I'm suited to it either... but I still think I ought.

Dunno. I tend to live in the moment, aimlessly stumbling down the path of least resistance.
I edit my posts a lot and sometimes the words wrong order words appear in sentences get messed up.

-Read Ulysses by James Joyce. It is standing on my bookshelf like the monolith in 2001:A Space Odyssey.
-Have a child(children).
-Make a dinner so good, that it makes people cry of pleasure.
-Run a marathon.
-Grow a beard, a big one.
-Do something that will actually matter in society.
-Skydiving.

And however I may go, I want to have some cool last words that will leave people around my body in awe!

(1) Design and build my own futuristic, energy-efficient, and aesthetically pleasing house.
(2) Write an insightful book under a pseudonym and enjoy all the controversies it generates.
(3) If I have kids, not to screw them up.
(4) Not to outlive my money.

Notice the progression to less ambitious...

I want to be the manager of an inn with a hot spring where all of the occupants are cute females.
I want to pilot a fearsome mech and cause the end of the world.
I want to cook bread so delicious that the person eating it dies of delight.
I want to be a bad-ass ninja.
I want to be the very best, like no one ever was.

Alright, so first off allow me to say that i am the first to acknowledge the sheer impossibility of what i am about to say.
But I figure someone has to do it eventually and we are overdue for a world-changing invention so:

I want to be the real world equivalent of Tio Holtzman, oh but actually do my work instead of taking the credit from some other person. Basically I want to be remembered throughout all of history for something good, and, aside from literature(at which i suck), the only thing I could do that would do that would be to bridge the gap between humans and the stars.

Also +10 internet cookies to those who get this reference at all.
Also, please don't mock my incredibly unachievable goals.

Many claim they want to be the first person to do something great, but not me. I want to be the last person to do something mediocre like eat a twinkie, play with a yo yo, or fire a magnum at a bear. The goal I'm working towards now is getting into a career I enjoy.

- Build a Nissan 240SX that will do at least 200 Miles per Hour.
- Play a guitar solo that melts so many faces, it'll be referenced in history texts as "The Second Holocaust" (I see this one as the most impossible.)
- Build a computer that requires the use of two 220 Volt power outlets.
- Rent an awesome hotel room, and not stay in it.
- Fly around the world.
- Join the mile high club, while flying the plane.
- Travel at a speed greater than Mach 3.

Audition for the part of Freddy in a production of My Fair Lady. Getting the part would be nice, but auditioning would be adequate.
Perform a public recitation of the first two pages of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Maybe for another audition.
Write a 50,000-word novel. Getting published, of course, would be a different matter.
Watch all of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Do a 100K bicycle ride.
Have a vaguely meaningful short-term relationship with someone of the opposite sex.

I don't know that I'd even want to use Dr anyway, just earn it. Plus the two specialties I'd like to go into (Pathology [unsure as to chemical or histological] or Epidemiology) are both likely to give me ample opportunity to get a proper doctorate too.

1. Make decent money selling my photographs/prints and canvases
2. Get signed to a record label that I don't want to mention for whatever reason. Right now I'm at stage 1: learning the fundamentals of music. It'll be a long road.
3. Visit Japan
4. Go skydiving
5. Win the lottery so all of the above becomes easier

John Glenn did it at 77. I don't think you'll have to worry about your age, especially not in 30-40 years.

Isn't/Wasn't Abu Dhabi planning a Mile High tower, which definately makes me think achiving a "Mile High Club Double Crown" would be a worthy goal.

I plan on becoming immortal and to adquire as much knowledge as i can in the remaining lifespan of the universe. Maybe I'll eradicate humankind in the process, just for entertainment. All through nanoscience!!! (working on it atm, getting a degree on physics. I you (humans) are still here in like, 80 years, I failed.)
Whilst at it:
-Make big money selling patents of my lesser inventions to corporations. (on it atm)
-Creating my own pc with a core of rats' brains. And get it to work with vista.
-Adding AI to same and calling it CABAL.
-Build a plasma cutter 100 times the power of a industrial one. Just for sights.
-Get someone to scratch my back.
-Get more more efficient at acquiring knowledge. (Yeah, top priority right now)

Think of them as unreachable/nonsense if it makes you comfortable. I do that, sometimes. ^_^
Also, they are goals.

Sorry, edited: some (a lot) spelling mistakes and last claim. It didn't deserve another post.

Currently my goal is to get my IW- papers (International Welder). After that I think that I'll try to apply to a robotics course, because robots with plasma and/or laser cutters are awesome.

In no particular order:

-Design strong artificial intelligence, raise one, and get it equal rights in the US.
-Help people with stuff.
-Get a book published (but not the one I've already written, that one's kinda meh).
-Get a girlfriend one of these days.

Well. We got something as cool as our fingers and fine motor skill and we turn it into huge metal tubes flying.
a) Of course we're gonna fuck in them,
b) We should do more amazing, cool things with our horniness.
