Heh. I helped move the couch anyway, and I only used my one arm. It was one of those hide-a-bed jobbies. I used my free hand to open doors and whatnot.

Those things are heavy as all fucking get out.

We moved one on Tuesday, and after having three people to get it off the truck bed, we found we couldn't, using those same three people, get it up the stairs. We had an emergency phone a friend moment, and it is thankfully now in our living room, but geeeez. The couch we got rid of, the over 8 ft long one? I moved that shit by myself without an issue. The sleeper sofa? *roundly defeated*

Ah, sofa beds are very heavy. When I moved house last, I could shift the normal sofas unaided, but I remember helping move a bed-settee a while ago and it was very heavy.

ISHTST: A draining board should slope towards the sink. The idea is that any drips run into the sink and go down the plughole, not that they collect at the end of the draining board and sit there to go stagnant.

Derrr. Now I feel like an idiot. I need a freaking dishrack. My dishwasher is a piece of crap and doesn't work, so I wash them manually. The problem is I'll wait until I have no clean dishes, so I use my dishwasher as a dishrack, and still not have enough room. I need an extra one, and $4 is easily affordable. Or I could go look at a new dishwasher. I don't care what it costs(within reason). If I take the time I spend doing dishes and put it into other housework, my house would look way better.

Wow, that should have been in the fleeting thoughts thread.

When I moved from my studio apartment to our more real apartment, I was so so so thankful to have a dishwasher. It is so wonderful. Also wonderful: having my own washer and dryer.

That people apparently don't have dish draining closets (<- Wikipedia article; another picture) much at all outside Finland is just odd. It's just really convenient.

Apparently, William the Conqueror started the whole lions thing, because two golden lions passant was the symbol of the Duchy of Normandy. Because lions are quite French...

You can't expect us colonials to know about stuff like that though.

The lion thing is not that bad. There was a Swedish history revisionist in the 19th century (IIRC, may be slightly earlier) trying to prove that the classical world was located in Scandinavia instead of the Mediterranean, as the notion of dark haired people from down there being mighty Romans clashed with notion of Sweden as a mighty empire that was bound to be related to Rome.

well, it's a drawing of a lion on a coat of arms with a sword through its head. It probably isn't clever enough to get the joke, and even if it was, it'd be busy trying to get the sword out of its head.

My point was that the joke is how the lion looks like it's stabbing itself in the head (which it really does). While I completely agree that calling something "retarded" or "special" because it may be viewed as idiotic isn't right, the idea behind it isn't to mock the disabled, just the lion.
