I love the mods here!

Postby superglucose » Wed Sep 24, 2008 10:32 am UTC

I've been to forums where the mods are unhelpful assholes who's only purpose is to force you to adhere to a strict set of rules, or ban you for their epenis. I've been BANNED for saying "effing" which is apparently considered a bannable offense for bypasing their profanity filter. No warning either.

The mods here though are nice, and for the most part are either really cool people I agree with. The rest are really cool people I disagree with. I dunno who picks the mods, but A+ job. I can't think of a mod on this forum I would say is unfair or unreasonable, and all of them are interesting or funny in at least one of their own special ways.

It reminds me of the chat moderators on Kingdom of Loathing.

Hopefully nothing bad, though I'm not surprised I'm getting teased. I was going to just private message them all, but I couldn't find a decent list. And I wanted to show my appreciation, and as I like it when people say nice things about me...

I'd like to expand the title a little and say 'I love the people here'.

This is the first forum that have kept me posting more than a few days, even though I still lurk more than I post.

Fearbears!? jokes aside, the first thing I thought of when I saw the thread title was "Boom de yada, boom de yada..." and it made me smile as that ad and that comic always do.

This is the only forum where those who hate me (90% of all active users) don't voice it or ban me. So yes, everyone is pretty nice :-).

I just came here to say I don't know any of you people.

Maybe you should buy me lunch so I can get to know you better?

On another note though, I will say that modding isn't easy. Don't do enough and you're too lenient, do too much and you're power tripping to support your epenis (epenis, I like that phrase and will have to steal it).

So on that note, seeing a group of happy people here gives me hope that maybe I can fit in here and have some fun wasting time.

Heh, heh, heh. Fearbears?! jokes. Heh. What's more amusing is that people have to search to find out who he actually is.

Also, I never really had any problems with Fearbears?!, I think he was pretty much inactive while I was going about Just Not Getting ItTM. I had problems with other mods, though, and now I see them all as [reference to cool.

Mods on xkcd aren't perfect, as they're all most definitely human beings. But I will say that I've been on a lot of fora in my day, and if nothing else these ones stay clean and don't have a lot of drama. And what drama there is doesn't usually erupt into the forum at large.

I was going to suggest that his title should be changed before you posted that, but I think that having them try to find where Fearbears?! is mentioned is much more entertaining.

And I want to agree that the mods are good here. Not that I'm trying to suck up, but they do a good job and I like how they stay active in discussion without either being overly forceful in their mod powers or ignoring any issues that require their attention. A few people don't seem to like the mods, but I don't see why. Good job.

18,000? Eighteen Fucking Thousand??? Holy Christ. Wasn't it just last month when you were passing the 10,000 mark?

Also, I don't know if the mods had any say in this, but the perpetual limitation of what can be discussed in General by the creation of sub forums left and right and the subsequent starting of EVERY topic with a "sorry if this is in the wrong forum" kind of annoys me. So I guess the mods can be anal/overbearing sometimes but I'd agree that on the whole they're pretty cool. In fact, I think it's a requirement to be chosen.

See, this just stems from a difference of philosophy. Where you might think General is the "main forum", the stated opinion of the administration is that General is the catch-all for things that don't belong anywhere else, which is a situation you want to try and minimise normally.

Also, this belongs in S/F I. :P

i like the bods here too,
not too many encounters with them but the few i had were relatively pleasant.

And now in curious, when did these mere mortals reach the golden banana that gave them their modly powers? did they lose an arm/leg defending Randal from a raptor attack? I'm not seeking to join the brotherhood of mods, I'm just curious on the credentials of the current mods.

Look, the problem with mods being nice is that they can't pull off a convincing forum drama april fools joke. On other forums it might actually have tricked people and been damn funny, but here? Bah.
