This is sand

Postby Peter_G » Sat Aug 02, 2008 10:45 pm UTC

http://thisissand.com/
I found it on the toolbar thread as someones bookmark, and I just spent the last hour on there trying to make the letters xkcd, it didn't go well. First person to make the letters xkcd on there wins! (nothing) It's really addictive.

No, I figured out how to do it without all that. I'll post the result in a few minutes when I finish.

Sorry guys. After spending four or five hours working on it, and have beautiful big letters spelling out "xkcd.com" across the screen, firefox crashed while I was drawing a picture of "powers of one" underneath. Damn Firefox 3! Anyway, I can tell you that I'm not going to stay up the rest of the night trying again until they put a feature in to let you edit your work after you've submitted it.

'tis easy. The thing lets you insert sand into the middle of already laid sand. So I just made a white mount, and then wrote "xkcd" in it holding down the mouse pointer. 1 minute later...

And yes, it probably is cheating. I don't care.

While cool, it reminds me of a more primitive version of this:

No, not cheating. That's the way I was doing it when it crashed. It was gonna be awesome too.

I got this far http://thisissand.com/gallery/#/15054 I then went to sleep for a bit, woke up and realized I had the attention span of a 3 year old and quit.

I got as far as an X. It was a very pretty X. Perfect X, really.

It took up the entire page.

I realized there was a slight problem.

Okay, I tried without "cheating" (just laying the sand down as it fell, mostly because I had no idea how to do otherwise). Spoiler'd because it wouldn't let me submit.

You... You've just stolen the last hour of my life, you villain.
I'm a wizard. We know these things.

In war, one should seek to take and hold the high ground. From there, the enemy's movements are clearly visible, and he will struggle just to reach you, let alone fight you. High orbit is the highest ground there is.

Wohoo. I just wasted 25 minutes filling the entire screen with black sand. What do I win?
I edit my posts a lot and sometimes the words wrong order words appear in sentences get messed up.

Best. Fun. EVAR!

I think I wasted a good 30 minutes with that one. It's fun to make stuff explode. The colors, children, the colors.
