"It bothers me when people open doors for me just because I'm female" is not a complicated concept. There is nothing in that statement that's hard to understand. So when you point that people also open doors for men and that you need to know how many of the doors were held because I was female, then no, you are not just "trying to understand". You are in fact questioning the veracity of what I have told you. You are suggesting that perhaps everyone who holds the door would have done so anyway, and that nobody ever does it just because I am female. You are suggesting that I am imagining things. You are suggesting that I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about. You are failing to listen, and failing to take me seriously. And when you get offended that I've called you out on that, you are, in fact, making this all about you.

Someone should really make some kind of hardware that stores enough power for a computer to stay alive for.. 1 minute, in the case of a power failure. And optionally we can set scripts to run when it kicks in.

I mean, really. I'm happily using my laptop when the power dies and everything around me shuts down... Sans my laptop and phone. It takes me a few seconds to realize there was a blackout (previously, whenever a blackout happens, my hands freeze on the keyboard and I really, really wished I hit ctrl+s earlier). After a lightbulb moment of "wow batteries are cool", I resume typing... only to realize I just lost my unsaved 3d model on my desktop.

Come on, how much would it take to power a comp for a few minutes?

I love big compiles, but I hate sooooo much when they bomb right at the end. And usually its because of a memory error.

In related news, I need to get my PC re-imaged by the IT guy but I don't really want to wait through all that.

Shit I don't know - How much of SteaX's rant was jovial making fun of themself for not buying a UPC already and how much of that was simply being unaware such magical devices exist.

... No, I didn't know there were actually reliable ones in existence nowadays. This is what happens for me not catching up on hardware.

/sits in corner, pulls out phone and searches

Well to salvage some self-esteem, I used to have one of those backup power unit thingies (between the hardware and outlet, so all other devices there would stay alive for a bit), but it apparently doesn't instantly switch - there's a millisecond delay that still killed everything.

Ive had two hamsters in my life. I regret not trying to find out how much power a hamster wheel can generate. :(

It depends on how willing you are to mutate your hamster into a godly-power-inducing machine.

Mutation was not necessary for the second hamster. Its mother was already a mutant, like 9 inches tall when standing and a good 4-5 inches around.

Dude in question wasn't doing the door thing, just being less-than-understanding when I was trying to explain what his privilege means. Dude is awesome in many ways, just doesn't get this yet. The more privilege one has, the more threatened one feels by the concept, but in this case I hope to eventually get the point across, since dude is my husband.

Will probably find something eventually, but this is annoying.

I'm tired of the parental units in my life acting like children. My father's longtime gf is an insane drama queen who can never accept when it's not all about her. I'm tired of her using the "your father is mad at you" line on me when she actually means "I'm mad at you because you didn't consult me before planning the rehearsal dinner." She also doesn't even have the balls to tell me directly when I've hurt her delicate feelings, she sends other people to tell me.

I'm going to call my father to see just how mad at me he really is and I'm pretty sure his response is going to be along the lines of "I'm mad about who in the what now?"

On a similar note, I'm quite worried about my mother. She spends most every waking moment charging round trying to do everything perfectly for other people, never thinks to do anything for herself, and deals with the stress through private passive agressive meltdowns. She also has terrible pains in her knees and ankles, incapacitating migraines, and high blood pressure; yet refuses to go to the doctor because a doctor once shot her down years ago.
I try to help her with all her comitments, but most of it involves driving, and she always seems to find more work to obsess over instead of taking a break.

RANT ABOUT MY MATH EDUCATION:

I'm in Pre-calc right now. I was doing calculus (differentiation, integration) a good 2 years ago... that was from my dad. Since then, I've taught myself all the standard (appearing in a Calc class) ways of doing integration; I've taught myself how to solve many different classes of ODE's (partly from my dad, partly from a book). I've learned partial derivatives, and a good deal about solutions to PDE's (mostly numerical, albeit). Then, I got a textbook about number theory... so far I've read through half of it, and I'm doing the exercises.

I'm in Pre-calc right now. I wanted to do Calculus 1 - the highest offered at my school - but my counselor wouldn't let me, for fear of it somehow ruining my social life/making me hate math/lolwut?

I hate this. So, so, much. :x And I have, of course, for years... I've just been thinking about it lately and I was getting pissy.

At least Calc was offered at your school. The highest math I had was "advanced" algebra and an intro to Unit Circle Trig course.... :@

I need to pass my Maths exam on Wednesday to get into Uni next year, this will be my third attempt at it. I'm spending most of my waking hours trying to get better to absolutely no avail. It's so intensely frustrating I have to take breaks at 30 minute intervals to rant about it.

sympathy. when i was in 7th grade i tested into algebra 1. they put me in pre-alg because '7th graders don't take algebra 1" i'm sorry but this test said 7th graders can, so why the fuck not. i believe this screwed up my math education for the rest of my life.

Freaking conservative governor. Ok, I understand (and agree with!) the need to reduce the budget. But, of all the things you could cut, you really pick the schools and the arts? WTF is wrong with you? There are all sorts of wasteful things we could be getting rid of, but instead you screw with our future. I guess less educated people are more likely to vote for you.

It's 'fight or flight', not 'fight, flight, or shitting oneself'.
