Rargh! Why am I such a procrastinator! I have 5 days to do my summer homework, and in that time I have to:
Read a book
Read a play
Write 2 papers
Finish 4/5 packets

Why can't I ever get myself to actually do this stuff on time!

I am currently disliking the whole anti-IQ-test sentiment among people I see around. They're pretty damn good as far as things go. You saying that "Oh, it's not really testing intelligence, it's just testing whether you're good at the questions they ask" is about as useful as, say, "Orienteering competitions don't test navigation or survival skills. They just test whether you know the area". It also shows that you fundamentally misunderstand how science works. The whole damn thing is testing intangible concepts based on whatever small effects they have on the world. Measuring intelligence is the same thing.

Please actually learn a bit about how the tests are constructed and what the history behind them are. Then go and hate at the Myers-Briggs test.

If the patch did not fail, you probably forgot to check the tyre for sharp objects.

Turns out, the first patch had crimpled, so was releasing air.

So, I take it off and use a another patch, a normal one. (first one was self adhesive)
Next day, the two types of glue had eaten away each other and the patch just fell off, flattening my tyre in seconds...Just as I'm leaving for work.

Thankfully, its all sorted now though...

I know that I left the planning a little late and yes it is quite far to travel but its my 25th birthday! Quarter of a century old! I travelled across the country on a days notice for your birthday! And that was just a run of the mill 24th! You're one of my oldest and best friends, you know that if you asked I would come to you right now but you're "a bit busy" to come to me!? Grrrr!

Also, they're not just for measuring smarts. The Wechsler test is used in Aspergers diagnosis, by looking at the pattern of cognitive strengths and weaknesses in the dozen or so different test components. The actual score is irrelevant in this case.

So I have not been sleeping well at all lately. Three days last week I woke up at 4 AM, and ended up reading a book because I had no chance of falling back asleep. I also have been going to bed around 10, and usually not falling asleep until after midnight.

Last night was more of the same. Climbed into bed at about 9:30, and read for about half an hour. Couldn't sleep, and finally tried moving down to my couch. Read there a little bit, and fell asleep some time after midnight. I then slept in until 10:15 AM, and woke up realizing I was three hours late for work. I panicked and got all upset that I was so late for work. I then woke up, and saw that it was still 4 AM.

OTC sleeping pills haven't helped, so I got a doc to prescribe something else. I guess I'll try them tonight.

Nothing like as bad, but I made the mistake of drinking a pint of cola at about 11pm last night, when I had an 8am meeting today. Couldn't get to sleep for hours - I'm really sensitive to caffeine - so I only got a few hours sleep (my own fault, of course, but that doesn't make me feel any less terrible today).

That 'dreaming you woke up late so you actually wake up way too early' thing is really annoying though.

Is nothing I do enough for you people? I drove a total of 22 hours, 1800 miles, and spent ~$200 just so you would have someone there to help move you into college. After carrying a fridge, TV, computer, microwave, and everything else you own, you completely ignore me for the next day when I'm there. Oh, except when you need help carrying books. Sorry I dropped a few, you only had about 8 books that probably weighed 80 pounds total.

Fuck you. I'm done trying to help people.

Blergh

I hate people, I was supposed to get a delivery of ~110 crates of beer this morning, but since we have switched keys, I needed to be here. So I told the nice lady on the phone that I would need them to deliver after 10:00 (since I worked till three in the night last night), and they should call me half an hour before delivery.

8:28 in the morning:

We're here now, where the hell are you? No, there was nothing on our paper saying we should call ahead

I don't know enough chemistry to work out what you are doing! So just play nice and stop ruining my result!!! All you do is make a mess and expect me to clean up after you.

And Excel!!! Why can't you just accept that many users need more than 32000 data points? Origin can do it. Why can't you? Are you mentally deficient? Have you not been through enough incarnations to be useful? You make me so mad I COULD USE CAPS LOCKS!!! AND THAT'S PRETTY MAD!

You might want to upgrade to Excel 2007 or 2010. They both can handle more than 32000 lines. I believe there are cheap student versions available.

Marriage isn't everything. Or even that big of a thing. It's certainly not the only thing. I'd much rather be happy and unmarried than the inverse of that.

Of course, being both happy and married is a pretty sweet deal... but the marriage part of that is incidental, I guess. I'd be equally happy in an unmarried state with my wife. Marriage just gives me tax fun.

Well I wanted to have kids by age 30 and enjoy married life for a couple years before getting pregnant. I don't want to have to be a single mother or have kids late in life, but it's kinda looking that way at this point. Adoption lists are so long... maybe I could get lucky and find a dumpster baby, like the gang in Always Sunny.

I'm fucking weary of wasting months/years on people who end up too emotionally damaged to be dateable.

Just because a system has a finite number of states and endless time does not mean it will run through every possible configuration, eventually. It is possibly to flip a coin an infinite number of times and always get heads. It's unlikely, the probability (for a fair coin) of such an event is zero, but people don't understand that when talking about infinite time, zero probability doesn't mean impossible, it just means "unlikely to happen".

My rant today is about the dvd industry. "What's wrong with that?" you ask. "What's NOT wrong with that?" I reply.

Let's start with the easy one: inferior versions. I don't know if this is a big problem in the rest of the world, but it is in Belgium. There's a ton of dvds out there with bad image quality, incorrect aspect ratio, dubbed audio,... The good thing is: they're almost exclusively from the independent publishers, so one could just avoid those. BUT it's not al their dvds that are wrong (maybe 10%), and they're the only publishers of that particular movie in the country. (To be fair, it isn't that bad anymore. Almost all (all?) of their latest releases are good, but the bad ones are still out there). "So buy it on Amazon." you say. Yeah, I'll come back to that.

Second one: different versions. This one's more about the movie industry in general. I hate the fact that there's more than one version of one particular movie out there. I can (barely) live with a Director's Cut that adds 5 minutes of extra, non-important footage. What I can't live with is cuts that change the ending (Butterfly Effect, 1408), cuts that change the interpretation of the movie (Blade Runner), cuts that change the style of the movie (Léon), digitally altered versions (f*ck you Lucas!) and, the one I hate most, cuts because of censorship (what's up with the hate for nunchucks, UK?). And I could live with all of them (except the last one, NO TO CENSORSHIP!) if they would just put both versions on the dvd. And if they can't do that, at least release both versions.

Third and last one: dvd regions and subtitles. So I could just fix the above problems by ordering my dvds from Amazon. That would work great, were it not for the fact that a lot of UK dvds don't have any subtitles. I don't need Dutch subtitles, English ones are fine (I even prefer English ones), but they don't even have those (it has to be very hard being deaf in the UK). The US doesn't seem to have that problem, but they've got 3 others. 1: shipping over seas is rather expensive. 2: Europe is region 2, US is region 1 (my laptop is region-free, but I prefer watching movies on my Xbox360). 3: CC. Non-US dvd players can't read the CC info. Also, sometimes when it says CC, it actually is a normal subtitle track, so you can't just ignore all CC-dvds.

Biggest problem is, I only learned about those problems rather recent. Now, I have almost 600 dvds, that's too much to manually check which ones are good and which ones aren't. So I can't tell what dvds are inferior, or only have one version of the movie. Or, more important, which one's aren't/haven't.

I used to be rather proud of my dvd collection. I'm not anymore.

I may have fucked my chances of staying in university up. Badly. This means I'll have to get a job. And I won't be able to hang out with people of a similar age and with the same interests. And I won't be able to make myself feel smart by reminding myself I'm studying physics.

ARHGHGHHG.

On the other hand, the more time I spend on this computer, browsing the internet, the further away all that feels. I think that, as long as I can get me a job that pays for my living costs and broadband, I might be alright.

Being a female senior in high school for me is not full of "GRRRR TEEN ANGST I HATE MY PARENTS BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T BUY ME A BMW RAAAAAAAWWWRRR!!!", but more like full of me being a 35 year old trapped in an 18 year old body.

Here's apparently what happened. After 8th grade, I got cute. Or something. At least attractive enough to where I have to be groped in the halls by horny boys every time class gets out.

If I had to count the times I have to say "KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF ME" or "Seriously! I'm not ticklish so STOP TOUCHING ME", I'd be very rich.

I can't wait till I graduate. I hate teenagers.

I did notice that my Word 2007 wouldn't do something the other day until I realised I was editing a .doc in compatibility mode. Saved as .docx and the new feature worked.

@Ithinkabouttrees: groping someone is sexual assault. You should try to get concrete evidence of it (e.g. by surreptitiously recording the event). Take this evidence directly to the police; don't bother going to school staff. If you're lucky, you can get those bastards thrown in jail, and perhaps you can even drag some school staff down with it for failing to ensure the safety of their students.

@bentheimmigrant: MS Office (along with most other MS products) is shit. Ditch it at the first opportunity you get. Even OpenOffice Calc is usually better than, or at least as good as Excel (and even OpenOffice is quite crappy).

Correcting people in a rant thread, oddly enough, really doesn't help much when you're wrong! This is a rant thread. I'm not going to communicate properly because I'm ranting. And now I'm ranting about people in the rant thread. What is this world coming to?

As a high school teacher, shut the goddamned hell up. We don't magically know this stuff happens. At the moment her safety is not in jeopardy, she still has recourse she can take, and if she were to take it to a teacher (esp. a female one) I'm sure the problem would get dealt with. If they THEN don't do anything, then sure, start lining them up for the firing squad, but given the description/current situation, the teachers don't deserve to be fired at all.

Edited for language. I don't feel like being banned for defending my job.
Why is it that 4chan is either infinitely awesome, infinitely bad, or "lolwut", but never any intermediary level?

My bad. I saw "lines" and then "wrong", and didn't go back to read the OP that said "data points".

This post had objectionable content. (Content stabbed by user.)

In retrospect, I came across as an asshole. I guess I was extremely unfair to teachers in general, and I'm sorry for that. I have no excuses; I was being an asshat and I retract my statements about school staff. Sorry.

It is possibly to flip a coin an infinite number of times and always get heads. It's unlikely, the probability (for a fair coin) of such an event is zero, but people don't understand that when talking about infinite time, zero probability doesn't mean impossible, it just means "unlikely to happen".

See, I always thought of it as "infinity" being the point at which the probabilities of each outcome happening become the same as how many times they've happened. As in, flip a coin infinity times, it WILL get 50% heads and 50% tails (whatever 50% of infinity may be). Roll a die infinity times, each number will be rolled exactly 1/6 of infinity times. And stuff like that.

Rant: I do not want any "Share this!" or "E-mail this!" buttons in any webpages! Do you think I am too dumb to know how to copy and paste the address bar? It's even worse if it's in a corporate site. What are you, a professional company or an entertainment site? Do they just want to be "more 2.0"?

Read a book
Read a play
Write 2 papers
Finish 4/5 packets

Why can't I ever get myself to actually do this stuff on time!

Happens to me too! I haven't worked in all summer (and I should be working now).
I have discovered that immediately after I start working I have the temptation to go do something else, and then once again after 6-7 minutes, but if I can resist those temptations, I can keep working continuously for almost 50 minutes!

WRONG!
You wot? That link specifically says "1,048,576 rows".
[freaking the fuck out]
Dude, calm yourself.

Zapheod originally misunderstood you, but it's not anyone else's fault you didn't make yourself remotely clear in your response. Zapheod said they can handle more than 32000 lines, and you said "WRONG!". But Amarantha pointed out that it's true: they *can* handle more than 32000 lines. So Zapheod was not "WRONG!" in that sentence.

If you see that someone has misunderstood you, perhaps you could clear things up more easily by saying something like, "No, I don't care about lines, I need more than 32k data points," in the first place. Then you could save yourself the immense amount of stress and freaking out this exchange has apparently cost you.
Unless stated otherwise, I do not care whether a statement, by itself, constitutes a persuasive political argument. I care whether it's true.

Take this evidence directly to the police; don't bother going to school staff. If you're lucky, you can get those bastards thrown in jail, and perhaps you can even drag some school staff down with it for failing to ensure the safety of their students.

I hope that works, because you bet your ass I'm going for it.

Yeah... I didn't notice that Zapheod wrote lines... Actually, the stress came from the project (or lack thereof really), and I was just venting a little. Because screaming IRL tends to turn some heads.
