So, Euler. How are you supposed to say his name? My maths teacher says "oil-er" but says some people say it "you-ler" which is what I said it when I first read it. Is there a right one?

I seem to remember on the show tommorows world in england (as tv show that presents new technology etc) and they were discussing the gps implants in dogs, etc and ones that were attatched to school-kids bags. They all worked suprisingly effectively (they were'nt very accurate chips at the time, but the concept was to know generally where they were.

I have a random philosophical insight to share with whoever cares. It concerns the mystery of time.

This part is paraphrased from some animation I saw about the eleven dimensions needed for string theory. Imagine you have a two-dimensional world inhabited by like creatures. They're pretty happy. Then all of a sudden, a human walks through their world because he can't perceive it. What do the creatures see? Answer: Something like a progressive cross-section of the innards. It would be pretty freaky.

Now, think of the same scenario another way. There's a three-dimensional world with inhabitants. Now a four-dimensional object passes through their world. They can see but a three-dimensional cross-section of it. This is what is happening in our universe. Our universe is three dimensional, and has a four-dimensional object passing through it - time. This is why time only goes forward and never back. In the real definition of a dimension, it should be at least possible to go backwards for a truly fourth-dimensional being, being that an axis extends both ways from the origin. Yet we can't. We're facing towards the origin and walking backwards away from it, unable to change our speed or direction. Once this object finishes passing through our universe, time will end and we will be 'stuck' where we are without any time to progress us until another object of similar nature passes through. Though considering I have yet another half-baked theory that the fourth-dimensional object hitting our universe was what started the big bang, this may be fallacious.

If they universe were four-dimensional (and you were too) then you'd see every object in every location it ever would and ever had occupied. The sun would form a trail around the galaxy, the planets would be toroidal shapes that slowly progressed with the sun, the galaxies would streak out from what was the centre of the universe and closer to that point their images would disperse into dust and gas until where it all started, the centre of the universe, was a great starburst of light and energy. It would all be quite beautiful, but incredibly chaotic.

My friend and I are making a Cd for Chem. extra credit. The songs have to have the band, name of song, or something in the lyrics that mention an element. We're still trying to by the Elements Periodic table song thing off itunes..but dang, we're running out of ideas. Too bad we can't get a hold of some rap..they always mention gold...

What was that Simpsons episode where Lisa walks into some back room at the aquarium, and all the penguins are flying around, and when they see her they just land and start shifting their eyes? I can't remember the rest of it.
