One of my friends had his door removed. It's been something like fours years since it's been gone, but I still don't know why.

I once had my door threatened to be taken away. The reason? Because I was deemed mentally unstable.

Causing me mental distress is a wonderful way to cure nervous breakdowns, apparently.

Well. It's just a door. How was that mental distress?

Also, why would they remove a door? What could that possibly help?

So they can watch what you're doing / make sure you don't do anything 'bad'.

And it would be stressful because it's (a) a massive invasion of privacy and (b) basically saying that the people taking your door away (presumably parents) don't trust you.

You presume their primary goal was "help"ing.

I have a door, but it doesn't really matter, since my parents tell me literally every ten minutes to leave the door open, and my younger sister always bothers me anyway, no matter how often I tell her to stay away.

I need to buy a lock.

Removing the door was in response to a specific panic attack I had, when I cracked because a family member wanted to borrow something of mine. My parents thought I was being greedy and that removing any privacy I had would remedy the situation. Either that or it was because they felt like they didn't know me. Or something.

It might not be distressing to you, but removing my door would completely cripple me. To me, every object has a contageous "aura." Everything I own has a certain aura. If I were to lend someone an object of mine, their aura would spread onto the object. Every aura is different- some are good, some are bad. I can't use anything that has a bad aura, which means that anything I lend I can't take back. Even the air has an aura, which would be contaminated if my door were removed. Suddenly, the aura is gone and replaced with something foreign. I can feel it like I can feel the temperature. My room, the only safe place I have in the world, would become unusable.

Well, if you have a boyfriend / girlfriend you could be having illicit sexytimes.

If you're suffering from some form of mental illness you could be self-harming (god, I hate that word), breaking shit, sulking, crying, etc.

If you're a generic teenage fuckup you could be drinking / smoking / doing drugs.

You've gotta assume the parents taking the door away are either uptight moral / religious conservatives who are terrified of their child disgracing them in the eyes of the community or they're white-trash who don't know how to deal with problems other than using blunt force.

Yeah. While your parents are home.

Which is a valid concern.

Most of those would be foiled by any kind of working smoke detector. Or, you know, wondering why your son just shouted about raptors eating the gnomes in his closet, which I'm sure raptors are wont to do.

You've gotta assume the parents taking the door away are either uptight moral / religious conservatives who are terrified of their child disgracing them in the eyes of the community or they're white-trash who don't know how to deal with problems other than using blunt force.

Or, you know, worried about their kids. Maybe they don't know how else to react, to keep their kids from doing dangerous/illegal things. I don't have to assume anything like what you described.

It's alright, I was only teasing. You don't need a crochet hook just yet.

That's awesome. Have you done your first row yet? My friend taught her boyfriend to knit and he'd cheer every time he finished a row. Cutest thing ever.

I don't think there are any grammatical rules for emoticons. They're too recent an invention.

Imagine if you could just get a DNA sample of someone (strand of hair, etc), put it in your computer, and render a model of the person? That'd be so cool, yet so freaky. I wonder how much processing power would be necessary to do something like that. You could potentially see what you'd look like at a later age.
(Of course I'm not accounting for all the other factors that go into one's appearance. <_<)

Did you try to explain this to your parents? If my child (wow, I don't have one, but IF my child) said this to me, I'd want to know all about it, ask you details and stuff, but if he/she didn't want to talk about it, that'd be fine. I would just try accept it, and help them as best as I could.
But I don't know how your parents are... but my advice still stands: tell them.

I was thinking about The Universe on the walk home from the train station, and I figured that if you could somehow stand outside the Universe, it would be a mirror. I figure that, what with thermodynamics in play, the universe couldn't glow - no energy can leave the system. And it couldn't be black - no energy can be absorbed by it. Therefore it'd be an unbreakable, cold mirror, reflecting all energy sent at it.

Just thinkin'....
