In a fit of procrastination, I scientifically determined (by looking at post counts in Individual Comics) that "Friends" is Randy's most discussed webcomic evar. But "How it Works" was close second. I'm sure the significance is profound.

In the end of last week I saw a butterfly in the stairway of the building where my workplace is. It flapped madly against the windows. The frequency of the flaps is surprisingly high. I thought that if the windows weren't so high from the floor level (it's the bigger space in the highest floor, where there's no steps going up anymore) I could have caught it and take it out. Today I saw it again, it was sitting on the frame of a window a couple floors down from the place I saw it last time. It was pretty apathetic and only started flapping when I touched it, but landed really soon. I carefully took it into my hands so that it wouldn't fly away and went outside. There I took my other hand away from top of it, but it just sat on my finger. I thought that I should take it to a park on my way home.

It felt odd to have that insect on my hand, because usually butterflies fly away when you approach them. This one didn't do anything. There was slight wind, and I held my other hand in front of it, so that it wouldn't drop or break apart. It looked really fragile. The red-brownish hair it had on its back looked really beautiful when the wind moved it, almost shiny.

In the park I put it on a flower. It didn't do much, just stood there still after flapping a little bit to get into balance. I think it will die pretty soon anyway even if its chances of survival for slightly longer might be better outside. It probably helped me more than I helped it.

I feel lost in a grocery store. It's like this magical place where food comes from, but I have absolutely no idea what that entails. All I can conjure up if I think about it is "ground beef is good? that makes burgers and hamburger helper and tacos" and all that makes me think of is "I'm doing it wrong". I think I failed my enter adulthood check somewhere and nobody noticed.

So I basically wandered around for half an hour or so and just bought pop, milk, junk food, and tuna (because tuna salad is delicious).

hehe! I have trouble with meal planning myself. I tend to get mostly canned ravioli, frozen dinners, and tuna fish sandwiches... which are all delicious of course, but simple. I just feel the same as you. My bf goes about grocery shopping in a very different, holistic manner, so I just follow him when he's getting dinner materials.

Yeah pesc is the way to go if you really like fish. My sister started out pescatarian because, in her words, fish are stupid. She's a moral vegetarian and stayed pesc for a long time.

She did eventually transition to veggies only+dairy, because of dolphins getting caught in tuna fishing nets (I think). And dolphins aren't stupid. I dunno. Anyway, consider pescetarianism! It's a good way to keep your protein intake at a healthy level without supplementing.

(I hope it doesn't come off as if I am telling you how to live your life. But if you really really like fish after going without them for a while, considering a diet modification could increase your happiness!)

Well, how many people are you shopping for? Just you?

I ask because it's notoriously difficult to cook for one person. Oh, it can be done, sure. And there's lots of things you can do. It's just easier to cook for two or four people. You can buy a pound of ground meat, no problem. Buying a pound and dividing that up into half or quarter chunks then freezing the excess until you need it is... kinda annoying. And crap that you have to cut up.. onions, for example.. it's rare to find a dish for one person that requires a whole onion that isn't "roasted onion stuffed with onion and an onion garnish with onion dip" and it's a pain to save them.

So that may be part of the problem, if you're shopping for one.
