Thought: There is a type of air freshener with 'Stale Museum" smell. Every single one I go to has that same sanitized smell that resembles cardboard baked into a bar of soap.

How come when it's a Sunday and all I want to do is lie in bed and maybe watch some films and relax a bit I can work on an online maths assignment for the best part of 4 hours and never get more than about 10% yet as soon as I have a couple of hours to kill before I can start my style studies assignment (my friend has the sheet and she's dropping it off later) when I'm feeling productive I can get 40% (the minimum pass mark and the mark that says it's time for me to stop) in less than 15 minutes. How does that work?

Not that I'm complaining. It means I get to use the time to do things like browse the fora and check facebook in the music building's microlab.

Also today is Self Injury Awareness Day.

And that's part two of my amazing awareness raising for the day done (those of you who have me added on facebook will have seen part 1, it was just as amazing as part 2).

Did you injure it yourself? I imagine that would be fairly easy to do with pincers.
Please note that despite the lovely avatar Sungura gave me, I am not a medical doctor.

Ok, we're going to do a couple of tries of Robot Unicorn Attack, and then we'll settles down to report work. Stop procrastinating, the dishwasher can be emptied some other time and the hoovering did not need to be done!

Edit: 39094, I can live with that as a highscore for now.

My wife's boss has a number of those and gives them out when people mess something up. I think my wife earned the plague not long ago. Then he gave her e. coli so that she could pass it along to anyone that displeased her. But she said she thinks it's too cute and probably won't actually give it to anyone. Hehe

I need to figure out the best way to ship a 6 pack of beer to Colorado(well 5 pack now). I don't want to ship it in a huge box that costs lots, but broken beer bottles kinda ruins the gift.

Spoiler:
This started as a fleeting thought, but if it gets wings then I’ll be happy to move it to a thread of its own out of everyone’s way. In real life (i.e. not on the fora) I’ve been vaguely toying with the idea of taking a short counselling course. My wife is a trained counsellor and I’m aware that, if I bumped into someone who was depressed or upset to the point of desperate, I’m not as informed as my wife and I might say something well intentioned but out of place and make things worse. It’s up there with my recurrent intention to take a proper first aid course, for similar reasons.

Now, to come to the point (eventually), is there an equivalent for communicating on web fora? There are a lot of people on here, sharing their thoughts and feelings, and sooner or later you will bump into a cry for help. My wife’s counselling training is based on face-to-face verbal communication and wouldn’t really work on-line. Does anyone know if there is training for on-line counselling? For that matter, are the moderators already trained in this? If not, should we have a small team trained and prepared to respond if someone posts who is in genuine emotional trouble and needs help?

If this is a stupid idea (or already dealt with) than I’ll happily get back in my box. If not then I’d be prepared to look into it further if we think it’s worthwhile.

This is a great idea. (It also has the advantage of meaning that if I did something of this nature, I could change my signature to 'qualified armchair psychology'.

I third this idea. It sounds sensible.

OK, here's my plan. My wife is looking through the UK NHS, and I have a friend who works for the samaritans who will enquire there. If I get a chance I'll also do some on-line research. I'll let you know here when I find something and then anyone who wants details can PM me. If we find something half-way decent I guess when can let the moderators know who has been trained. Any other suggestions?
