It's a tiny, tiny conference -- Machine Translation Marathon 2010. It's in Dublin at the end of January.

Eh. In my opinion, prom was overrated, overpriced, and not actually all that fun. It would be if you are the type of person that will take 100 pictures with all your friends and whatnot, but that was the only appeal I saw in it. It wasn't the last time I saw anyone that I actually cared about, so there was no big sappy moment or anything like that for me. Don't get me wrong, it was fun, but not THAT fun.

After prom, on the other hand, was waaaaay more fun, and including tux rental and everything, was a tiny fraction of the price of Prom itself. Mine was school sponsored, but it was still tons of fun and I would at least recommend going to that if your school offers it.

My prom was fun. I didn't like to dance in high school, but at prom, I decided not to care if people were watching me dance or not, and to enjoy the company. It turned out to be fun. But if you don't need to find an excuse to be social, maybe that argument doesn't work for you.

I had great fun at my 5th and 6th year dance. The food was mediocre, some said rubbish. The ceilidh part was tremendous fun and I had fun dancing goofily in the normal dancing. The after party was good as well, apart from a friend throwing up heartily on my stairs in front of me and my speakers getting drink poured on them accidentally by the same friend. Home-made cider + lightweights = bad.

Although, I can't think of a party where my cider was, that someone didn't throw up....

And now, back to musical acoustics revision.

I'm the sort of girl that's in all the "nerdy" educational clubs. My wardrobe is all jeans and tees. My shoe collection consists of ratty Chucks and other ratty shoes. I don't know anything about fashion or hair. My hair's blue. I'm a freshman dating a senior is all.

@Teapot: I'm pretty sure I've made up for that in many drinks since then! Also, your drink guard sucked - she never once said "Hey, don't take that! Teapot's drinking that!".

Again, I am sorry for stealing it - I assumed it was an unattended drink and so, chucked it. I offer you another drink, of greater value, which i can take down with me at some point!

Today we conducted a survey for the school newspaper which consisted of asking students whether they were addicted to caffeine.

Damn it, I'm not used to actually having to do stuff. This is not how I roll at all.

I generally succeed in stuff through bizarre twists of fate, not through honest hard work.

In a mad dash to get hand-in exercises ready by the deadline tomorrow, I've spent like 12 hours consecutively studying in front of my computer. I managed to rack up almost 40 firefox tabs. And not 7 facebook tabs, 5 google tabs and the rest forum tabs. All but 3 or 4 were to reference material. This is some sort of new personal record. Tomorrow I'll have to repeat the feat, only producing a 15 minute presentation on a subject I thoroughly don't know diddly squat about for Friday. On Friday afternoon, it will all be over, and I will rest. And it will be good.
I edit my posts a lot and sometimes the words wrong order words appear in sentences get messed up.

For homework, among other things, I have to write a speech in the point of view of an influential character in the time of WWI and I chose Billy Sunday.

I just wonder whether it would be more fun to write a speech set when he backed the war or not. I can gather quotes, scripture, and other information for either argument so it just depends on which would be more fun. A fervently evangelical hippy speaker or a fervently evangelical and warmongering speaker.

Any opinions?

My poetry professor called me a virtuoso today. She called my technique "brilliant" and "extraordinary for an undergrad student." And then she compared me to Edgar Allen Poe. And she meant it all as an insult.
Normally I wouldn't know how to feel about this, but because a) this woman should probably not be teaching or coming into contact with people and b) I like Edgar Allen Poe, her "insult" is probably the highest compliment she could give me.

I don't understand how any of those things could be taken as an insult. Unless she has some ridiculous sarcasm skills.

And I mean Ridiculous sarcasm skills. She'd have to be the Stephen Hawking of Sarcasm.

No sarcasm there, she was dead serious. She said I have no feeling or passion for my subject and that I'm all about the technique. Which is true. Which is why I'm a computer science major and not a writing major.

I don't know. This is going to sound really stupid, but I think that reading this site has given me a bit of an insight on the way I need to approach this. I'm still a bit unsure on how to do this but I think that I've gotten the hang of this. It's actually going to be really enjoyable for me.

I just hope that my teacher doesn't get too bothered by the whole tone of it. I mean, this is Billy Sunday -- he's an inspiration for tons of current evangelicals and trying to emulate his tone faithfully forces me to put more references to morality and scripture than I'mbe comfortable with. I hope she sees this as me playing the part of him and not supporting or promoting his viewpoints.

[ I really hope I can pull this off. I'm actually kinda nervous about it. I'll try posting it on the fora after I turn it in and see if people can rip it apart. Or something. ]

No it wasn't. The town was built on the site of the battle and was named Battle because a battle had been fought there. That's why it's the Battle of Hastings, and not the Battle of Battle.

FT: Battle is one of those words where if you say it enough times, it just sounds like funny noises and loses all meaning. Cool. Battle.
