Plotting complex functions

Plotting complex functions

I would like to do a y vs x plot of the above equation. Also I want to study the behaviour of the graph by keeping 'n' constant and varying ξ. Suggest me a software in which this can be done with ease. Also it would be helpful if I get a link to some tutorial about how to do it.

Matlab would be an obvious choice. There is an open source version of it called Octave. If you plan to make a habit of this kind of analysis, I highly recommend learning how to use it.

If you aren't interested in learning a new language, Excel could handle this. Google "Numerical integration in Excel" to see how you can implement the equation.

for MatLab like numeric sw I like - not as MatLab compatible as the Octave - but appears to have much more support, active development, nice GUI... ( low level syntax is Matlab compatible, has a m-file translator)

symbolic CAS is what I really want - but the free world is not so developed as Maple, Mathematica

free: XCAS, Geogebra use the Giac CAS code, Sage Math tries to collect, wrap every free math code in python
