Disagreed, I hate dealing with the 0 Meridian, as we need to check it exactly if it's close to it. I think a better question is:

Are you in zone 1 as divided by the red line on this map?

Gotta leave Antartica firmly in the 1st half, there's a lot of street view images there. And, as we saw with you, the 0 meridian is quite useful for someone in the UK or Spain.

Anyways, agree with Vytron

Also, Vytron, you should probably edit the OP linking to the start of Brenok's game, and maybe put your image inside the spoiler to avoid confusion.

I'm not sure about that. Sure, when you got me circled down to the British Isles, you had the part on the east hemisphere chopped off, but there's probably a better way to split off the British Isles anyway, so that if you started with a zone 1/zone 2 image like this, you could have saved one question (west/east hemisphere) used to split the British Isles better (chopping off half of it instead of chopping off the east meridian and Ireland - THOUGH, doing as you did and asking "Are you in Chile OR this half of The British Isles" instead of Ireland would have been even better, hmmm.)

Otherwise, it'd mean it'd be better to include the entire British Isles on zone 1, or at least, make the red line I drew to split them in half (instead of the uneven way the prime meridian splits them), but it's probably overkill, because, I think y'all split the remainder of the map about optimally, and that's much more important than the starting questions, which could get us a better zone by luck anyway (say, splitting it in 3, and hitting the right part on 1 question, gets us rid of 2/3 of the map.)

Why not just ask "are you in Australia"? So much simpler than all these maps and lines.

Because it means I can ask questions without knowing geography* :) Also, it paves the way for future questions like this:

Are you west of the red line?

I would argue that geography is way easier than cartography, but whatevs. I guess I just prefer the simplicity of a lack of whirligigs and etc.

The islands are New Zealand, Japan, and that one city in Indonesia, leaving a few spots in mainland Southeast Asia as well as South Africa. The main problem,as far as I can tell, is that there are really three zones of about equal size, the three large-ish nations with street view on that map, so splitting them evenly into two parts is kind of difficult

While I'd love to roll the dice, Japan is simply too dense to waste questions.

I'll third the "section one" question.

Surely there's no point in numbering areas of the map when it's so conveniently color coded? Gah, I suppose there's also no point in arguing the semantics of the questions we ask.
Anyways, thirded

"Yes," what?! You can't just leave me hanging with a comma like that, man! I need to know the second clause of that sentence!

By which, of course, I mean are you in either Kyoto or Osaka?

EDIT (ninja'd): oh damn, I didn't even think of Okinawa, though I suppose it is technically within the red lines of section zero on that map. This is why we should stick to region names and map colors in the first place, people!
I vote we ask Brenok to clarify whether his interpretation of that question included Okinawa or not before we proceed.
