Re: Skyfall

This was a proper good Bond. Without spoiling, I felt it managed to keep the modernisation of the series intact while finally bringing back some of the classic cheesiness of the old run. Quite long, but really enjoyed it. Also, Javier Bardem has a weird face.

But that's what the defence is, it's not "This work is a great literary art" because the work isn't one and was never intended to be. It's that people rip into it for not being that when they've never made a fuss about the reams of porn intended for males that exhibits no signs of outstand...

Re: Stat anomaly points to country-wide election fraud

Even if this study does turn out to be hogwash, it does raise the question of why we don't do some quality assurance type stuff for the voting machines. A random algorithm could be made that randomly chooses some precincts around the country to have machines audited by hand checking. The census had...

Re: By whom would you like to be written?

If my current life were written by an author I would like it written by Chuck Palahniuk (he wrote Fight Club the novel on which the movie of the same name was based). If I could pick any other setting/life I'd want Stephen King to write me as a character in the Dark Tower series. You don't want Chu...

Guerilla warfare and terrorism generally don't actually *win* you wars. You just hope it lasts long enough for the invading army to go home. Unfortunately in this case, the army would be AT home, with little to no supply chains compared to fighting in a foreign country.

Creating homemade guns? That's definitely against the law, in both the US and the UK. Gun manufacturing/sale is controlled and licensed for a reason. Guns do not make you safer, they just make you more likely to murder someone and I can't see much of a benefit in that. I've never understood the &quo...

The interesting thing is statistics show that the state of the economy isn't as important as the direction it's going, and so the fact that it's shitty, but getting better supports the incumbent way more than the challenger.
