Re: What themes dominate the bulk of your dreams?

Amsterdam, for some reason, is a long running motive in my dreams. Whenever I'm dreaming I'm there, the dreams are incredibly vivid, visually detailed and complex, sometimes even lucid or bordering on lucid. I've only been there once for like a week, but I think you get the picture of what that week...

Re: Network theme

Not home network, but an office I once worked in had a Sushi theme - the network was Sushi, 2 main gateways were Sashimi and Nigiri, and there were Maki, Onagi and more that I can't remember. Needless to say I was very very hungry the whole time. Another office I saw had a solar system bodies theme,...

Re: Radiothread

First listen: sounds like a Thom Yorke album. It's a good thing. The electronica elements are more beat-music, especially Lotus Flower - made me think of Amon Tobin. Composing is more abstract and scattered than usual, needs much more attention to really get into. Lotus Flower and Codex are the high...

Re: The Smoke Pit - Military Q/A

The reason most soldiers don't go is because they are afraid of getting kicked out of the military. I served 3 years in the IDF, and seen more people fight really hard to get to the shrink BECAUSE THEY WANT TO get kicked out of the military. Or at least be repositioned to somewhere where they'll ge...

More smoke alarms need a "this is a false alarm, shut up now" button... maybe even a preemptive "I'm about to cook something smoky, shut down for the next hour or so (but automatically reactivate after that time)". Engineers? Get cracking. I need this shiz by the end of the day....

It's true that the images themselves may not be that upsetting, but the messages they convey sure flipped my switches. The visit to the girl's parents, the factory scene, the baby.. It puts the spotlight on distressing things in life very effectively, at least for me.

although in this case, the word kimono is commonly used in English, so I'd be happy to call it an English word of Japanese origin anyway. That's interesting. Also, calling this a "List_of_English_words_of_Japanese_origin" is assuming that words like kimono or dashi are English words, and they're not. If they were, it would mean that every word in every language immediately becomes an English word if you only spell it out in English.
