Re: Summer 2013 Laptop / Desktop / Tablet speculation thread

The Surface RT is a confusing mistake that Microsoft has made. Wat, how? I felt the Surface pro was a weird hodgepodge of too expensive and too useless for my tastes. I don't want something that can run Crysis on a tablet, I want a tablet that runs Windows and can do basic stuff. The Surface Pro se...

Does anyone have recommendations for a management sim type of game? The sort where you run a company or sports team or something? Either free or fairly cheap would be nice, too.

It could come up as a daily/flash/community choice sale - I think it's been 66% off already, so I'd hold out for that happening again, and buy on the last day of the sale if it doesn't.

Apart from all the other problems usualy associated with chain restaurants, I don't believe that either of these can be had at a subway, so I see no reason to even enter a subway. Here, subway has an odd monopoly on small town fast food. If you're on a road trip, small towns will almost always have...

That's how ameretrifle and I approached season 6 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I suppose there could be some kind of mechanical reason, as higher output CFLs tend to be noticeably larger than their incandescent counterparts. However, I'm inclined to think it's just a case of a warning writer needing to brush up on their physics.

Most powerful in what sense? And where do you draw the line on "laptop"? Clevo makes a chassis (the PS570WM) that will take an LGA 2011 CPU, a pair of GTX780Ms, 3 hard drives, and an optical drive, though calling that machine a "laptop" or "portable" is a bit of a stret...

On the other hand, it's quite hard not to notice a giant veichle going in your direction a kilometer in advance. You have maybe 20 seconds to react to a fast train at that distance. Also, a visibility of 1km seems very optimistic. Visibility can be more like 100m: in that case, good luck reacting f...

There's also the curious fact that AMD's CPUs around the original i-series launch were the X2, X4, and X6 - one less than 3, 5, and 7, respectively. AMD's newer CPUs since are the A4/6/8(and eventually 2 and 10) and FX-4/6/8 lines. Purely coincidence, I am sure.

Pretty much. There are verses in the bible saying Christ died for all men. Francis came out with an iteration of that, and people who don't actually know what's in the book got mad. If the next generation CPU upgrade needs a video card to match it, nVidia's 700 series is starting to appear as well. Have you considered using a cheaper off-contract smartphone? The dedicated mp3 player market has been pretty much eviscerated by smart phones. A $100-150 smartphone and a 32GB microSDHC card would be more than adequate for mp3/video playback, and is going to have a lot more choices available.

Yeah, I think towers are at least somewhat directional, in the sense that they probably get the best transmission and reception at and below horizontal. What's the effective distance on one of those, anyway? GSM has a hard limit at 120km, because that's as far as it can adjust propagation delay for...
