Eight source blocks in the corners where the pressure plates can contain the flow is the best method of turning it off for maintenance. I never bothered making that system automatic, however.

I think we should look into mods when we think we've exhausted the fun possibilities of things to make in vanilla. I see all this talk about various mob farming systems and the like, and I think we should keep doing those for a while. But I'm not opposed to mods.

Molten's definitely the top before hardmode. But be warned, the common monsters in hard mode have at least 200 health, and hit upwards of 50 damage even with new armor.

The problem with the crusher is that somewhere inside, the blazes are getting hurt. and the crusher kills more than half what's been collected.
