Re: Doctor Whom

Considering one of the recent problems has been having too much plot to fit into the episode time, I'm not sure why people are complaining this episode was draggy. The extra time and the more relaxed pace were welcome I thought.

Re: Star Wars: Episode 7

Lets take a deep breath, remember it's just a show, and cross our fingers and hope that we still get some enjoyment out of some additions to an old favorite. Hollywood has been getting slightly better at telling well-crafted stories. Its not just a show, its culture. Its ideas, hope and inspiration...

Re: The Wind Rises (and other Ghibli films?)

I liked The Wind Rises (especially the dream sequences, the earthquake bit and the rather moving ending) and it is of course stunning to look at, but I did feel the fact it's much more grounded in reality than most Miyazaki films meant it lacked the magic of a Totoro or Spirited Away. Here's my pers...

Re: Israel/Palestine discussion

How dare people vote for someone else! How dare people say that to convince people to not vote A, you must stop X and do Y, when doing Y made them vote A in the first place. You see the number of people dying at the moment? That's clearly not all Hamas' fault. It's clearly not all Israel's fault ei...

Great editorial from Haaretz on this topic: Israel’s best weapon against Hamas: Giving the Palestinians hope . Finally some common sense. The author has a short memory. Israel DID all of those things. They pulled out of Gaza entirely, removed every soldier, settler and Jew. With no blockade. Gave i...

Re: Israel/Palestine discussion

Of course not, that wasn't the point I was making at all, and you know it. One side is doing everything to protect its civilians, the other is doing everything to raise its casualties. Death toll is a stupid measure of morality. I like how you insist that Israel isn't responsible at all for all the...

Re: Israel/Palestine discussion

Do we judge morality by death rate now? Er, don't we always? I mean, a serial murder who kills 30 people is judged much more harshly than a murderer that kills one. The morality of an action is intimately linked to the amount of suffering it causes or is likely to cause. Ten times as many Germans d...

Re: Actual (Association) Football Talk.

And Messi got the golden ball (for best player)? Seriously? The guy was almost completely invisible this entire tournament. He scored like 1 important goal, yeah, but both the semi final and the final were huge no-shows for him. Sure he's the best player in the world, but this particular tournament...

Re: Actual (Association) Football Talk.

Seems to me Colombia got screwed royally by the referee. That second goal should not have been a free kick, and their goal just before that was not offsite. I thought Brazil deserved the win overall. This is starting to feel like 2006 all over again. Great group stage, boring knockout stage. Only one first half goal since Brazil v Chile! I really hope Belgium v USA doesn't live up to my expectations of a dull 1-0 Belgium win/0-0 draw and penalties.
