Re: What is your favourite book?

I'd like to make some very unoriginal choices (I can't choose just one):

The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger
The Secret History by Donna Tartt
Catch 22 by Joseph Heller

Re: Musicals / Showtunes

I love West Side Story, which has ace after ace up its sleeves with its songs and music. America is fantastic. And a lot of its themes about the tension between communities are still relevant today.

Re: Misheard Lyrics

For years I struggled with the chorus of The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite by R.E.M., which goes "Call me when you try to wake her". I had always thought it was something like "Calling Jamaica".

Re: My Bloody Valentine

Isn't Anything and Loveless - two excellent albums. I don't think Loveless is The Most Amazing Thing Ever but it does sound gorgeous, and it's certainly one of the best final albums made by any act. I Only Said is a real favourite of mine on the album. I really liked it when FFVII references Loveles...

Re: Hip-Hop and Rap

I like Stankonia and Speakerboxxx/The Love Below by Outkast, both great albums. I recently got 3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul and really enjoy that too. Madvillainy by Madvillain is another good album from more recent years.

Re: Post-Rock

I would say that Godspeed You! Black Emperor are one of my favourite bands, they were brilliant and have three excellent albums and the Slow Riot EP. Definitely one of the best examples of 'post-rock'. My favourite album of theirs is Lift Your Skinny Fists... though the final ten minutes of Yanqui U...

Re: Favorite non-English films

Chungking Express is one of my all-time favourites, and has the world's best chat-up line to boot. After Life is another real favourite, a Japanese film about those who have recently died choosing to take a memory from their lives with them as they pass on to whatever follows death. Hugely moving an...

Re: Final Fantasy series.... favorites?

I do love most of the FF games I've played to some extent, but my favourite is FFVIII, just edging out FFIX (the latter being the first in the series I ever played). I know that VIII is the Marmite game of the series (people seem to either love it or hate it) but I remember falling in love with it t...
