Yet you can't do the same with 1/(n+1), you can't say lim_{n->-1}C_{1}-1/(n+1) = lim_{n->-1}C_{2}, as this is what they are trying to say.

What they're saying is that we should pull a 1/(n+1) term out of one of the constants-wrt-x. I.e. split C 1 into C 3 -1/(n+1) (and then see that C 3 happens to equal C 2 ). If you wish to add -1/(n+1) inside the limit, then you also need to subtract it inside the limit.
