Re: 14- and 15-year-olds charged as adults for sexual assault

The average criminal, if I recall from some program, costs the state ~24k to keep locked in prison per year in NY. Quite a lot of money to keep them locked up. I'm not sure it's enough to satisfy Dr. I'm-gonna-charge-you-300-bucks-for-a-consult-and-be-done-with-you-in-less-than-five-minutes. Much l...

14- and 15-year-olds charged as adults for sexual assault

Article here.

The things these kids are purported to have done are absolutely horrible, and yet I'm still conflicted about charging them as adults -- they're set to up be sentenced to up to 120 years each, if convicted on all counts.

Kung Fu: The Legend Doesn't Continue for Carradine

David Carradine apparently committed suicide in his Bangkok hotel room . Shitty -- he was among my favorite Hollywood figures. A family nearly always expresses shock at the suicide of its loved ones, but I'm wondering if he has a history of depression, etc, or if this was brought about by something...

I read a CNN article quoting some airline expert as stating that most modern planes are designed to withstand direct strikes, which makes lightning an unlikely cause for the crash.

I could see that being true in a court if the person knew or had good reason to suspect that he/she (he, in this case) had been exposed to HIV, and continued to have unprotected sex regardless of that knowledge.

Anyway, Im really glad this is considered a crime. I dunno. If it hangs on whether or not you know your status, this sort of law creates a perverse incentive not to get tested. On the other hand, the chief reason it's good for society for people to get tested in the first place is that they won't u...
